I think it's probably a matter of disclosure. If you're doing paid promotion, it should be clear it's a paid promotion. Other than that, I've got no problem.
I have tried to get started with my channel, but it's not happening. I haven't been able to make a commentary yet, but i hope i get one made soon. Hey Colin, I strive to be an engineer like you (not necessarily because of you), I'm a junior in highschool and taking an AP Calculus BC class (calc 1 and part of 2). I always make A+ grades in math, but I'm worried about what class I will take next year as I am given the option to take Calc 3. Advice?
@ZombieproSpencer The more you can take in the way of AP math, sciences, and computer science, the easier your entry into University Engineering will be. I only had the option to take one calculus class in High School, and it took a bit in order to grasp first year advanced calculus my first year. My advice would be that it can't hurt!
@ZombieproSpencer As a freshman in College, and someone who took Cal 1&2 during my high school years, I would say go for it. If you can get Cal 3 out of the way during high school, that will be a huge plus, especially for your first semester of college. I personally had trouble my first semester with Cal 3, as I had loaded up my schedule. Just make your first semester an easy load for adjustment purposes, and you will be fantastic. Getting all of your Cal out of the way early is huge.

I think certain platforms we accept as businesses. TV, by this point, we think of as a business. However, gaming videos on the internet still have the feel of community, so we dont like money
i think Colin should start like a radio show for like an hour or so, cause you sir have a voice for radio, you can like try to sit down and talk with people from dice and it would be a great way for people to get there BF3 and DCRUColin fix, and its good for dice cause you have real fans talking about real problems and all that
Great video Colin really enjoyed it, personally I find in a nice change of pace to see people play things other than COD/Minecraft so many people playing the same game the same way can get boring, its why I like watching NGT and your channel you give me diversity in what I watch, not many people are posting 18 minute vids that I can watch (ons1augh7 being one of the few others)
Hey Colin, good analysis of the whole YT set up. Just a quick question. Do you think the Aiming mechanics of the PS3 version are flawed. I find it so much harder to get the kills in BF3 compared to maybe hitting 60+ in BFBC2.
@Redmondo79 Yes, something is messed up with aiming on PS3. I have heard that if you turn your resolution down and plan in standard def it goes away. I believe this is something that DICE is looking into. I was playing in 720p and had lots of problems getting on target.
@oplim77 Colin thanks for your observation on this!!!!! Its been driving me crazy not being able to target. Ive read about the resolution drop fix. Ill give that a try and see what difference it makes. Ive turned of aim assist etc and all picture enhancements on the TV have been turned of so I hope there is a fix real soon. Even looking at the post game scoreboards, there aren't uber high KD ratios. Cheers.
@Redmondo79 i got used to it and now its really easy to get the crazy sprays and whatnot, try to think of it as ur sensitivity doesnt slow down when u ads thats all, once u get passed that its easy.

Passion for what they are putting up on youtube = many views
Putting videos up for the money = Less views.
As a subscriber you choose channels that you enjoy watching whether or not they are making money of it or not.
If you have a passion for it I don't mind if you make money for it or not. But I see that it can be a carrot on a stick for them who don't know if they want to continue or not.
Channels like Woody's and Wings' are made of complete garbage - Wings actually posts videos from time to time bullying and insulting specific players he runs across, and Woody just posts unimaginative viewbait shit.
Wouldn't be surprised if he took down the video, but WoR had an old video where he said that anyone that has less than a 2.0KD in MW2 was "lunch meat."
@PlagueInjected That's the very reason I stay away from WoR. He's quite possibly the most vile game commentator on youtube. Why he's so popular is beyond my comphrension. Don't really know this Woody bloke though.... by all accounts he should be ignored.

People like the Yogscast are total view whores and put their videos in the entertainment section just so it shows up in the most favorited section so every one sees them every day. The reason that the gaming section of the most favorited was removed was because Whiteboy7thst begged his fans for a fav so always in the gaming section was spammed with his videos.
I gave it a thumbs up, but I don't care for this type of political commentary. My idea of browsing YouTube on my free time doesn't include hearing about the politics of channels and people I've never even met. Just want to see some gameplay and strategy.

I disagree with people saying "kid" with the guy in the recent incident. He's a teenager. Any teen that gets the money for that sort of an investment knows the effort it took to get. Sure its a gamble, but if the stuff is good, he could easily get a good jump start because of his decision. If not, live and learn. He can only improve his content, or use the bad choice as experience later on in life.
me personally at first I was pretty mad at woody when I heard about the whole situation but my friend did make the point that the person payed the money in the first place so I have to completely agree that youtube is now a business and thats just how it is. I think people need to understand that work effort= success and its not just going to fall into their lap.

I respect you Colin, but giving advice to kids is completely different than selling them advertising space for what most 17 years would consider a large sum of money. With a channel that large, other options are available.
I know XJaws and whiteboy7thst have blown up and are doing well. I don't know how many others have. It's crazy how far things have come and how much money is involved. First person I watched on utube was wings of redemption, he can be a ass but he's always kept it real. I think there are a lot of underrated commentators out there. Onslaught is pretty good, I enjoy watching his road to commander series.

