Fair enough call...the QB was clearly going out of bounds, and Pegues didn't need to throw that hit. It could've gone both ways, and this time like most times they PROTECTED THE QB. quit crying you babies.
@TheBulldawg4life So he should just let the QB pick up the extra yard or two and the first down as long as the QB is going out of bounds? That rational makes no sense at all. If the QB wants to run like a HB he should expect to get hit like a HB case closed.
@killerfurball The QB picked up the 1st down anyways..the hit changed nothing. Believe me, as a former MLB myself I would take every chance I got to beat a QB to pulp..but I also knew that I'd get called for a hit like this. The hit itself was clean, it was just the timing and location that got called.
It goes both ways, you never want YOUR QB to get hit then..but you also never want that to get called when it's your player making the hit.
@TheBulldawg4life Him having the first down is questionable actually. The ball would have to be measured to have even determined that, He was probably short. The difference here is it was called a "late hit" when there was nothing late about it. If you want to say "roughing the QB" you have more of a leg to stand on. But then again, this wouldn't have even been called had it been any other running position. If the QB wants to cross the line and run it he should deal with the consequences
@TheBulldawg4life and the coaches should stop hiding behind this crusade of "we gotta protect the QB". If you don't want him to get hit like this then don't run him, tell him to slide, or just throw the ball out of bounds. The QB already has enough tools to avoid hits like this. It's insane that the NCAA feels the need to give him more without giving the same position that do the same stuff (running) any added protection.
@killerfurball you didn't play football did you? even on the HS level a linebacker can destroy a QB's life hitting him the wrong way..QB's wear less pads than kickers, have more to do than everyone else on the field, and have to do this all while being attacked by guys weighing 100+ pounds more than them.
QB's run on naked boots like this, on broken plays, and when they see a first down marker they can reach.
RB's wear proper padding to take a hit, they know how to run to avoid getting detroyed
@TheBulldawg4life OLB and HB, but thanks for trying. Less pads then kickers? Yeah sure I will believe that when they stop making those vests that cover the midsection of the QB. They wear shoulder pads like that of a HB, and unlike a kicker have knee padding. WR's and HB's probably take more punishment per game then a QB even accounting for sacks.
@killerfurball and they're used to the punishment of taking a hit or making a block every play.
Playing QB is extremely demanding, mentally and physically, and that's before you get hit by someone who weighs as much or more than you running at 20 MPH who is trying to break you in half.
Protecting the QB is vital to football, more so than any other position. I hate it just as much as the next guy..but I understand it and completely agree with it.
@TheBulldawg4life I'm not against protection of the QB, just the excesses it is bringing. Once again I remind you the QB has the option to slide to avoid a hit and if hit while sliding it should be a penalty. But it quite honestly is getting to the point where the QB can disregard these options and get the other team in trouble, that is bogus and you know it. Why should a LB be penalized because the QB brought on the hit?
@killerfurball If this was the middle of the field the QB would've gotten destroyed and they wouldn't throw a flag..the thing is it was at the sideline, with the QB pulling up and going out of bounds.
Ya it's excessive (I personally feel no one should be protected if you're wearing a helmet) sometimes but it makes sense. QB's make the money, get the trophies, and look the prettiest..it may be football, but it's still a beauty contest.
Once again, the refs have decided that the shoulder is the same as the head. Apparently they learn a different version of anatomy than the rest of us.
in maybe 10-20 years from now, refs will be obsolete and most calls will be called by techincians watching replays...but than again, Vegas won't be able to rigg the games anymore...lol!
and the ref was right on top of it!! i mean was he making up for a mistake he made earlier cuz they are known to do that. we need to like thoroughly train refs so they don't screw up like this! terrible call!
yea im a UK fan but that is a terrible call but if you look at the head of the officiating crew that day, he seems to be in a lot of the bad calls in the SEC
look this is the issue i have with refs, esp. the ones in the sec...the are to friggin old and fat...they have slow reactions and can keep up with the speed of the game. need younger refs and less flags.
YEah...that ref expected flag football apparently! sec REFS ARE TOO FLAG HAPPY BUT AT LEAST THEY CALL PENALTIES...ACC refs are the worst...NOTHING constitutes a personaly foul!
Choeck out the Brandon Cox double cheap shot that was flagged but the penalty was flipped and called on AU just to set up GT....not to mention 3 or 4 VERY late hits COx took in that game.
example of who espn wants to win, have you noticed that? whoever espn anyalists are pulling for, the refs will try to make it go to there side. i have been following college football for a number of years and i notice this on big games.
strongsock Hailstate plays the position that requires for him to tear your fucking ass apart. dumbass cock sucker. btw GO STATE!!! bring on LA Tech. they suck anyways
hey rondo if the refs would have made the right call kentucky wouldnt have scored on that drive... and yes they did score on that drive i remember watchin it.

@killerfurball That should also be WR and not HB, QB pads are more akin to a WR's pads

I agree the call was nuts. Both teams are SEC teams so I don't understand if this is a rant supposed to be about bad calls or SEC refs being bias.
