  • thumbs up if u watch a lot of mma and never really knew the steps to a kimura

  • frank mir vs nogeuira 2 right here

  • @nkthellios shit was gnarly when his shoulder popped

  • BRASIL

  • I went to my second ever mma class on monday and tapped someone out with this. WAR GRACIES

  • nice explanation of the Kimura, especially keeping the back leg extended. For people talking about the Americana, it's also called a Keylock. lots of people leave themselves open for keylocks when mounted, since they don't keep their elbows in.

  • I enjoy watching this but I cant stop thinking about how one could just bit into the person to get out of such a hold, maybe you could break the guys arm while he is biting you then finish him off.

I dislike any type of holds that put their face/mouth near enough to bite. after all we are mammals, our nails and teeth should be used.

  • @nexivdr that's krav maga

  • How can you not like these guys.

  • Rener, you look so young

  • Perfect instruction

  • thaks for share.

  • Where can we get that shirt?

  • Crazy move is crazy. AWESOME!

  • Does Every single Gracie have a first name that starts with the letter "R"? I just think it is very interesting.

  • @kanguesso

yeah in the book blood in the cage, the author talks about the gracie's obsession with Rs in first names

  • I have had a torn rotator cuff with upper and lower laborium, my shoulder tissue was basically destroyed. it is a crippling injury. Doctor at NYU hospital put it all back together. Years ago that would have been it. Please caustion people as to care they must exercise when practicing this move. My injury happened from 40 years of practice and an accident with a 375 pound student doing makikomi and locking arm as we fell. My fault. But I healed thanks to Doctor and PT.

  • nice kimura but its easy to get cought with a triangle choke while you're doing the kimura

  • love these vids!!!!!!!

  • muito bom esse movi. valeu

  • i belivie ryron gracie is better at sparring but rener is prob a little better at teaching, if i would guess :_)

  • yea thats how hughes beat joe riggs. Except his was sligtly modified.

  • beautiful

  • Is 2:06 the vaporizer?

  • wow, i just realized that i called the kimura the americana, and the americana the kimura the entire time i taught the wristlock series yesterday in class.

*sigh* slaps self on forehead multiple times.

  • @luchador1764 SO do lots of people. It's because of the tale of Kimura who performed "Ude Garame" on Helio Gracie. Evidently he didn't, he performed a reverse version!

  • great video

  • Rener is a really good teacher. He mentions all the tiny details and he's a really well spoken guy.

  • Fedor really did pull off a textbook Kimura on Rembelman

  • I think this is the longest ive seen there hair

  • this is called tea bagging

  • @Majorbud Really? When's the last time you had your shoulder dislocated while getting teabagged? Never mind, I forgot who I was talking to, probably just a couple hours ago huh?

  • I have modified the kimura and it's far far more effective then the traditional way shown here

  • yeah he should of said and you take this step over their head like so and thats called tea bagging, this is 1 of the worst submissions to be put into in mma because you get tea bagged

  • Massa eu nao sabia esta parada da perna sobre a cabeca legal obtigado.

  • Wow, that is really cool. I have been trying to master this for ages. Thanks

  • I got this move on a partner in class today when we where rolling. It is a really cool submission.

  • The Kimura and Americana are similar. Is the difference that Americana is from full mount and Kimura is from side control? Same lock, different body positioning?

  • no its not the same lock it has a the americana has a different kind of pain than the kimura

  • @andrewt248 that isnt the difference, both can be done from lots of different positions.Americana applies external rotation to the shoulder, kimura internal, that my little novice friend is the difference.

  • thank you for the tutorial!

  • If u step over the whole world .. lol !!

  • could you get a triangle choke with tha way his legs are positioned?

  • If the arm is out, yes you can.

  • After I swivel my hips and try to put my leg over his head, my opponent uses his free arm to keep my leg from getting over and I can't get leverage. What do I do?

  • If he is grabbing onto your shin to block it, then I would switch my hips right back facing down and then put the knee over his elbow. Now you got perfect side-crucifix position with his arms separated

  • look at 3:22, balls are handing in the air right above opponent biceps and arm, and are not on top on opponents chest.

