I'm an atheist and a libertarian so I can't stand when these republicans go on their theocratic rants. Even worse when they make claims about the founding fathers and forget that most all of them were non-christian deists.
i've been sent recently vids on how obama is the anti christ. people apparently seriously believe this in the xtian reich movement ... not michelle who wants to abolish minimum wage and practically reinstate slavery; not mitt romney who believes in an absurd polygamy ranch religion; Obama, they fear, is the anti christ!
@warriorprince1010 I'm not interested in your idiotic mantras. I'll make this really simple for you, just answer the following question: DO YOU THINK ANYONE HAS EVER BEEN WRONG ABOUT ANYTHING?
@warriorprince1010 "If X APPEARS to be true X IS true." You're claiming that there is no difference between something appearing to be true to someone and it actually being true. So no one has ever been wrong about anything. You're not really this retarded are you? How we know things is a field called epistemology. I suggest you look it up. The lack of a much better explanation, and positive, verifiable scientific evidence are basically how you can know something is true.
@warriorprince1010 wow, you've got to be kidding me. If a prostitute appears to love me she loves me.... logic. This is your argument: a) there is not evidence that X was not designed b) therefore evidence demands that X was designed. Do you accept this argument: a) there is not evidence that unicorns do not exist a) therefore evidence demands that unicorns exist. Please tell me you see the problem.
@warriorprince1010 Evolution has nothing whatsoever to say about the laws of physics. Physicists do not claim that the laws of physics were not caused by some agency. Evidence of how physical laws came to exist has not yet been discovered, but to claim that they were created by intelligence just because that’s a possibility is called an argument from ignorance. It’s like saying we don’t know what the result of a dice roll will be, so it must be 5.
@kyebean bleh no use, it's their old tried and true god of gaps rhetorical argument. Everything we don't YET understand they claim is "god's work" or "proof of god". Interestingly enough, he used to be used to explain literally everything and now that list is very very small. Although a unified theory would provide another timely crushing blow, hopefully it's something I see in my lifetime.
@riothero313 what do you apply that crushing blow to though? the little pile of dust called creationism that has already been crushed 1,000 times? They have nothing left to crush yet they still insist on supporting this dogma. Evidence and discoveries are of little to no use against faith. Every day they use 100 items/services/etc. that completely refute their "beliefs". We need to convey the harmful, insidious, ignorance spreading nature of all dogma/faith itself, and it's alternatives.
@warriorprince1010 It might APPEAR designed to the untrained human brain, for the reasons I just outlined. We also live in a world of design, everything around us in our day to day life is designed by humans, so we attribute it in nature where it doesn't belong. You would make more sense if you used a word like "undirected" instead of "accident". Like I said "accident" implies an agency unintentionally causing something. You're begging the question, not allowing for the possibility of no agency.
@warriorprince1010 Both of those options imply that there is an agency responsible for them. Human brains have hyperactive agency detection for social purposes. This is well understood in psychology. We have a tendency to attribute agency where none exists because we understand things easier in terms of intent and purpose. We see ghosts, we attribute countless benign noises in the night to all manner of beings with intent to harm us. How do you explain snowflakes? Define accident.
@timh651 Yeah Moammar Gadhafi was my source for health tips, idk what i'm gonna do now... anti aspartame is no different from anti-vax do a little research.
@warriorprince1010 False dichotomy. More possibilities exist than either life was designed or was an "accident". In fact the real explanation of the diversity of life, evolution with common descent, is neither. There is a difference between "random" and "undirected". Snowflakes are not random yet they are not designed either. Our universe exhibits certain fundamental laws and patterns, patterns that replicate themselves better obviously become more abundant.
@warriorprince1010 evidence isn't applied against propositions, it's applied towards them. Otherwise I can say by your same standard: "If you have any evidence against unicorns than you can take that up with them. Until then I'm happy to believe in unicorns." I have exactly the same justification to believe in any myth or bullshit I make up on the spot that you have to believe AIG. Proper epistemology and science requires evidence FOR a proposition not lack of opposing evidence.
@warriorprince1010 seriously friend, go back to school. AIG is not a scientific organization. Peer review. Scientific Journal. Research. Learn these terms. Then cite me one paper from an actual scientific database or journal, not an organization that has the fucking bible in it's name. Would you accept research from "Evil Atheist Conspiracy Propaganda Headquarters"? Find someone who is at least pretending to be objective.
