  • Excellent video... I have to paint a drawing (I'm not very good at painting) and I'd like to do it in your way, but I have so many questions for you that I don't know where I could begin from ;-)

For example, what kind of brushes do you use? Which settings for brushes and layers? Is there a standard for choosing colors? Common questions, I know, but I'm a beginner...

    Thanks anyway

  • Your works are brilliant! I need to ask you few questions: 1. Which software do you usually use (e.g Ps CS5 or sketchbook (Pro or Designer) or Corel Painting etc)?

    2. With the brush sets I can see, you use Ps....so, do you work in different layers?

    3. Do you use mouse or a tablet (e,g. Wacom tablet)?

    4. If Wacom tablet then which model?

...Actually I also started giving importance on digital art. I want to learn that. I don't have any tablet.

    Thanks.

  • very nice

  • Lmao, I also like what you said about getting better and better as you practice. It reminded me of how I felt after my figure drawing class. We drew the same woman over and over the whole semester and I always asked myself why. Why aren't we drawing men, too? Why is it always the same woman? At the end of the semester, I realized how much repeatedly drawing this lady had really helped. I actually felt like I had been programmed. Brainwashed...into improving.

  • I like how you talk as you work. It lets me know exactly what you're doing when you do it. It makes learning so much easier.

  • Do you do it all on one layer?

  • very good ........

  • is it me, or her left shoulder is too low...?

  • By the way ur web page is hacked, Gina fix that?

  • Awesome, which app have u used to for this digital painting?

  • Thats excelent :O) im an artist but cant seem to find an interest lately, ive just bought a wotcom and now im looking for the most important thing like this kind of stuff for inspiration to get me started,

  • I'd really like to know if you are using smudging. Until now i have been using smudge to apply value/dynamics to the painting to create more depth,

  • When i paint with photoshop my lines get so undynamic... How do you get so much structure in that? What shortcut do you use for the "pipette"-tool? How many pen-tools do you use for that? I have a wacom bamboo fun and I like it but I want to get the hang of it :)

  • You are so much better than the other guy who also has the "I draw girls" tutorials.

  • @nonnikonian I don't know who that is, but thanks.

  • @nonnikonian you mean ipaintgirls ?

  • um what is the link to download the software so i can paint this stuff >.> hehe pl tell me

  • @sparten201 You can use Photoshop which I used it at work or Gimp which is free and very similar.

  • @sparten201 there is also krita and mypaint those are very good and free

  • When I was in the 7th grade i had an anatamoy book and a victory secret magazine. I ended up drawing Trya Banks naked. So i draw girls too.lol

  • click "like", did you say? Nah i'm gonna fav this

  • @nitrooxide9418 LOL thx

  • The more U draw the better U get~ Eye like that~!@^@!~

  • @knightSublime Just like Kung Fu. ;-)

  • Have you ever use Painter? Do you think it's anygood compare to photoshop for painting?

  • @venuslnd Yes long time ago. Both are just tools, you pick which one suit you best.

  • do you use a mouse? or a pen like mouse to draw? tnx

  • @donhoren What is a mouse?

  • @donhoren he uses a PEN

  • what exact program are you using ?

  • oh

    Thank you

  • @6Bene No prob.

  • @idrawgirls

Thank you but you did not answer my question.

What to focuse on when u drawing same character and u need it to look same?

  • @6Bene Make a model sheet of a character with full body, different angels and facial expression. And most important of all, draw and draw and draw.

  • How u doeing exact character? Your or others. I mean make them look similar every time [ at least most similar].

What u focusion on and stuffs?

  • do you have a tutorial for like extremely ametuer beginners. XD

  • @Earthspirit91 Go to my blog or my channel.

  • can you tell me please. what type of brush did you use?

  • @AbbayAlexandrov custom, check your inbox.

  • I can draw pretty decently on paper, its just that I am rather messy and press rather hard onto my paper which makes my drawings look messy...from time to time (mostly when I study) I draw much better then I usually do. But whatever the chase... I find it hard to draw with the computer...my friends make it seem to easy...so any advice? lol

  • @Scarx2gt Learn how to paint is my advice. Drawing and painting are two different beasts, but their rules do overlap each other.

  • hi,i'm a cell animator. i can nicely draw on paper bt i cant draw on photoshop.so haw can i practice to be good concept artist.???????

  • @krishanartist Sweet, same thing...draw and paint a lot. I was a 2D animator for Disney Int game division before I became concept artist. Check your pm.

  • You should try doing your commentary on your tutorials as you're drawing them. It'd give you more room to explain things and be able to make the tutorials faster.

  • @DaUnknowna Have you try it?

  • If i'm not talented with drawing , where do i go?

  • @coldmemories1 What talent? all you have to do is to like it. Go to my blog or my channel.

  • @idrawgirls

    i can't draw for shit :p

  • I clicked 'like' because I learnt something, but I would click another one BIG LIKE, if I could, because I like how you draw. I have a few questions and please answer me. I also draw (you can see some of videos on my channel) and I m not pro yet, I just started, anyway the question is: The brushes which you use, do you made a combination of Photoshop brushes, or you downloaded some, I ask you because I use only basic brushes xD and another: Do you use smudge tool, or only brushes? Thank you.