  • No, that is his buttock on top of Ryron's bicep/arm. His balls are directly on top of Ryron's right pectoral muscle. Ryron may do a bicep curl to reach but the most he can get is the anus.

Why dontchu have someone put this armlock on you and try to grab his balls AS HE TORQUES guarantee you won't be able to. Trust me, I've tried it on ppl of all sizes, length, they just can't do it when properly applied as in this video.

  • why were you reading the gay kama sutra?

  • Did he say that Kimura defeated Anu Gracie? Thats what it sounded like. Is Anu some other name for Helio?

  • He defeated Helio Gracie!!

  • na kimura actually lost cause when he initially challenged helio he said taht if the match lasts longer than 15 mins taht he will give the victory to helio because he had alot of weight on him

  • anybody who saw the video will agree that helio was thrown like a rag doll and completely dominated by kimura,I wouldnt claim that a win regardless of what was said beforehand.Kimura had about 20 kg on helio but was shorter.

  • @billysue2 True, however, Helio was fighting one of the best Judo guys of that time.

  • he defeated him twice. he was suffocated and passed out, and then he broke shoulder.

  • nah he clearly said "Helio", but kinda pronounced it 'elio

  • how do you defend this? I get caught with this sometimes and I just grab my hands together idk if that is correct or not?

  • Of course the best defense it too hide your arms properly but we all know that is not possible all the time. Sometimes you are able to turn your body to the side of the Kimura and use the bottom knee to sneak in between the hole of his arm making the submission and break up the figure four. Hope this helps hard to describe in words though :)

  • hmm sounds good. What about when he mounts you instead of the side mount in the vid and performs the kimura? still turn to the side of the kimura? I've heard of a answer the phone technique as well

  • how, how, grab balls. think outside jiu-jitsu box, lol. :)

  • You go for the nuts and I guarantee you won't have a shoulder left OR a face after that.

  • in the current world even big banks cannot give guarantees. How can you (a small guy) say that you give guarantee about balls? I wouldn't rely on your guarantees. As we have discussed this several times, the opponent would not be able to resist confidently without balls. Sorry, your idea is falty. D minus.

  • my instructor faced royce and tied with him... his name is bob schirmer

  • can opponent using his free hand grab his balls and squeese them?

  • Can't reach 'em, I was wondering that too so I tried it....

  • why you cant? look 3:23 - it is easily can be done several times so if he had like 20 balls, all they can be squeezed pretty great.

  • Cause as he torques the shoulder, it twists the body in a way that makes it really hard to grab the balls. It's not like I videotaped myself trying to grab some dudes balls, I can't explain all the details why you can't, I just know that you can't reach it.

When they're relaxed it looks like you can but when the actual torque comes and the twisting, you won't be able to grab it.

  • johnson, why don't you learn how to really fight instead of just being a ball grabber. That stuff does not work. Grab my balls all day, you won't wipe your own ass for months.

  • how do you know that it is impossible to grab balls? Did you try? Or just it is just a menral idea? If you would tell me - you tried and it was not possible (and explaned why it was impossible) then I would accept you great idea. But as for now - sorry.

  • When Rener steps his leg over Ryron's face, his balls are safely hidden on top of Ryron's chest. Watch it carefully.

When Rener torques the shoulder, Ryron's body naturally curls up thus removing any possibility of that free arm swimming under his crotch to grab the balls.

  • The Groin is On his chest. Also in a real fight, things are so fast paced, when he has you in a Kimura/Americana,Your arm will go SNAP Before you can target them in his pants ..even if he was doing it wrong so that they were vulnerable. If you go for the nuts,it may even anger the person anyways and they will shred you arm up. BJJ is amazing, sorry

  • lol nice 1

  • lol he's like the best jitz speaker! XD

  • Yes. Very clear instructions. Keeping making these vids!!!!!

  • Very good instructor. he points out every possible thing that you could fuck up and tells why it sucks and why you did it. he has a higher level of understanding for jujitsu than most

  • his last name is gracie

  • hey, I'm novice, is he Royce Gracie?

