tasosk3 is right; "L'Oiseau et l'Enfant" was a deserving winner; a really classy song (although some years later Marie was, I think, quoted as saying she got fed up with singing it all the time after she won!) Apparently the reason Marie was late coming on stage for the reprise was because the BBC cameraman filming her triumphant progress from the 'green room' fell over (he was of course walking backwards to film her) and she tried to administer first aid!
Info: Marie's birth name was Miriam Lopes and she was born in Portugal. Indeed, I too hope France will get to bridge what is already more than a 30-year gap between winning moments like these. Btw; the UK actually stood at 121 points at the end of the voting, which makes it fortunate that France had such a lead; otherwise there would have been some major confusion. Most recently Marie appeared at the Congratulations special and wrote the French intro to the official ESC history book.
the most beautiful eurovision song ever.

Eurovision has lost all dignity now, its full of east european peasants and clowns!