  • @shkey014 Wow, that's going to be long. Check your inbox.

  • are you also working with 3d models?

  • Do you do all of your art with Photoshop and a regular computer mouse, or do you use a graphics tablet? I'm a beginner and wondering if I should also save up for a graphics tablet. Thanks!

  • @JenJW Wacom and Photoshop. I do have a lot of traditional drawing vids also

  • wow ur good :) you got talent :) nice work!!!

  • what do you do to add darker areas, use a black with low opacity??

  • What brushes do you use for each part? Do you use customized brushes? How about the opacity & flow? Do you one opacity/flow for everything? :)

  • WONDERFUL :D I love your works, your videos and your tender voice :D

    THANK YOU

  • very beautiful

  • like the background music ! :D

  • Do you use a photo reference, or a model or does she come from your imagination?

  • Awsome vid! I really like the explanations, direct and clear! (not like other j*rks who talks bullsh*t all the vid v.v) LOVE YOU!

  • Thank you very much for making a very thorough tutorial. This was very helpful and it is truly appreciated!

  • Why do you use Photoshop and not Illustrator?

  • Hello do you use a digital pen ?

    thanks

  • What program are you using?

  • I've been drawing for years, but I've never painted before. I'm just starting out on painting and watching this vid makes me unbsure of myself...I don't know how to start. :(

  • i find it hard to render light and shadow like this, i always end up with rediculous light and shaow. Cheesy and unrealistic and it looks crap, i guess i just have to studie light and shadow more.

  • we see how u do and kinda get a feeling how to do this but.. i have no idea what kinda brush i need to use.. ?

  • make this with mouse... no way... some kind of digital pen... or are you very skilled with the mouse... any way the painting is quite right

  • do you use tablet or your just using mouse?

  • wath you need to paint digitaly sorry my ignorance

  • @914peru all you need is a computer and a program such as photoshop, corel painter, SAI, sketchbook pro:D... whatever you prefer... some people(including me) think it's easier to use a digital tablet (wacom tablets are pretty popular) to draw with rather than using a mouse.

There are two ways. You can either draw your lineart on paper, than scan it and color it in a program or you can draw everything digitally in the program (this option requires a tablet) good luck!

  • you have a very soothing voice

  • um the biggest thing i see wrong is if u used layers u dont say. plz say nxt time u do these when make a layer

  • @darkisato

it looks like its all on one layer

  • @DarksConcepts of course, he said that part you saw probably took about 20 minutes, but it was displayed in about 8.

  • i like the new guy better this guy explain like you already know what hes talking about . like value ??

  • @PS3UP if you look up the definition you will probably find plenty that can explain it, but put simply it's the lighting, darker areas are a darker value and lighter areas are a lighter value. It's a term most artists should already know, so I'm not surprised he doesn't explain it.

  • Thank you soo much! You are too kind for sharing these. :)

I like how respectable you draw the girls too... they're not just "slutty" for cheap hits, etc. Look forward to seeing more of your work. <3

  • Wow, you are very fast at drawing and coloring!

  • Hey I have a question, I see you use some sort of sponge once in a while to blend color regions nicely, is that sponge an eraser with +/- 20% opacity? or does the brush blend the colors automatically? I have troubles with painting my sketch roughly, it seems that I stuck in correcting my sketch endlessly..I guess blending color regions will make the whole process better ^^. I'd appreciate some technical info during your vids, anyways great tutorial :D!

  • @Necromonkeh just use a darker color with the opacity lower to make it lower and the same thing with a lighter color to make ares lighter. i NEVER use the eraser. literally never. i use the dropper to sample the background color and use that with 20%-60% opacity to clean stuff up around the edges. when you say sponge if your talking about how the brush looks different thats because hes using a different brush with the paint tool, not changing the tool itself.

  • @Jhayzhe Photoshop can record the canvas?

  • @SoggyNapkins No. I think they are confused lol

Camstudio is a free screen recording program. Check out my speed paint video if you wanna see what it looks like. There is also Camtasia ans Hypercam 2 but you have to pay for those. Or find them somewhere on the internet for free. Hope that helps .

  • What program do you use to capture your process on your computer? Do you know of any free ones? Great work, very helpful.

  • @SoggyNapkins its photoshop :)

  • pssst...nice tutorial!

P.S: Glad you didn't put the MJ music, didn't much fancy him or his music.

  • good work as allways i wish you would do one of devon aoki i know it would be good thanks

  • That's very beautiful with those quick brush strokes.

FYI: she was dressed in more Renaissance garb...(1500-1700ish)

...not Victorian (1800ish to early 1900s)

Check google....haha....cuz it wont let me post URLs....stupid thing....

lol, srry about being picky! but you know.

    and again great work!

  • thats cool.

  • lol since there is no music i muted the vid and used the music from 1 of my cds lol

  • It looks like Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn in the Tudors! <3

  • Amazing!!!!!!