@warriorprince1010 maybe your science is. where did you get your degree from? take the first two levels of college biology and the only thing you learn about is evolution. creationism was invented in an era of no scientific understanding.
Warriorprincess1010...... Uuuhhhhh I believe, that you don't believe in evolution. It's obvious, you never evolved a brain. Look we've finally found the missing link. ;))
@warriorprince1010 what do you mean by "god"? No accepted scientific research "demands a designer" in fact, all ID claims have been refuted BY SCIENCE. I'm an atheist, and I accept evolution, have I been aggressive or crack pot yet? Let me know when u think I've said something that deserves those criticisms.
@warriorprince1010 You seem to be suffering the delusion that you have a right to NOT be insulted. Speaking of people aggressively asserting their ideas onto people thought, groups like the LDS, evangelical Christians, Islamic extremists and moderates and the RCC all come to mind. So why then, do people of faith feel so confronted by even moderate Atheists or Agnostic Atheists?
God bless the secular government and the secular state, and secular education. It is good for all of us. The Courts have a duty to protect minorities from the tyranny of the majority.
What the religious do not forsee is that when theocratic control is achieved only one sect will dominate and you will fall into line with thier particualr views and interpretations or be persecuted and killed. Back to the middle ages.
Great stuff Sean! The Religious Right are the ones destroying American values Santorum and Gingrich are just two of the more prominent theocrats in the US. Religion is such a destructive force, ever since that lunatic Reagan said in 1980 to the Religious Right "I know you can't endorse me but I can endorse you" that started the rise of the the zealots and the rest is history.
Dead-to-the-spirit deluded "God Delusion" author & blithering fool scientist goon Richard Dawkins another "leader" given 2 the profane masses is another useful idiot 4 Jesuit machinations

Dude, why diet coke? Studies on Medline show how mice models increase insulin causing weight gain. I just had an announcement for a spot on a diet coke commercial and they wanted tall girls under 100 pounds.
@truvelocity the dosages in all those studies are ridiculous and have virtually nothing to do with expected effects from normal dosages. Even if they did, why are you citing mice models? there's plenty of human studies. And massive volumes have been consumed by humans for decades.
@kyebean I didn't know that. I thought it started out that way. I do see studies on google scholar. Primates. humans and neurotoxicity. It all seems ominous. But, that may be my problem.
@truvelocity Most safety/toxicity research does begin with animal studies. That's not "all controlled studies". Just because something SOUNDS ominous is certainly not a reason to be worried about it. The aspartame scare is right up there with anti-vax and 9/11 truth. You'd be shocked at how many people and even news outlets accept, embellish and propagate plausible-sounding myths without taking 5 minutes to do the most cursory research, that would reveal it to be utter and complete bullshit.
We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.
-Adolf Hitler, in a speech in Berlin on 24 Oct. 1933
My point was what he drinks really isn't a matter for us to be concerned about. But I do understand your reason for suggesting him to drink something other than coke. It just isn't any of your business, or mine, what he chooses to drink. As for my comment about you not liking him, I realize you do like him, but you implied that you could not like him for a silly thing such a what he drinks, eats, etc. Which is what I was most surprised by.
We have a special term for those who want to make their government a reflection of the words of the Koran: Islamist. It doesn't take much more than labeling a government "Islamist" for it to strike unease in the minds of the West.
Here we have pretty much an identical problem and perhaps we should label it accordingly: Christianist. Everyone seems comfortable with the difference in their minds between Muslim and Islamist, why not label those theocrats for what they are: Christianists.
@MrARock001 - Perhaps if you had a better understanding of the language you use then you would understand why words like "Islamist" exist. All you did is waved your incredibly short penis around in public and made yourself look stupid.
@spurezurko They are hardly waiting, let alone in the dark. Incessant attacks on our Constitutional rights and our culture are right out in the open. Trying to deny what's right in front of our faces is a rather dumb thing to do. Trying to insult by calling someone a know-it-all is childish. It doesn't take that much knowledge to see what's happening.
I can't believe Faircloth actually messed up Kennedy history to this gross degree. The claim of Kennedy advocating separation of church and state is an outright lie. He was a devout Roman Catholic who had a priest on his Cabinet and priests as advisers. Misrepresenting Jefferson is also very common with anti religion atheist advocates. Atheism as a political advocacy is a part of the socialist agenda. The rights they claim they intend to abolish, including religion.
