"Island Life" and "Doctor Sax" have always been my two favorite Michael Franks songs. Everytime I hear this song I get visions of myself in Hawaii surf fishing for giant trevally!
@saxocopter Hi :-) Thanks for your comment! Yes Michael Franks does look like he has Reptilian DNA....but most of us have anyway....some of us have the RH- as a recessive gene, some have a higher dosage....and of course the bluebloods such as the Presidents of the USA and Royalty in the UK and other countries, are all inter-related! ~J
@dapfonz I never said reptilians are any lesser than me....then I think I also have some reptilian. Those with the RH- are closer to the reptilians apparently....I'm an RH+ with RH- as a recessive gene....in fact it appears most alien abductees are RH-
Gret song! Hearing this reminds me of seeing Michael Franks for the first time in 1987. It was a fantastic show with a killer band. The following morning I had the pleasure of meeting him at a local record store. He's a genuinely nice guy who patiently answered all the questions everyone had while he was signing CDs and LPs there. One of my most prized possesions is my copy of "The Camera Never Lies" LP that he signed for me.
Michael Franks is smooth jazz....I love his voice..it is so smooth....I have seen him in concert and he sounds just like he does on the radio GREAT...truly one of the best
Truely one of the timeless voices of jazz. Also a pioneer of the smooth jazz genre. As a kid growing up in L.A. in the 60s through to today, his voice seems to cut through the fog of and maze of the multiples of the era. I'm sure most of his admirers and fans would admit that his music is more valuable bought than downloaded. Classic. Simply, classic. I, like others, await anything new (or remastered) to be released.
I love all of Michaels music & poetry too - so beautiful to read such a lot of confirmations here :-) And hey: he sounds life even more relaxed than on the studio version - real laidback phrasing - just truly great! And young Chris Hunters sax playing is a real good contrast.
Kiss all this goodbye and..... Love, Love this song... brings me wonderful memories of my life In Key West and my husband whom I still adore 29 years later!!!
To Ilovemovies5.....I have seen MF at least 20 times and only once in Detroit did he do "When Sly Calls" it was New Years eve and it was a special treat to FINALLY here him do that song live......I've been searchin for a live video and I am convinced one doesn't exist.....soo sad ! It's a great tune !
This is one of my favorites. I suppose we all want to escape to the island life. Michael Franks has very smooth vocals. Thanks for the music! mic32one
I love this song but I can't hang with the live stuff. I also like "The camera never lies".. The studio version really does give me more of the "Island" feel..
...ive been listening to all your songs from the very start...i was very young then ...until i got my family...upto to the present... you are here with me... still in my heart and soul!
So do I! As I've said, this song always gives me visions of fishing in the surf in some exotic location, like Belize or Cozumel or Jamaica or Hawaii! The guy on the alto is really tearing it up, and you can hear the Sanborn influence in his playing.
i love michael! you must be so special to record this! thank you. i don't have a stereo but i could listen to michael because of you! you have a lot of class. please make more music. i love your taste.

I have this on vinyl & ultimately his best work so far. that cool, soothing voice is still there until now.
earl klugh, patti austin, etc. were some of the guest artists in the lp. he still got the distinctive voice even htough he's balding now.
way to go master franks! mabuhay ka!