  • Wow, watching this reminds me of a class I took with Feng. Loose, composition, values...heh don't mind me man.

  • i love your voice......:3

  • amazing..

  • Does somebody knows if there is an option to make the custom brushes rotate in the right angle to fit the direction of line you are drawing? I know you can change the angle manually in the options but it takes way to much time in my opinion, to be able to drwa fluently.

Looking forward to a good answer on my question. ;)

  • @Luflandebrigade31

    in Shape Dynamics:

turn Angle jitter down to 0%

    in Control: select Direction

  • @darkie1973 Thanks a lot! Was asking myself all the time how they are doing it in their videos....

  • Yep! If you're using a wacom tablet, you can purchase a 6D pen. The pen can detect what angle you're drawing with. It's pretty nifty.

  • Hello, you've gotten MUCH better from when I first started watching your videos which was years ago! Great job! I've learned alot!

  • this had been helpful, thankiez very much!

  • How do u blend it? i see u ppaint in some values with gray and white, how do u blend that with the actual colour? please make vid of HOW u use the layer and how u do it exactly and not just talking and only showing us the drawing, FULL screen so whe can LEARN pls :)

  • @kazzauja Pretty sure he paints over it. The colors are transparent a bit, so it still shows through. So when he lays down that he will go over it with a color. Or sometimes a digital painter will put the top gray scale layer on mode Overlay, and then paint under it. Digital painting is layers of color on the same layer, if they are a traditional digital painter.

  • @kazzauja

    (1) put a layer below your sketch

    (2) turn your sketch to multiply

    (3) save the document

    (4) merge all the layers and color pick

  • @kazzauja I agree... full screen with explanation would be usefull

  • @kazzauja overlay layer for color and value

  • @kazzauja or multiply, but overlay is better, use multiply if you do your whole image in value only first.

  • Ill tell you how he does this : 1. he uses a tablet, therefore theres pressure sensitivity 2. he dosen't use 100% opacity so the colour blend by them self. Technique: He does a stroke of a color and a stroke of another colour overlaping the previous. Since its not 100% opacity the overlaping is in between colors. He then uses +alt key to pick the newly formed color and overlaps it again. Rinse and repeat till you have a smooth blend. Also chek out ''How to paint with photoshop'' it will help

  • @kazzauja

This is a rough a process video, learn the actual program before you start bitching.

Better yet, pick up a paint brush and some oils.

  • @collateralus First of all, i know, and i know the program but its for those who don't my friend was complaining bout it so thought i'd post a comment about it, and seem from the thumbs that alot more would like the same thing, and i aint bitching, some people would actully like to get each little detail available to get more out of it besides others who just need rough stuff :) Besides, buy the member ship from the website and you'll get the full length, i would recommend that.

  • @kazzauja blending is done best by using the eyedropper tool to select different colors from your painting. windows shortcut is ctrl+z, not sure about mac but google is your friend. and remember that there is no specific way to do things. try to understand the general idea of what he does (which is what he talks about) as opposed to mimicking his exact process. if you practice and experiment you'll find what works best for you.

    cheers

  • @Malicious2094 as said earlier, i know i found out by practicing and keep trying new stuff, been doing alot better, and learned from his other and newer vids becuase he explains better, pls do notice the 1 year old comment is OLD, but the reason i havent removed it is because others need some more specific details, i got it from buying vids from him, and from that i found the fun way for me to do it, wich is alot different, but thanks that comment wud have done alot more for me back then.

  • @kazzauja yes i realized after it was a year old xD, still left my comment for others though haha

  • @Malicious2094 hehe goodie, and what i ment back then was: How do you add colours to the black and white value, i had alot of troublet with that back then :P

  • @kazzauja oh i see, should have read carefully before writing a paragraph i guess :/

  • @Malicious2094 No worries ^^

  • @kazzauja there is no secret with layers just copy form life \ other art work and if u dont have what it takes (painting every day regardless of motivation) i am 17 and am beeing trained in a game studio so what i am saying is what the "real pro's" tell me, your question is not stupid but even if he made a vid on what you are saying it wont change anything practice does make perfect that is the only secret hope this helps

  • In which way do you use the brushes?

I've seen you're using a lot of low opacity, but do you also work with the flow? That's always something that kind of throws me out of the process, maybe you can help^^

    Thanks ;)

  • check out the hanagumori tut, its amazing

  • what program do ya use?

  • Either it's Corel Painter, or it could be an older version of photoshop.

  • Probably Photoshop.

  • Looks like Photoshop to me.

  • @wonszlol it is photoshop

  • Read the description/tags.

  • nice bit of traditional painting when you convert this to manga and comics it would look great

  • I think it is great ......

  • how do you get the background brown?

  • You select your brown color, get the paint bucket tool, then you fill the background layer brown :D

  • thanks a lot for charing this!! maybe a dumb question... but how do you record it? I've tried to find out how you all do it:)

    Love all you're stuff!

  • I also have the same question ???!!!!

  • you download a program to your computer. One of the most common software is Camtasia Studio.

  • This guy is magician with photoshop

  • you playin DNB in the background there?
