I want to install Ubuntu 9.04 desktop edition on my Asus eee pc 904ha. Is the booting really this slow or is it because of the Flash drive? I have a 160 gb hard drive is it going to boot fast?
Booting is this slow because of the live disk. The netbook needs to load every bit of information of the usb disk every time. Ubuntu works very fast on a 2 Ghz + 1 GB memory. If you have more it will even work faster =P
And what if one doesn't want to pack around a big old dinosaur of a laptop? My new eeepc 901 does everything my big laptop does, lasts nearly 7 hours on a charge, and is almost as easy to carry around as a paperback novel. ASUSeeePc 901 and linux--perfect. You can keep your 15" monster.
I was replying to dglaw0329. I also got the 901 and it's quite affordable. The Kohjinsha isn't as affordable because it's much more expensive than an average 15' lappy.
You can install from the standard Ubuntu LiveCD, but you should search for "Ubuntu Script Pack" for instructions on getting WiFi and other features working. Or better yet, search for eeeXubuntu, a custom Xubuntu distro for the Eee.
There is not such thing as 2d or 3d os. Compiz is just something that convert your desktop into a 3d entity: the underlying OS is still the same. The same thing apply the e17, it's just a window manager, and control the way your desktop react to your inputs. Don't worry, 3d games will work perfectly.
nvikram was correct, that is likely a FULL desktop version of Ubuntu running "live" solely in RAM. It is not touching the drive where the Asus Eee stores its OS normally and getting instruction off the usb drive.
This is Ubuntu having to set itself up from scratch (almost like an install on a formatted clean drive), not like a factory preloaded Windows XP. Windows XP can't boot like this on such a small amount of RAM.

EEEbuntu is great if you have a SSD.
But this is Ubuntu on an eeepc :/

I'm afraid the title of this video is misleading.
I was expecting eeebuntu...this is Ubuntu on the EEE Pc...not eeebuntu on the EEE...
Ahh well...

ASUS SUCKS GET A KOHJINSHA

Take into account of the price and you'd probably be better off with a 15' laptop.

You can get an external one, btw. He's not running it from a live cd, from a flash drive, with the live cd image, supposedly.

Not much for xfce. I'd rather run the standard os.

Where would you go about getting an ubuntu distro that could work on the asus eee pc?

Question: If I installed Geubuntu onto the ASUS Eee PC will 3D games be supported? or ,because it's, a 2D OS it won't be compatible.

why the fuck would they put outdated technology in it?
DocSloth 4 years ago
The intel chipset that the asus eee pc uses, incorporates USB 2.0 natively, so why would they use USB 1.0?
side point, but EEEbuntu looks good

i've seen a side view of it, it's 2.0

My EEEbuntu (custom install) booting from the ssd is 48Secs. This is live cd thats why its slow.

I would like to know the boot speeds of a real installation.
Also if suspend/hibernate works, might make boot up much faster.