  • i believe that Ryon Gracie.

chek the gracie acadami web site

  • Ryron and Rener Gracie

  • Renner Gracie is teaching, Ryron Gracie is on the bottom

  • The leg over the head prevents it because by having the leg over there to push off of, you got the leverage of the leg to push the shoulder up off the ground.

What I mentioned is also a good way to defend against someone using the Kimura who doesn't plant the leg over your head. He got the grips, he tries to crank but you just push off your feet, raise your hips high, and place all your weight on your shoulder, he won't be able to crank your shoulder...

  • Hmmm, I'll have to try that and look at that fight. Thanks.

  • Tell me how it turns out my man

  • Oh yeah man I forgot to mention, for extra leverage to prevent him from propping your shoulder up and do the crank, you could use your free hand to cup his shoulder that's close to your face and pull it down as you keep your shoulders heavy.

If you do all this, it'll be futile for him to try to crank so he'll go with the idea to step over your head but he must switch his hips first. Right when he switches his hips, you could push and roll him over and you got a sweep!!!

  • What free hand? It takes two hands to do a keylock or pretty much any submission.

  • The free hand is the one he's not doing the Kimura on.

  • Oh, HIS free hand. Hahaha! I thought you said YOUR free hand. I see now. My bad.

  • It's cool my man, I hope you try it out soon ^_^

  • The only problem i see with this technique is if your opponent is carrying a gun.

  • It's very easy to disarm someone if you're on top

  • Beautiful and very clean.

    Bigger tanks for share.

  • interesting, i was taught a completely different way to do the kimura. i was taught it from when the oponent is inside my guard.

i was taught this lock as well, but it wasnt called a kimura when i learned it lol

  • They do another variation the one you were talking bout... Look up "rider variation" and "forced variation" of Kimura

  • Sweeeeeeeet.

  • the problem is when i grab the guy he straightens his arm immediately.........

  • Right after grabbing the wrist, plant the your elbow onto the ground next to his hip and put your entire weight on to it. Don't do the stepping over head until you defuse his attempts of straightening his arm. Hope that helps ^_^

  • In that case go for the classic armbar.

  • nice the switch of the hips and leg over the head was what i nwas looking for thanks

  • you guys are awsome i always win my submission matches because of yous

  • i want the tshirt! :P

  • brilliant technique

  • Rener is such a great teacher. Born to teach.

  • cara muito legais as posicoes desses videos!!! queria eu poder ir dia na academia d vcs!!!

    abraco!!! assiste meus videos...

  • thanks guys i was always making the mistake of balance of my base when i step over for the kimura i was easily pushed over. now i see my mistake

  • you guys are awesome

  • Hey, I was taught that even if the person sits up all you have to do is move their wrist back (the shoulder's already up so you move the wrist back to put more pressure on the shoulder) and they'll submit. Is this just another, fancier way of doing the submission that achieves the same result (which is, err, submission -- haha!)? Please answer!

  • not sure but i think if he sits up and you start cranking the wrist he can roll u

  • I don't think that will happen as long as you have a good base.

  • it's still less stable that's the whole reason for the leg over the head helps hold him down, see to crank the wrist u've gotta turn into him almost on ur side but if he's sitting up and u do that ur gonna completly lose ur balance and he can do whatever he wants with you, it just happened to me last night in practice

  • Then you're not doing it right. All you need to do is keep their wrist pinned to the ground and push their wrist out SLIGHTLY to the side. We're not talking about perpendicular to their body. You just make a little circle. You can still maintain your base and if you do it right and they're sitting up they'll be tapping lest you dislocate their shoulder.

  • if u've got it locked in then yea but if ur stil fighting for it and he sits up he can turn into u, of course he shouldn't be able to sit up if ur in the correct position

  • No, your base is what keeps him down. That's the whole point of a side mount. You secure your position, then you secure his arm, then you go for the submission.