In the real world marketing and advertising is a huge business expense, YouTube is no different. If 500$ is the market value for a shout out , then that channel owner may find that $ well spent. It's just like that with those Super Bowl commercials, 1 million $ for 1 thirty sec. commercial. The market will determine the price.
@TheHazardBE in the off chance that this kid had a partnered channel, the number of subs that he would get from the shoutout would equate to greater income that would surpass the 500 spent, so really its not that big a deal, especialy since the kid came to him he didnt make a video saying "$500 for a shoutout" (did he?)
Colin some people are attracted to just real people, I don't like any of the "famous" people, cause I can smell the shit behind an individual who is using my view for a profit. And I don't like smelling shit. Most of us are "nerds" and there's no stigma attached to that. Hard working people who enjoy an IT related job and games and real "entertainers". I'm on this channel cause I feel like you a real individual.
Colin, I've been watching your videos since the Vietnam release. I can't remember who shouted you it. I think it was TheTrout91. Regardless, ever since you've been one of my favorite youtubers. I watch your vids every time I see them, I don't even watch trout's anymore because it's all cookie cutter CoD videos. That's just not my preference. I respect that you stick with BF3 because YOU want to play it even if it keeps your channel small. Keep it up dude, you're doing a fantastic job.

Also, since you're an engineer; I am currently about to make the desition of what to study at university. Great video Colin really enjoyed it, personally I find in a nice change of pace to see people play things other than COD/Minecraft so many people playing the same game the same way can get boring, its why I like watching NGT and your channel you give me diversity in what I watch, not many people are posting 18 minute vids that I can watch (ons1augh7 being one of the few others)

Hey Colin, good analysis of the whole YT set up. Just a quick question. Do you think the Aiming mechanics of the PS3 version are flawed. I find it so much harder to get the kills in BF3 compared to maybe hitting 60+ in BFBC2.

@Redmondo79 Yes, something is messed up with aiming on PS3. I have heard that if you turn your resolution down and plan in standard def it goes away. I believe this is something that DICE is looking into. I was playing in 720p and had lots of problems getting on target.

@oplim77 Colin thanks for your observation on this!!!!! Its been driving me crazy not being able to target. Ive read about the resolution drop fix. Ill give that a try and see what difference it makes. Ive turned of aim assist etc and all picture enhancements on the TV have been turned of so I hope there is a fix real soon. Even looking at the post game scoreboards, there aren't uber high KD ratios. Cheers.

@Redmondo79 i got used to it and now its really easy to get the crazy sprays and whatnot, try to think of it as ur sensitivity doesnt slow down when u ads thats all, once u get passed that its easy.

Passion for what they are putting up on youtube = many views
Putting videos up for the money = Less views.
As a subscriber you choose channels that you enjoy watching whether or not they are making money of it or not.
If you have a passion for it I don't mind if you make money for it or not. But I see that it can be a carrot on a stick for them who don't know if they want to continue or not.

People like the Yogscast are total view whores and put their videos in the entertainment section just so it shows up in the most favorited section so every one sees them every day. The reason that the gaming section of the most favorited was removed was because Whiteboy7thst begged his fans for a fav so always in the gaming section was spammed with his videos.

I disagree with people saying "kid" with the guy in the recent incident. He's a teenager. Any teen that gets the money for that sort of an investment knows the effort it took to get. Sure its a gamble, but if the stuff is good, he could easily get a good jump start because of his decision. If not, live and learn. He can only improve his content, or use the bad choice as experience later on in life.

me personally at first I was pretty mad at woody when I heard about the whole situation but my friend did make the point that the person payed the money in the first place so I have to completely agree that youtube is now a business and thats just how it is. I think people need to understand that work effort= success and its not just going to fall into their lap.

I know XJaws and whiteboy7thst have blown up and are doing well. I don't know how many others have. It's crazy how far things have come and how much money is involved. First person I watched on utube was wings of redemption, he can be a ass but he's always kept it real. I think there are a lot of underrated commentators out there. Onslaught is pretty good, I enjoy watching his road to commander series.

In the real world marketing and advertising is a huge business expense, YouTube is no different. If 500$ is the market value for a shout out , then that channel owner may find that $ well spent. It's just like that with those Super Bowl commercials, 1 million $ for 1 thirty sec. commercial. The market will determine the price.

@TheHazardBE in the off chance that this kid had a partnered channel, the number of subs that he would get from the shoutout would equate to greater income that would surpass the 500 spent, so really its not that big a deal, especialy since the kid came to him he didnt make a video saying "$500 for a shoutout" (did he?)

Colin some people are attracted to just real people, I don't like any of the "famous" people, cause I can smell the shit behind an individual who is using my view for a profit. Colin, I've been watching your videos since the Vietnam release. I can't remember who shouted you it. I think it was TheTrout91. Regardless, ever since you've been one of my favorite youtubers. I watch your vids every time I see them, I don't even watch trout's anymore because it's all cookie cutter CoD videos. That's just not my preference. I respect that you stick with BF3 because YOU want to play it even if it keeps your channel small. Keep it up dude, you're doing a fantastic job.

Also, since you're an engineer; I am currently about to make the desition of what to study at university.
