I can't believe i stumbled on this video at 4am. Bro, this video is such a blessing. I'm learning this for the campus choir I play for. I've been goin hard on it and u made it clearer. Be blessed man... PS. that's def Reggie Young's Ken Smith lol. I recognize his triplets a mile away lol.
But i don't undrestand the part with triton (8.00 min)
I don't understand what you do. I have understood many licks with tritons but this lick i don't understand .. could you explain it because I would like to use in other songs
This tutorial put so many things into perspective for me. Firstly, it taught me that to be a good bassist or musician on a whole you have to know the theory of music and how it applies to your music and playing. I would often hear these bassist playing those licks and would always think my goodness....how did he hear that???....not realising that he has simply just applied theoretical techniques into his playing. Thanks Knightmayorz, this was really enlightening!!
P.S. I should have mentioned this earlier but it slipped my mind. I had to bring it up once I thought about it because, it is just to amazing not to! There is a video on this site named "COGIC AIM Convention 2007 Louisville, KY". DW is on the bass and during 3:37-5:02 on that video every move that he plays are diminished fills! It is AWESOME!!! It is an excellent source to rip diminished moves from!
Responding to Knightmayorz comment, "if we know anything else about the diminished chord to post it", there is another way (but, not limited to) to play the diminished notes. In Ricky Dillard's "The Light" at the first 7-10 seconds of the song the the band plays a popular current gospel motif. All three notes in this fill are notes out of the diminished chord. Even though it is not played in the place of a diminished chord you could use this fill (or variations of it) as one.
I have a hard time with the tri-tones because no one has ever told me what a tri-tone is. My pastor has a degree in music so I guess I could always ask him.
its the 3rd and dominant 7th of any bass note so Ab would be C and F# but its also Ds tritone cuz Ds third is F# and dominant 7th is C so if ur bass not is Ab you would hit a C and F#
Damn theory is boring!

My godbrother actually cowrote "lift him up". That was his first time getting writing credit!!
where did you get the audio for that hezekiah walker track at the end of the video? Sounds different than the version that i have.
ALSO - you really beasted that track. I really enjoy listening to your stuff b/c you give me so many fresh ideas with quick application.
I need to get into a playing situation where i'm being challenged on a consistent basis!!
