way to go turn that nice stone into a pile of spawls. find one that fits better instead of wasting bigger ones. and fyi, its easier to trim on a good tree stump, or a stack of block with a good piece of wood on top. and safety glasses are not always needed if you know how to aim your swing.

Get a beer keg, place a 15 by 15 by 6 inch block of timber on it then on top of that place a tough mail sack partly fillrd with sand and tied. Its an excellent and easily moveable banker, also thes and bag holds odd shaped stones steadier. Best of luck from an Irish stonemason!

Should'nt really hit the overhang from its bottom, it will blow out more then u want, always hit it from the top, and maybe get a scotch for some of them darn lumps. But i do feel ur pain!

holy . you need to whack together a table or you won't be walking at 40, two inner tubes filled with sand and the stone wont jump around all over. maybe think about getting some safety glasses. a bolster chisel would save a lot of time and your rock would be 1/2 the size when it was squared
