  • Hello Bulldoggy37, would the last 3 digits of your horn be 265?

  • I really love my 32 Selmer Super sSs, it sounds so good. Really like your playing on this ballad. It is OK to be beautiful on the alto, a la Paul Desmond. I also agree with jazzflutist, the set up does matter.

  • Beautiful warm sound. I know a friend who owns a Cigar cutter, but some of his pads are worn out so not used now can you tell me which type of pads are been used for this lovely horn...and from which website can it be ordered, added i formation will be of great help. Thank you.

  • Nice horn man ,you're damn right ,they are under estimated

  • This is sound of tenor sax!!!

  • @antohantoha I think it is what he said it is..an alto

  • Do you know if the Selmer Super Bari's are any good?

  • I own 15,111 Burnished Gold ,that belonged to Arnold Brilhart and Skeets Herfurt.

Great horn, and very historic. Skeets had the best Alto sound ever.

  • you sound great man!

Im also going to buy me a sss serial 13xxx , can you guys tell me some modern sss players?

  • sounded like a tenor saxophone............hmmmn tsk tsk

  • สวย มากครับ ราคาเท่า ไหร่ น้ออ

  • è un tenore quello che suona, non un contralto!

  • *****5*****

  • This saxophone sounds different because it was a Parabolic Cone, not just a conical bore like that of modern day saxophones. This saxophone should sound more mellow and have a string-like effect in the upper register. With a round chamber mouthpiece , it should play extremely well, and play with ease.

  • What set-up do yu use with this sax? I have a 17xxx Selmer Super Sax, and use a Brilhart Hard Rubber 4* with a 2 1/2 reed.

  • @bulldoggy37 I use a Zinner Strathon Ajustotone 8 and Alexander DC 3,0. I love the Ajustotone, since you have a lot of possibilities to vary the sound, with this little pin on top of it. It changes the chamber volume.

  • thats one sexy tone

  • What is the mouthpiece/ reed?

  • @MrAnglosaxman the mouthpiece is a Zinner Strathon Ajustotone 8

  • you have a nice horn collection

  • que sonido atenorisado

  • bella questa musica come si chiama ?

  • I have a Selmer Super Sax 18xxx but after they changed the octave mechanism because they got sued and I love it!

  • So nice ! ですね。

  • miluju tihle písničku

  • que joya de sax

  • I like this Sax. It's Marvellous,....

  • Where can i find this backing track?

  • Hi! where i can get more music loike this!!! who play like this song? Thanks! and sorry mi english is absolutely basic!!!

  • I can tell you the background music is by Jamey Aebersold. He produces many play-a-long CDs. They are nice to have if you lack a group to jam with.

  • bonito sonido que mouthpiece usa??

    beautiful sax

  • Now this..... this is a piece of art.

  • o sax mais antigo e lindo q eu ja vi quem me dera poder soprar uma raridade dessa lindo lindo lindo!!!!

  • Beautiful tone & emotional playing.

  • esse o nosso sonho de consumo!!!!!

    vala serio ?::

  • Sorry, but I don't understand what you wrote. I can only English or German.

  • that is just an awsome saxophone, all those details and that sound, man i want a selmer super sax sss cigar cutter

  • Rippin good tune sport ! wow That baby looks gr8

  • I think the Selmer Paris Cigar Cutter is one of the finest looking saxophones ever made :) Beautiful tone and a beautiful instrument - what more can you ask for :D

  • warm sound.

    love it.

  • LIKE MY ZEPHYR KING

  • super sax super ton very good

  • smoky ;) very nice!!!

  • Dude, blow some air through that horn

  • I agree with this guy. You've gotta lay into the horn a little more.

  • Beautiful old horn.Great tone.I'm stll partial to my '63 Silver Sonic though.I do prefere Selmer mouthieces with it.I guess with the King and Selmer combination I'm covering all the bases.Best of both worlds you know?I will pull out my old Berg Larson #5Stainless for the raunchier stuff.

  • Rated this 5 stars. Excellent. Top notch.

  • I find that with a nice sounding horn and mouthpiece to begin with - you will play differently. I could never really do ballads at all on my tenor 82Z with Meyer 5MM. Switched to a Selmer Soloist D and now I blow more long tones (and actually enjoy the sound, unlike before). The setup matters.

  • I love the selmer Paris saxes in general. I own a 5 Digit 1962 mark VI and though i have a good sound. that mark VI does the rest. i love my sax. and you are a good player

  • Very nice sound!!

what do you use as recording setup???

    Let me know;)

  • Thanks. This recording was made with a little Boss Micro BR and a t.bone STC2000 microphone.

Usualy I record with the Boss BR1200.But the little Micro BR is realy something. Can highly recommend it.

  • Beautiful horn, beautiful sound, but before I give the horn too much credit, it's YOU that sounds good. I've spent thousands of dollars and years trying to find the "ultimate setup", but in the end, I always sound like me. Great job.

  • Hey, thanks! You probably right, but a good horn is half of the rent. I love these old horns, they have so much character.

    So long

    mos

  • Incredible sound of this Cigar Cutter alto ... It sounds like a tenor. Marvelous ...

  • Mossite: I have added you to my favorites. You get such a great sound out of all of your saxophones. You sure take good care of the horns---they look better than new. Keep adding more tunes please! Leebm29

  • Beautiful sound. Very well played! I think the Cigar Cutter can do a real nice job on Ballads. I use a Mk VI alto and tenor. I also like the Conn 10M for ballads on tenor.

  • Since some of you asked. Yeap, it is realy played on an alto. Some listeners thought it was recorded with a tenor.

It is probably because of the Zinner Strathon Adjustone mouthpiece. You can change the sound from dark and warm to sharp and funky with it. So that is probably the whole secret of the dark tone.

The one I used is an #8 with Alexander DC Reeds #3.

  • Beautiful, tender performance with a very suave tone!