IF he said it? That's a direct quote from his address, which continues as:
"--where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote--where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference--and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him."
"I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish--where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source--where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its official"
"Finally, I believe in an America where religious intolerance will someday end--where all men and all churches are treated as equal--where every man has the same right to attend or not attend the church of his choice..."
You doubt he would say that having a priest on his Cabinet? Why not? Many theists understand that they can hold their own supernatural beliefs without the need to impose them upon other people.
"I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."
January 1, 1802, Jefferson's Letter to the Danbury Baptists
I'm not a fan of the fallacious 'appeal to authority', but I'm also not a fan of calling people liars when there is clear evidence supporting their claims. Both of these figures may have had personal religious beliefs, but both of them also understood the need for a secular government.
@squirreldundee If I feel someone is intentionally distorting the truth, I call them a liar. Both Franklin and Jefferson were complex philosophers and to make such a blanket statement is grossly misrepresenting them. They did not believe in a secular government because a secular government is a fairly new concept that didn't exist back then. They believed no specific religion should be the state religion, that's it. The freedom of religion is in the first amendment for very good reasons.
While the term secularism may not have been coined until 1851 (by George Holyoake), the concept of secularism has a long lineage in human history. Notable early examples of the idea are exhibited by Greek Marcus Aurelius, the Roman Epicurus, and the Muslim Ibn Rushd. Of course, the more modern presentation is rooted in the 'Age of Enlightenment' ideas developed in 1650-1700. Any credible historian will agree that these philosophies had a decided influence on the American forefathers.
@squirreldundee None of these quotes even remotely indicate a desire for a secular government, but rather the freedom of religion. Secular advocates that I've seen are militantly anti religion. Having some religion traits in government isn't going to harm anyone. I get sick of the extremism in the attempt to completely remove all religious expression in government. I'm not religious, but I will defend the right to freely express it in government or anywhere else.
You address Newt Gingrich? That's too easy, how about debating a moderate conservative? Self proclaimed intellectual left-wing thinkers always pick the far right nut cases to misrepresent conservatives. It's a good way to make oneself look smart when you're not. I do agree with the general statement that secular efforts have created a nightmare. It's not about the absence of religion, but rather the absence of basic values like common decency. All politicians are idiots, not just Gingrich
This entire video should be an example to the world. Religion is a backwards way of thinking in our humanity and the only way to streamline our future is to abolish it entirely.
Although it does not look good for Obama, the Republicans might hang themselves before the election. The bad news is that we'd get Obama again and no chance, ironically, at real change! Obama is a better looking and a better speech reader than Bush...that is all. Other than that, he is a country club, crony capitalist insider. He praises Jesus, too.
@douglouissmithh Your comment in baffling. I'm sure he knows Diet Coke is bad for him, and he probably doesn't care. But suggesting he drink green tea and honey instead? Really? How is that better? Of course Aspartame is terrible, but sugar and carbohydrates are no better, it would have been safer, and simpler, to suggest he just drink water instead. But what really gets me is you could stop liking him simply because he drinks something.
@JSRS01 No. It's a great suggestion. I should have been more specific. step 1 teaspoon of green tea and add 1 teaspoon of honey (at most 10 grams of sugar). Why drink coke? For the stimulating effect. So I suggest a very reasonable substitute. And yes sugar is bad at high doses. Clearly water tea honey is better then what ever the f***k is in diet coke these days. Also I never said I would stop liking him in fact if you read my last sentience I said the opposite. Thanks JRSOWL01 :)
@isaak74 But it would be evil IN THE NAME OF JEEEEEEEEEEZUSS! Amen, brother!
More seriously, I'm not quite sure how high the sanity quotient is in the U.S. any more, but the Republicans are doing a very good job of making fools of themselves. The fickle fancies of the radical right keep jumping from one candidate to the next. On the whole, I think they are doing Obama a great favor by publicly airing the dirty laundry of their lunacy.
On the Coke issue, I drink regular Coke, but I'll gladly fight for the rights of others to drink aspartame ;) .
Pretty much agreed with all said. Even when I was a Christian, I believed in SCS. I didn't want religion in my school, my bed, or doctor's office, either. I still don't.
