But extol are not the only band to play thrash and have vocals like this. Believer for example have very similar vocals. If you don't know them I suggest you check them out, their Dimensions and Sanity Obscure albums are great!

Undecieved is brilliant, and that the vocalist has 3 to 4 different vocal styles is amazing, and yes-they can be very "Thrash" but with a Nordic Death Metal sensibility, these guys were ahead of thheir time. But most should look at the "date" when this album was released and how long they had been together before they sadly changed then broke up :( Though their new band "Mantric" is really good but more Prog overones :)

extols skills arent in the MAB or Kirk hammett style guitar licks...its more in the time signature and syncopation of the riffs...and trust me its harder to play a bunch of power chords in 9/16 then play a sweeped minor chord in 4/4...

for those not good with music 9/16 means that there are 9 beats per measure and the 16th note gets the beat...try counting that....

No. It does not depend on that. The time signature tells you how it is syncopated.

@Vebable 9/16 is a compound triple meter. That means that it's subdivided into 3 groups of 3. The only difference is that the 16th note gets the beat. Also, time signatures do not syncopate themselves. If the song is syncopated in a certain way, the score will have it written as such. i.e. '4+5'

@gibsonfan3 you obviously havent studied music. You should not try teach others when you lack the basics yourself. There are strict rules for how to stress the phrase in different time signatures. The syncopations comes from the sub-divisions and phrasing. Those are indicated by time signature. For different effect you would write different time signatures. 4/4 should sound different from 8/8. 3/4 different from 9/8 or 9/12. Your computer might not see the difference, but a musician will.

It seems a lot of people don't like this album, although I find it to be genius. Each album is a different style, but the best one in my opinion is "Undeceived." That one is a masterpiece.

Musically speaking, the non-standard timing, syncopation, and sheer musicianship displayed here (particularly the drums and lead guitars) are like nothing else I've heard in the Christian realm. For that, I salute Extol.

I ADORE Extol, but this side of them isn't very good. They really got a lot better at this modern screamo style with "The Blueprint Dives." Burial and Undecieved were really original and creative death/thrash albums, brilliant stuff. I hope this band comes back with something better than this.
