@smartymanify yeah it really was, which is why I opted to show only a few seconds of its footage, haha. I think the only way to keep it stable is to execute a tail press the whole time!
@maffegoser I actually built mine from PVC pipes and connectors, available at any hardware store. Then just mount one of the GoPro adhesive mounts to the end of the pole, and you're good to go. I've heard of others using monopods and ski poles, but mine was cost effective (under $15 when you include spray paint), and if it ever breaks, I'll simply just have to cut another piece of PVC as replacement. Happy building!
@maffegoser im using a scrap ski pole that i got for free in a snowshop...... and then i put the tubing adapter for the gopro on the ski pole.... dont need the entire ski pole... you can cut it :P enjoy
@djdjocker This is an excellent idea if you have cheap and easy access to a ski pole. I didn't at the time, so I went PVC. It's a little more work, but as evidenced by my Tahoe trip this weekend, one of the PVC pieces snapped when another snowboard came down on it; so now all I have to do is cut another PVC pipe to size and reattach the connectors. Cheap!
Looks like you all had fun but I'm kinda sad to hear that this is what pow looks like in socal... Just moved to CA and love it but I was hoping to get a few feet of pow at a time? Is this ever possible here?
@mknomics Yeah powder surely isn't the same as it is in "true" snow cities. Albeit we weren't in back country or anything; what you see in the video is main trails, very groomed. But relative to what we see normally here in SoCal (hard-packed, usually icy), these conditions were great. With the rain we've received lately, there should be some good riding conditions for the next week. Good luck!
Cool video. Do you get problems with overexposure and white washout due to sun on snow making for really bright conditions? Some of your video did loose detail on the snow. The reason why I ask it I got the GoPro HD and have that problem
@MountainCat1M It seems to be pretty common to get both hot spots as well as very dark areas while filming with the GoPro. I attribute it mostly to the camera's strict point-and-shoot nature, with little ability to adjust for detailed pieces as mentioned. You'll get used to it though, as I have. Afterall, can't complain much about a camera this size, able to do what it does. Happy filming!
Sweet vid man, really shows great potential for the camera. Did you do any post work like colour editing? specifically around 2:43 ? Its a nice effect but i would be slightly put off if that is show the camera recorded it.
@jgerma21 Yeah, I used some filters in iMovie to gain some of the shots with intense color. Most of the other shots that look more "natural" are unedited.
hey the stick mounts are so easy to make all u need is i used a broken golf club it weighs less then a pound and i got it for free so ya but there soooooooo easy to make anything works a broom stick anything
@hawnsolos With the design of my mount, I can create any bends I want. The one I use in particular uses multiple pieces to attain maximum durability while keeping it relatively light weight, and affordable. In the video, there are mixtures of shots using both the straight pod and with a 90 degree bend as well. If you like, I can build one for you at cost of parts plus labor.
Nice editing

The pole is probably about 3 feet long, give or take... anything in that range should work fine. Good luck!
