Never Ridden MBTA, but Having been on both MTA, and SEPTA I will say this. They are both very efficient and timely, BUT SEPTA's cars smell better by far....
The Septa is the best line, it's not as nosy leaving or entering, and it is cleaner. I do prefer the orange color trains to the plain steel. Living in NY some lines are better than some they did improve on some of the train lines, meaning some lines have the newer improve train while others are still using the older trains. The buses are better. My vote goes for Philly Septa!
septa's the best and cleanest and fastest. their service, for market and frankford line anyways, is one subway every 4 mins. AMAZING service. for the trolleys, sometimes its one right after the other! great service
I like MBTA the best, not because I live around there, but it's clean, I like that they have other forms of transit, and it's easy to get around Boston because they have subways that have stripes and stay on that line WTATA and MTA.
@MultiMaxim18 the MTA just did a massive fleet renewal project and actually now probably has a newer fleet overall than the 3 T lines considering the thousands of cars that have been delivered in the past decade. and you're contradicting yourself by saying that people not riding the trains is bad and people riding the trains (NYC's crowding) is also bad. Also, the orange and blue line cars are cramped and crowded and they run at a horrible frequency.
SEPTA is the best not because of daily ridership or the number of trains on their tracks but because its the safest and SEPTA is much more advance in rail technology than both MTA and MBTA.
@Pokestar9 our friends house is on redline. our hotel is on redline some of the best restaurants are on redline. but fenways on greenline and my uncles work is on greenline as well and we like to meet up with him there. i like greenline my 2nd fav
@redsoxguy617 well, the orange line's my second fav cuz it stops at Chinatown and near a hospital and my hotel when i went to boston the second time. The first time i went to Boston my hotel was closet to the silver line at Silver Line Way. (my dad picked the hotels for me!)
OK UM THERE ARE 4 lines for MBTA plus 12 rails so ur wrong just saying and about a total in the whole system of 280 stations. no effense but utr prob from nyc
@subwayguy1000 no offense... but the 4th line which you mention is a light rail line (yes it goes underground) it is technically not a subway... sorry does it even resemble a subway cars no... the light rail line is separate go into street level and in certain times integrating with traffic (now you dont see the blue, orange, or red line doing that do you?)...
@MrTrainoperator the route 100 is not on the same level as the MFL or BSS. It's more on the same level as the 101 and 102, a bit higher since it runs completely on a separated ROW, third rail, high platform, and at a decent speed. also, none of the line is within Philadelphia: it is entirely contained within the suburbs.
Honestly, I can only compare Mta and Septa I have never ridden Boston's rail. I will say that both NYC and Phila. have the ability to have great rail systems. I prefer the Mta because whenever I ride on Septa I swear NYC could do it better. Of course that's not fair the two systems are so different. Septa is cleaner and runs quieter however Mta is faster on is on time more.
@selx13 SEPTA is way faster than MTA on both MFL and BSS. BSS Kawasaki B-IV are capable of reaching speeds of 70MPH (Maybe 80 based on rumors) and MFL ADtranz M4's are capable of speed of up to 60MPH even though they are capped at 55. And most trains on the MTA even express are running at 35-45MPH
Sort of meaningless... all 3 are old systems & each has good and bad points. You did not include subway portions of SEPTA's and MBTA's light rail which run in tunnels downtown & aboveground outside downtown. All 3 systems have done a great deal of work to upgrade rolling stock & stations in recent years. Boston and Philadelphia are much smaller than NYC so their subways are as well. MBTA is cleanest & most handicapped accessible. MTA is 24 hours. MTA and SEPTA have express and locals.

why do they have the wrong headlights on on most of them!? they have the red ones, those are for the tail end, NOT the front end

Mbta because of all the reason for delays we have. From snow to the time on some of them.

@WinUser04 well i meant the heavy rail as subway... that is light rail and that is not really a subway but more of a metrorail.