Sam harris should totally run for president. He should pretend he is a jew and then once in office he can turn tables and enforce the progressive ideals.
@Reaper081087 That'll take some time. It'll be some generations where the young population of Atheists/agnostics increases until it reaches or near reaches the majority and when they grow into the dominant age group things * might change.
More and more I think that USA is a lost cause. To be honest with the current tren I simply do not see how this can end without bloodshed and the same time I dread the thought of nuclear weapons in mad christians hands.
personhood starts at conception? If that makes abortion murder, then any woman who miscarries, or fails to have a fertilized embryo implant (~1/3rds) are guilty of involuntary manslaughter!
Want a baby ladies? be prepared to served years in jail if the the embryo does not implant, or the pregnancy goes poorly.
@Thunderf00t Are you capable of an intelligent argument? For that matter, are you capable of being honest? You misrepresent this law to the point of freakish absurdity. The law would in no way make miscarriage or implantation a criminal offense. The law is stupid enough all on it's own, it doesn't need this kind of immature misrepresentation. The law is irrelevant, it would never get passed committee. At least attempt to use your brain for something other than a leftist loudspeaker.
@Thunderf00t On the basis of spontaneous abortion - which occurs in at least 12% to as high as 30% of pregnancies - one would conclude that "GAWD" himself CAUSES abortions... Therefore, how can humans condemn other humans for behaving in a manner that mimics the actions of "GAWD", himself...
Are you dreaming? you are so off based by even considering giving Newt Gingrich the benefit of the doubt.
There is not a word comming from Newt, that is not prepared in advanced to adress a target adience.
Newt is, by far, the most dangerous of all the people on the stage, he is mean spirited, vindictive, a diabolic divide and conquer type of Machiavellican politician, a truly, truly evil and cynic man full of hatred.
The next is Santorum, and that is because he really is true believer.
Ron Paul stunned me when I learned that he was a firm Christian. That said, his proper orientation with the constitution and libertarianism has the fortunate side effect of preventing him (and others) from imposing their religion on us. Bonus: He could save our economy from disaster.
@BfSkinnerPunk No he won't. Ron Paul believes in the Gold Standard for the U.S. He would do everything in his power to enact the gold standard. Do you know how stupid the Gold Standard is for Modern America? The largest gold producer in the world is China. Something like 6-8 trillion dollars trade hands a day in the U.S? There isn't enough gold in the world to match U.S dollars floating around. He's a good man with ideas that won't work, thus he is ignored.
@RebirthWoWGuild Ron Paul rightfully wants to limit the money-printing (for short term political gain). Gold, respected world wide, just so happens to be an excellent limiting factor. Yes, we've printed so many US dollars that you might say that there isn't enough gold in the world. However, this is no problem at all (and reflects your naivity with respect to the issue). 1 dollar could equal 1/200th of an ounce of silver. $100 could be some other tiny fraction of gold.
@RebirthWoWGuild Ron Paul is ignored.... well at least the media is doing their best to ignore him inspite of his standings in the polls. But yes, most people are unaware of him. They are, instead, aware of Pelosi, Bush, Paris Hilton, Obama, Herman Cain, Justin Bieber and other mental giants. They subscribe to People Magazine. So, I'm not so sure "thus he is ignored" is exactly a sign of having bad ideas! We are utterly broke. We need to flush the toilet. No time for Pelosi pablum.
The religiosity of the right wing is unfortunate. With the left wing system, our economy collapses on itself and unspeakably unfortunate things happen. With the right wing, we invite something of a theocracy. (also, note that there are many democrats ... maybe most... that are quite in love with Jesus, too)
Well, if the neofascist pigs try to turn this country into a theocracy- we DO have a 2nd Amendment. THAT is what it is for. Get a good rifle. Get AT LEAST 1000 rounds. Oil it up, load it, practice with it and get ready. They are dead set on a civil war. Sooner or later, we are going to be forced to give it to them.
@bamboo4tameshigiri Although it is good fun to cast the right wing as theocratic, it is important to note that MOST Americans are terrifically confident Christianity's truth. There is no way that the tiny fraction of atheists could physically fight against the hoards of Christians. Besides, it is unlikely that we'll have the luxury to worry about religious philosophy when the economy implodes!
