Bob wrote the tune "Bebop Charlie" for broadcaster Chuck Niles. Horace Silver wrote "The Hippest Guy in Hollywood" for Niles as well. Talk about honors.
Bob was a neighbor of mine in Westlake Vlg., he and Evelyn used to come around and welcome me at Carmelos By The Freeway. I have taken a lot of still shots of the band, Nick Ciroli (deceased) was the drummer, and big Bob Cooper (deseased), i brought the band all beers during the break...all great players!
Charlie Loper and Bob McChesney on the same section! Now thats what I call a section. Especially with Loper playing lead and McChesney taking the solos!
My thanks to mkaiserme for posting the Bob Florence memorial concert videos. It's a shame that there are so few Limited Edition videos with Mr. Florence (I say Mr. out of respect). When the camera went around the band showing each musician and ended at the piano I wanted to cry.
Thank you, thank you, thank you......I was unable to attend and this brings it all home. Seeing the piano sans Bob is so heartbreaking. Thx for sharing
Who's on Drums? Sooo solid, man! I met Bob years back when he had Clyde on tubs. Nothing this man EVER wrote played or recorded was nothing but A- number tops. God Bless him and the cats in the sky have gained one of the best there ever was.
The Florence charts are so magnificently constructed. The man was a big band genius. Such a pleasure!

One of the greatest take offs on the old Malvin and John Schonberger composition "Whispering" that I have ever heard! RIP Bob Florence!!!

Peter Erskine. Just click on the "More info" link and you'll see the complete personnel list.

I'm pretty sure it's Peter Erskine. He was Bob's most recent drummer. It was Dick Weller before that. He is excellent also.
