This move is really hard for me! I had it for a second during class but have been trying to practice at home without much success, my hips end up looking like a they're swinging rather than an smooth, curving 8 shape.
When you are first starting out you will use the shifting of the knees. When you become stronger, the movement will come out of the hips with the knees following along for the ride.
Try not to go onto your toes until you have built up enough strength in your hips and lower back. If you go onto your toes too soon, you could injure yourself and you move will become a foot movement instead of a hip movement.
Keep your knees bent! This will help keep your heels on the floor.
Try doing the move with only your right hip. Just move the hip out, down, back to center, repeat. Do this on your right hip 20 times then change to the left hip, out, down, back to center, 20 times. This will help to lengthen the muscles and create muscle memory for each individual hip. Then, when you feel comfortable, try the move with both hips.
i wanted to know really badly, what is the name of the song here?? i really love the music!! and i love the way you teach. you break it down and make it simple! thank you very much!!!!

Actually i found out how to do it... thx... it hurt my hips for a while since i practiced all the time. my hips were sore. Then the more i practiced the more fluid it became if u know what i mean.. now i can do it without even thinkin abouit it.
All the dance moves will look different on the different body types. I'm sure you have more movement then you think. Keep practicing, you will become stronger and more limber with time.
You're the best teacher! Love this.

Is the dropping of the hip basically controlled by the shifting of the knees?

Remember that everyone progresses at their own speed. You will become fluent with practice and muscle memory.

Hi, practice doing the move with only your left hip. This will help loosen the muscles and build muscle memory.