@BfSkinnerPunk The reich wing is theocratic. That's a fact, there's no playing or joking about that and you know it. Not all christians are insane fuckwits that want to burn the Constitution and replace it with the bible. Unfortunately, too many who do want to do so have made their way into power in the neofascist wing of the Republican party. The ones that aren't insane brain dead fuckwits are too afraid to speak up anymore, with a few exceptions. They lose donations when they tell the truth.
But we in MISSISSIPPI just defeated the personhood amendment. Clearly nobody wants the personhood at conception amendment if even MS voted against it.
Is this the official position of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science? I don't hear a lot of reason or science in it, it sounds more like a left wing rant.
@danielt63 Sounds more like an anti-theocratic rant to me. But what do I know. Are you saying that what right-wingers want is to exchange the bill of rights with the ten commandments of the bible?
@DukeTwicep Neocon fascists, yes. They want to turn the US into a theocracy. Most of them are too stupid to understand that will backfire on them completely, but that's what they want.
BJ219, you stated that a zygote is not part of the mother's body and that if so their DNA would be identical? Are you a geneticist? The first part of your reply sounds like you could use it as rationale for the virgin birth. What I am saying is this. The church(any church) does not have the scientific knowledge to make laws or "define" eg conciousness.Separation of church and state. It should be a requirement for any political candidate to be atheist. Non- judgemental bias in all decision making.
constitution < bible (christian mindset). why? because the infallible 2000 year old word of goat herders, oops, I mean GOD supersedes everything now and forever.
all you need to do to win as a republican is to say patriot, terrorist and jesus over and over again. and your chances may be even better if you say it in front of an american flag. anything that requires a voter to think beyond that will be considered elitist and socialist and they wont vote for you.
Suddenly I've got a terrible craving for a Diet Coke. Anyone got a Diet Coke? I think I'll get in my Ford Explorer and drive on down to Albertson's supermarket and by myself a nice 12-pack of Diet Coke.
(This comment sponsored by Ford, Albertsons, and the Coca Cola Company.)
@myjizzureye hell yea dude! glad i dont live there. the very tenets that made it the greatest nation are being eroded, which will bring it further to its knees. sad stuff.
@RebirthWoWGuild Yeah they are not in debt to their eyeballs at all really. Its like heaps easy to get a job there and things have never been better financially. Also Russia are most certainly not pissed off about the missile shield and China just love the USA. Yep rich and really healthy diplomatic ties they have.....
@myjizzureye You can name 2 countries that matter for the U.S, how many can you name for both Russia and China? All it would take for the U.S to come out of debt is harder taxes and some cuts, they HAVE the wealth to do it but they're too politically grid locked. It's not like the U.S has exhausted their resources and are still in debt, rofl. * spastic *
@RebirthWoWGuild Nah your right everything is working perfectly there, no cunt is unemployed and being highly religious is a good thing.......ya dog fiddling simpleton.
BTW if the Arab countrys where to shut the taps on the oil tomorrow the USA would be fucked over night.
@myjizzureye No? Do you even know who the LARGEST BY FAR supplier of oil is to the U.S? Canada is, and we export oil all over. We have the 2nd most oil reserves in the world second only to saudi arabia. And Saud arabia is a U.S ally. Saudi arabia hates Iran more than the U.S. Canada could shut our valves to all other countries besides the U.S and the U.S would be fine in some kind of oil crisis. That is why they are building that huge pipe between Canada and the U.S
Calling Newt the "big idea guy" when contrasting him with the other, and I have to use the term loosely here, people on his side of American politics is unnecessary.
Newt is the idea guy, full stop. He'd be the idea guy if he only ever had one idea. I'm fairly confident when I say he'd remain the idea guy if the only idea he ever had was getting pizza post-midnight after hotboxing a few too many joints.
I mean, you named Bachmann.. just look at her eyes. Nobody's home in there...
@eatingtacos000 JstNEarthling has stated he would be up for a presidential run. Check him out, if you like his position spread the word and Write him in for 2012.
Hey, zygotes are people too. They pay taxes and pray to Jesus just like everyone else. Just because they are only made up of an infinitesimally small and ambiguous cluster of cells, doesn't mean they don't feel sad when they are aborted!
As a citizen of a former totalitarian country i remember the days when everything about America was synonymous with freedom and prosperity and open mindness.
Today from what i`m hearing/seeing U.S. sounds like it is in the way of becoming one such totalitarian state where there is no much freedom .
Perhaps they should call it United States of Jesus...
