very much in the same manner as Beethoven, Reed produced a body of work that allows for contemplations and self-reflection; both artisans take shape in the body of work they create
Noone dreams of being a doctor or a lawyer or anything, they just dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard. That's the epitaph for the American Dream. It's China's turn now.
New York-the city of dreams and despair. This song depicts the real America for a lot of people. despite all the misery, there is hope in the imagination, I believe Pedro does fly away--in some way or another. Lou Reed is boss.
lou reed could record a double album of acoustic show tune covers and it would be the the greatest double album of acoustic show tune cover ever. incapable of making bad music
Brilliant song... NOTE to fellow fans: switching this video to 480p will produce much better sound quality for cranking loudly! Thanks for posting this great track.
I wish Lou would get back on the smack. He's not awful solo, but the UV is just so far above most of his solo stuff......I mean assuming that Nico isn't singing.
His voice fit's the song. And what i like personal about Lou Reed is that his vocals are, in my opinion, humane. Maybe someday you will notice, like i did.
Listening to this again after so many years I can hear how Lou Reed's venture into perfomance poetry influenced his songwriting and, in my opinion, produced some of the greatest songs of his career. Love this album!
How can ya not like this song, So much fucking truth in it, I came from a place like that and I flew away and kept flying... The Mean Streets of Philadelphia is from where I hail.
Such a memorable paradox created between upbeat gospel music, and perhaps the most tragic lyrics immaginable. One of my favourite songs and albums........can't beat that cover shot either.
I was 16 when I bought this album and it was my first introduction to Lou Reed. After listening to him and Bruce Springsteen, I never looked at music the same way again.

Sorry about your comment, you obviously listened to the song without paying attention to the lyrics.

@iloveferkel it is honest, from the heart poetry. Not a pop song. Not for children. Not for you.