  • that's what i mean, u asked if he sits up can u continue and my point is if he's able to sit up u don't have a good base and he's in good position to roll u if u try and crank the submission cuz ul be draped over him and curled to the side

  • Fine, I suppose if your base sucked and he could sit up you should straddle him. However, I still think even if he sits up you can get the submission before he rolls you. Even then, I don't think he could roll you period. That's just from my experience.

  • i just think it's better to be safe than sorry but you might be able to submit him anyway, dunno i just prefer to got to regain position if i start to lose my grip, and just restart

  • Well, losing one's grip and getting rolled are two different things. I'm just talking about getting the submission in without the danger of the guy rolling you.

For an example of this in a real fight, watch the fight between Fedor Emelenianenko (spelling?) and Kevin Randleman.

  • oh i know it's possible i just don't think it's the safest thing to do if your opponent gets their and he's able to tough out the submission for a couple of seconds you're dangerously off balance, oh and fedor and randlemen is a bad example cuz fedor is multiple time world sambo champion and kevin really doesnt have any submision grappling experience, so randleman was kind screwed from the moment fedor got on top of him, greats suplex ever though!

  • Experiment with this. Have someone put you in the kimura hold without the leg over your head. You'll sit-up with it you know and he would have good base so he won't roll over.

Now! When you sit up there's still danger of him cranking you know BUT plant both of your feet on the ground and push off them to drive your shoulder to the ground and at the same time straighten your arm.

Quinton Jackson vs. Sakuraba will show you in real time

The leg over the head will prevent that.

  • Ude Garame

  • You know if I met someone who knew Gracie Jiu Jitsu, I would probably have a lot of respect for the system, I might even have signed on to learn it as a professional who's job may need that kind of skill. But I have no respect for the Gracies when they use cheap underhanded marketing techniques in the form of UFC to promote their style.

  • I mean, it's no huge super secret about how underhanded the whole putting fighters in the UFC the Gracies know they're going to beat way back in the day, but before people run to the yellowpages to see if there's a BJJ studio in their area, try to remember that BJJ isn't the be all and end all of grappling.

  • What's som wrong about trying to sell your system if you truly believe it to be the best? They're trying to turn a buck, sure, there's nothing wrong with that. Plus most of the people in the first few UFCs were champions in their own right, GJJ is one of the best all around fighting arts, look at MMA today and I could count on 1 hand the people who don't use GJJ.

  • And not using a system that obviously works esp. for a person in your line of work is stupid and irresponsible.

  • what if,what if.what if he has an ak,what if he has a bazooka, what if he bites you. What if all that happened anyway and you had no jui jitsu skill.wow!what if..

  • theyre always advertising something but i put up with it since their technique and explanations are one of a kind.

  • Is he reading the information on the back?

  • very nice set up! I like it a lot

  • Thanks Guys!

  • Yes! thank you, you guys are great!

  • thank you guys for the video!!! keep it going. When are you guys coming to Puerto Rico to give Seminars??????

  • i want that tshirt

  • Then you just fuck up their shoulder.

  • what if the oponen decides to squeeze you testicles? or bite ur butt HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • lol or lick your asshole

  • awesome teachers!

  • Top quality class!!! But I disagree with the thumb grip thing, is much more easy to make a lot of pressure if you keep your thumb beside the other fingers in both hands! And if you are making pressure it will be pretty easy to control the arm, so you don't need a thumb grip!

  • i could not find a Machado jiu jitsu place, but there is AKA (american kickboxing academy) but that's too expensive. i found a Claudio Franca academy which can be an option and as i was driving the other day i saw a sign for BJJ and free lessons which i'm considering.

  • your lucky u live in cali period... im up in NY nd they way too far... at least u in the same state as the gracies

  • renzo's academy is in ny dude.

  • excellent job on the videos i really appreciate them. i wish there was a gracie academy near my city of san jose, ca so that i could train.

  • I think their is a Machado jiu-jitsu place close to or in San Jose. They are just as good as the Gracie's I think. I mean they are related to the them so yeah.

  • There's Cesar Gracie's place in Pleasant Hill off Contra Costa Boulevard.

  • Made it to a friend a couple of days ago!

    It worked! ;D