Personhood? Define personhood.Does this person at conception also have a soul? If so,the 249,999,999 2nd place swimmers(who also have potential souls are, with every conception, murdered/sacrificed by God in the swim for life. ( I remember having 23/23 on my speedos). All kidding aside, religion must be made to answer for scientific, rational, verifiable realities that are now proven to be true by science. This bullshit has to stop.Pulling religious BS out of your butt is no longer acceptable.
@rickuj I don't disagree with you, but I have first hand experience with the Pro-Life movement from within the Catholic Church. What it amounts to is this: a zygote is a genetically unique individual, with human DNA. It is a human individual, and while dependent on the mother's body for survival, it is not a part of the mother's body. If it were, it's DNA would be identical to hers. It is a distinctly human individual, and thus, a person. If personhood is defined by consciousness, we must [cont]
@BJ219 [cont] explore at which boundary consciousness and humanity are defined. If a zygote is not a person because they are not fully conscious, what amount of consciousness is sufficient to apply personhood to that individual? What about people in persistent vegetative states? The retarded? Those with mental deficiencies who are not retarded (e.g., "slow"), or those who are blind or deaf and thus deprived of an aspect of consciousness? I look forward to your response, it interests me greatly.
@BJ219 i view life to begin at consciousness. for the brain dead, they are technically alive but if they are in a persistent vegetative state than i don't think they should have human rights (in fact they don't, they are not allowed to choose because they are incapable). for the mentally impaired we remove their rights and have other people make decisions for them. for those who are temporarily unconscious we respect their last known rights until they are able to decide for themselves again cont
@greycloud24 for those who have never had awareness than they have had no desires and no goals. a person who loses awareness while desiring to live in the future is different than a creature that has never desired to live in the first place. but we even go so far as to protect people from their own choice. i would be much more inclined to support the pro-life movement if suicide was a legal and accessible option for those that decided that their birth was a mistake.
@BJ219 A person may be involved in an accident and as a result be brain dead. Yet with the current technology in medicine it's possible to let that person's body live on like a vegetable. Is that person still you or your father or mother or son? That individual is gone even though the body still lives, only the memory in your mind remains. The brain dead body is as much a human as is your finger. Your finger is human, but it is not a human and if it's cut off no human life gets lost. (cont)
@BJ219 (cont) So it comes down to brain activity, both at the end or beginning of life. The brain dead casualty is no longer a human, the zygote or embryo is not yet a human. When the brain starts functioning so that it responds to the outside world then you can speak of a human.

@warriorprince1010 False dichotomy. More possibilities exist than either life was designed or was an "accident". In fact the real explanation of the diversity of life, evolution with common descent, is neither. There is a difference between "random" and "undirected". Snowflakes are not random yet they are not designed either. Our universe exhibits certain fundamental laws and patterns, patterns that replicate themselves better obviously become more abundant.
kyebean 2 months ago

Would you accept research from "Evil Atheist Conspiracy Propaganda Headquarters"? Find someone who is at least pretending to be objective.

Dude, why diet coke? Studies on Medline show how mice models increase insulin causing weight gain. I just had an announcement for a spot on a diet coke commercial and they wanted tall girls under 100 pounds.
truvelocity 3 months ago
@truvelocity the dosages in all those studies are ridiculous and have virtually nothing to do with expected effects from normal dosages. Even if they did, why are you citing mice models? there's plenty of human studies. And massive volumes have been consumed by humans for decades.
kyebean 3 months ago
@kyebean All controlled studies start with animal/mice models with the peer review in order to warrant further study on humans.
truvelocity 3 months ago
@truvelocity No they don't "all" start with that. Anyways, how is that a response to what I said?
kyebean 3 months ago
@kyebean I didn't know that. I thought it started out that way. I do see studies on google scholar. Primates. humans and neurotoxicity. It all seems ominous. But, that may be my problem.
truvelocity 3 months ago
@truvelocity Most safety/toxicity research does begin with animal studies. That's not "all controlled studies". Just because something SOUNDS ominous is certainly not a reason to be worried about it. The aspartame scare is right up there with anti-vax and 9/11 truth. You'd be shocked at how many people and even news outlets accept, embellish and propagate plausible-sounding myths without taking 5 minutes to do the most cursory research, that would reveal it to be utter and complete bullshit.

