  • 0:13 - what is kaput?

  • @william59glersh he says "pfennigteil" - means a cheap part, like a bolt or a screw. something you can buy for some cents

  • sssshhhhh

  • i need this engine in my jeep

  • Everyone is forgetting what Le Mans is about, its about innovation. so if you whine about petrol cars being at a disadvantage, INNOVATE then!

  • Yeah, go ahead and innovate when the current technical regulations makes sure diesel is at advantage no matter what you do with petrol.

Compared to turbocharged petrol engines the diesels can have: a) 1500 cc more displacement b) bigger restrictors c) bigger boost pressures

Unfortunately, this has pretty nothing to do with innovation, but making inferior (indeed, why else would they need these advantages?) technology superior in the name of marketing, and that's quite sad.

  • * pretty = pretty much

  • @ApSykesThewolf How about innovating the sound of the diesels so they don't sound so fucking boring. And the fact that diesels are winning has very little to do with the diesel engine itself and very much to do with Audi and Peugeot spending big bucks that other teams / manufacturers don't have (or aren't willing to spend). I mean, let's be honest: Audi and Peugeot don't really have any serious competition.

  • @evan1005 lol dude, its about performance, i would seriously sacrifice sound for a car that would smoke any car in a race lol

then thats their loss, you gotta put dedication and cash into these cars, if you dont, then you dont have a chance. and also driver lineup.

  • @ApSykesThewolf makes me wonder about why the mazda 787b got banned after its first appearance/victory because of unfair weight advantage. if they hadn't banned the car then maybe rotary engines would be more established than they are now.

  • If deisel has proven faster as it has 3 times at Le Mans then why dont the other teams make deisel cars instead of complaining about losing. Kw is the old generation its all about NM now. More distance covered, faster and using less fuel. And it takes less power from oil companies to make deisel. So go with diesel!

  • Did you know that diesel engines can have 1.5 litres more displacement, bigger boost pressure and larger air restrictor compared to turbo petrol engines?

Essentially the rule makers have made inferior technology superior. Yes, INFERIOR, on a race track - at least as long as the name of the game is power instead of fuel usage. Some sort of fuel flow limits in regulations might give diesels genuine advantage, but thats not how it is right now.

  • Statement from rule makers: build diesel or lose. Unfortunately not all manufacturers can build diesels. Not to mention private teams.

Just last week ACO announced that diesels get 30 kg ballast, but that's just another pathetic attempt at balancing the rules. There will never be a balance.

  • The deisel engines already weigh more than standard petrol engines.

Why not to make it interesting impliment a fuel usage system instead. Where Petrol engines have to remain below a certain L/100km and same with diesel but diesel has to stay sat 3l/100kms below that.

All race car technology is in essance what is makign all of our road cars more environmentaly better. So the emphises should be put on economy & then try and make the most power possibly while achiving a certain L/100km.

  • fuck diesel. they're gonna get no spectators if all the cars are diesel. half the reason i go to a race is to hear an awesome sounding petrol engine. not some fucking "whoosh" sound. racing will be horrible if all the cars are diesel and i hope they ban the diesel engines. they're supposed to be race cars, not semi's.

  • They will find a way to make them sound better.

  • @chipattack911 Only america is stuck in age old thinking that anything diesel = black smoke puffing truck, with half decent economy but bad for the environment etc. Only those god aweful engines that semi's decide to use are as bad as that, most Western European trucks don't spew out anywhere near the amount of CO2

  • @lacoste10156 is all about the sound, though

  • @lacoste10156 it's all about the sound, though

  • @chipattack911 oh if you're all about the sound then yer...I don't personally have a problem with racing diesel engines, all just part of a new age but nothing will ever come close to the sound of the petrol, but the problem is racing has to get greener etc. and the Diesels have proven that they're perfectly capable of delivering great racing

  • @lacoste10156 yeah true, true

  • they talk about changing motor parts of the cars and the rules that a le mans car should not be faster than 3:30 per round... they also said that it will be no difference if the cars drive 3:30 per round or 3:18 and that makes the sport more safe...

  • Absolutely no idea what they're talking about in this video, but what ACO has done for this year is tweaked air restrictors for diesels. Theoretically about 10% less horse power. I'm not sure if they have achieved real balance between diesels and petrols...

Unfortunatelyl the bigger change is coming in 2011. Current LMP1 engine rules will be wiped out, and future P1 cars will use LMP2-sized engines. Goodbye 6.0L V12s. Sad statement about green environmental shit that is going on everywhere.

  • The commentary is in german!! :D

    I´m from Germany ;-)

  • excuse me,what are they talking about?

  • some of them think, that the commentary is in dutch or something else^^

  • hehe,thank you^^

  • they talk about the rules in 2009 and in the future of the 24-hour-race in le mans, nothing interesting...

the cars will be slower, but i think it's shit, cause the cars are fast and thats why le mans is as interesting as it is now and in the past

i hope you understand what they say and what i think :D

  • i agree your view,if chang the rules,i think more and more audience would not watch Le man

  • yes that's it, but the cars are amazing, if they are slower they'll have their amazing sound!!

  • hehe, but i like faster speed rather than amazing sound~

  • me too :]

  • i think that le mans is the type of industry that will always be supported by fans even though the rules change. we like the performance most, but also the technology and art

  • @rasti95 your a fag, im just letting u know

  • it IS..

Mike Rockenfeller... He lives in our village ;)

  • Its German
