CBS Evening News history: Douglas Edwards (1950-1962), Walter Cronkite (1962-1981), Dan Rather (1981-2005), Bob Schieffer (2005-2006), Katie Couric (2006-2011), Scott Pelley (2011-present). Walter Cronkite, television's greatest news anchor. Douglas Edwards, television's original news anchor. Both pioneers in their own right.
That's the way it was. Real news broadcasters such as Walter Cronkite, Harry Reasoner, Howard K. Smith, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley. The introduction of Baba Wawa for the purpose of winning popularity contests was probably the beginning of the end of that wonderful era.
What a class act.No fancy graphics,no wow visuals just the news and nothing but.You see Walter was a journlist and not a news reader and worth listing to.
Ah yes, the good old days. Back when news casters and news programs were exactly that. Back when they focused on the profession with visible dignity. Now... turn on any "news" channel - CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, etc. Almost all the newscasters are under 35, *look* very good, are not articulate, are almost never relevant. You could almost interchange the women on the job with porn pieces. And the content....
Why does everyone give this fraud so many free passes. Recent revelations only CONFIRM what a biased non-professional he became. Look, we all love Uncle Walter and when he was good he was really good, but there is no question he crossed the line into non-objectivity and his legacy will be forever compromised for it.