"--where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote--where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference--and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him."
squirreldundee 3 months ago
@tdfisk
...and another quote from that address:
"I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish--where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source--where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its official"
squirreldundee 3 months ago
@tdfisk
...and one more
"Finally, I believe in an America where religious intolerance will someday end--where all men and all churches are treated as equal--where every man has the same right to attend or not attend the church of his choice..."
You doubt he would say that having a priest on his Cabinet? Why not? Many theists understand that they can hold their own supernatural beliefs without the need to impose them upon other people.

I'm not a fan of the fallacious 'appeal to authority', but I'm also not a fan of calling people liars when there is clear evidence supporting their claims. Both of these figures may have had personal religious beliefs, but both of them also understood the need for a secular government.
squirreldundee 3 months ago
@squirreldundee If I feel someone is intentionally distorting the truth, I call them a liar. Both Franklin and Jefferson were complex philosophers and to make such a blanket statement is grossly misrepresenting them. They did not believe in a secular government because a secular government is a fairly new concept that didn't exist back then. They believed no specific religion should be the state religion, that's it. The freedom of religion is in the first amendment for very good reasons.
Thomas
tdfisk 3 months ago
@tdfisk
Any credible historian will agree that these philosophies had a decided influence on the American forefathers.
squirreldundee 3 months ago
@squirreldundee None of these quotes even remotely indicate a desire for a secular government, but rather the freedom of religion. Secular advocates that I've seen are militantly anti religion. Having some religion traits in government isn't going to harm anyone. I get sick of the extremism in the attempt to completely remove all religious expression in government. I'm not religious, but I will defend the right to freely express it in government or anywhere else.

Ron Paul stunned me when I learned that he was a firm Christian. That said, his proper orientation with the constitution and libertarianism has the fortunate side effect of preventing him (and others) from imposing their religion on us. Bonus: He could save our economy from disaster.
BfSkinnerPunk 3 months ago
@BfSkinnerPunk No he won't. Ron Paul believes in the Gold Standard for the U.S. He would do everything in his power to enact the gold standard. Do you know how stupid the Gold Standard is for Modern America? The largest gold producer in the world is China. Something like 6-8 trillion dollars trade hands a day in the U.S? There isn't enough gold in the world to match U.S dollars floating around. He's a good man with ideas that won't work, thus he is ignored.
RebirthWoWGuild 3 months ago
@RebirthWoWGuild Ron Paul rightfully wants to limit the money-printing (for short term political gain). Gold, respected world wide, just so happens to be an excellent limiting factor. Yes, we've printed so many US dollars that you might say that there isn't enough gold in the world. However, this is no problem at all (and reflects your naivity with respect to the issue). 1 dollar could equal 1/200th of an ounce of silver. $100 could be some other tiny fraction of gold.
BfSkinnerPunk 3 months ago
@RebirthWoWGuild Ron Paul is ignored.... well at least the media is doing their best to ignore him inspite of his standings in the polls. But yes, most people are unaware of him.

BJ219 3 months ago
@BJ219 i view life to begin at consciousness. for the brain dead, they are technically alive but if they are in a persistent vegetative state than i don't think they should have human rights (in fact they don't, they are not allowed to choose because they are incapable). for the mentally impaired we remove their rights and have other people make decisions for them. for those who are temporarily unconscious we respect their last known rights until they are able to decide for themselves again cont

@greycloud24 for those who have never had awareness than they have had no desires and no goals. a person who loses awareness while desiring to live in the future is different than a creature that has never desired to live in the first place. but we even go so far as to protect people from their own choice. i would be much more inclined to support the pro-life movement if suicide was a legal and accessible option for those that decided that their birth was a mistake.
greycloud24 3 months ago
@BJ219 A person may be involved in an accident and as a result be brain dead. Yet with the current technology in medicine it's possible to let that person's body live on like a vegetable. Is that person still you or your father or mother or son? That individual is gone even though the body still lives, only the memory in your mind remains. The brain dead body is as much a human as is your finger. Your finger is human, but it is not a human and if it's cut off no human life gets lost. (cont)
Tervicz 3 months ago
@BJ219 (cont) So it comes down to brain activity, both at the end or beginning of life. The brain dead casualty is no longer a human, the zygote or embryo is not yet a human. When the brain starts functioning so that it responds to the outside world then you can speak of a human.
