  • Willie for President

  • OK, but around that time, Willie could make a hit with anybody--just himself, or Waylon or Haggard or Ray Price, or Roger Miller, or Faron...or Julio Iglesias! And all those people seemed to want to sing with him, whatever his vocal quirks might have been.

  • goddamn hes butchering th song, plus hes flat

  • I don't care if Willie wrote it or not, why on earth would they let him ruin it when one of the greatest voices from music's greatest generation is standing right there?! Ugh, leave it to the pros Willie. I mean that'd be like letting him sing the middle of Crazy with Patsy on stage! He's one hell of a writer, but can't carry a tune in a bucket. Truly great to see these old Hee Haw episodes (we dont get CMT or RFD Tv here and CFR wants $119 for only TEN episodes ), a million thanks for sharing!!

  • @riv4life618

I got news for you Charlie. The reason they were on TV was because Willie, not Faron, was singing.

At the time, Willie Nelson was the hottest thing in country music and Faron Young did not have a record deal. Willie invited Faron to join him and they made a whole album for Columbia out of it.

  • @highnrising EXACTLY!!! Willie was the hottest thing at that time and that's when Country Music started it's downward spiral! Hence why TAYLOR SWIFT is the hottest thing in "Country" Music today, yet she isn't Country and more importantly CAN"T sing! It's a total joke!!! Thank you Willie Nelson!!! And btw, Faron was doing WILLIE a favor. He may have been bigger at that time, but it not for real singers like ol Faron and Patsy Willie wouldn't a been up their at all.

  • I love you Willie Nelson.

  • How true this song is

  • I ate at Faron's Steakhouse in Nashville. It was on the second floor, he was there and the experience was overwhelming for a twenty five year old Country Western loving hippe, living out of his girlfriend's VW Campmobile. Thirty two years later I'm still living with the hippie chick and my boys are grown and gone. All I have left is Youtube, memories and any cool stuff that might happen today, tomorrow or manana, manana (whenever/whatever), dude.

  • I could listen to them all night long. I will never tire of Willie's style... this music just carries you away...

  • Faron eventually had failing health, etc. and shot himself to death

  • Willie wrote that song

  • What a different face Willie!

  • WONDERFUL WONDERFUL

  • faron was a great singer willy was a good song writer with a horable voice but love the song

  • What a great blast from the past. Thanks to Leigh for sending me this link. So glad he did. Nothing like the old country this new stuff is just noise with about 5 or 6 words repeated over and over again. Thanks for the great post.

  • Faron had the better singing voice, but Willie brought the passion to this song

  • im a huge Willie fan prob.one of th most loyal, but if i were Willie i wouldnt let Faron put his lips on any of my songs.he cant sing

  • Interesting moment in Musical History... Faron is actually a bigger name than Willie at this moment, outside of Nashville... but outside of Nashville, at this moment, C&W is barely a blip on Billboard's radar... that's how out of touch Billboard was, at the time...

Willie is only moments away from having enough of the Nashville political game: Off to Austin, soon, to create something entirely different.

(IMO, Willie's masterpiece, by the way, the miraculous "Crazy" notwithstanding.)

  • Faron was a friend of my father's I remember meeting him when I was about 10 at a place called the silver stallion in so/cal, my dad took me to the show, and after on his bus I got to shake his hand. Willie, had a place in Evergreen Colorado where I went to high school, His daughter Paula was in the Same class as my Sister. So this is a neat vidio, these two very talented men who I have interesting memories of.

  • What a pair of fabulous old posers - great presentation, great sound and so easy on the mind. Never get tired of this stuff. Graham Melb Aus

  • I almost didn't recognize Wiliie. What a writer and performer.

  • Faron Young is the Epitome of a country voice. Just listen to Hello Walls, It's four in the mornin or Going Steady. I love all the great voices, but in my opinion, his is the best.

  • Trigger[the guitar ] is a 1969 N 20 martin guitar with a baldwin prismatone pickup and played thru a baldwin prismatone amp.Oh its a gut string [nylon] string guitar.

  • @wvfeatheredfriends2 Obviously Faron was kidding him. With all of Willie's talent, he had trouble making it as a singer in the 60's and early 70's. If it weren't for stars like Faron Young and Patsy Cline recording his music and making them classics, Willie might never had enjoyed the success he did.

  • @wvfeatheredfriends2 ------Someone removed your sense of humor. They were friends. He was jokin. Lightin up !

  • What year was this?

  • Love it, couldn't get any better.

  • took the drummer a while to figure out what he was going to do. My granddad taught Johnny Loudermilk how to play guitar. But Willie wrote this one.

  • took the drummer a while to figure out what he was going to do.

  • Trigger already had a hole worn in it even back then... Was what, a 16 year old guitar at the time? I love this performance, thank you...

  • it doesn't get any better than this ...and I'm a NYC boy !

  • You fixed so it can not be downloaded......I won`t watch your stuff.

  • @steamboat6161 Oh Boohoo

  • Thanks for posting this treasure.

  • GREAT VIDEO!! THANKYOU FOR POSTING IT!

  • John Loudermilk wrote classic.

  • Wow What a Classic

  • I grew up on these two starting in the very early 60's and have never tired of that great sound. I have only grown to love this music more and more with each passing year. Although Faron is gone his music will live forever. May God Bless and be with both of you.

  • Faron the greatest ever.

  • what I like best is how willie sang this song for a old friend at a special they did .And the look on his face was awesome .That is how I like to remember faron .Not the suicide. What a great duet and song .

  • this song is for my frend.. INDIAN...RMV.REST IN PEACE MY FREND

  • Thirty years have slipped away since this film was made.... great song, written by Willie Nelson. Tremendous video of these two together. Thanks very much for posting!

  • Two great versions of this great song.....I like Wille's take a little better....it hurts more!

  • gee MY how time slips away so sorry so soon

  • Faron was pissed at Nashville... stuck a pistol in his mouth and kissed it all goodby!

  • Great performance by both singers. It saddens me that Faron suicided in 1996.

  • I was also very schocked as I read, that he suicided, because of his illness. Two great singers.

  • Is Faron drunk?

  • @llgaddy HAHA WTF?

  • Back in them day's man, They were all drunk or stoned..

  • willie was in kc a few yrs ago and did not respond to my invite to stop by the only diesel fuel injection shop in blue springs mo. guess i will have to go where he is...eh...like branson....that worked out for the man...

  • bummer man, you got biodiesel? Try again, I bet he'd drop by.

  • This has to be about the time Willies career as a singer started to take off, (late 70's) He was just starting to develop his "outlaw" persona. I'll bet he hasn't had a haircut since before this video, the bandana moved from the neck to around the head, guitar seems to still have a gloss on top, no beard yet... I would love to see more Willie videos from around this time. This has to be about the time the "Redheaded Stranger" album came out. GREAT ALBUM!

  • You can't beat the '70's early '80's for the the feathered-10 gallon hat look. But these two are just awesome together.

...I love you Willie Nelson and Faron Young.

  • This was back when both singers were on top of their game!

  • ...not sure about Faron but Willie never left the top of his game, just keeps getting better! Gotta love The Red-Headed Stranger!! You just gotta... that's the way it is, the way it always has been, the way it always will be.

  • Awesome.... I love this old stuff.

  • Love the HATS! ROFLMAO!!!!

  • Willie always stuck by the guys who got him started. Sheriff (Faron), Ray Price, Ernest Tubb,

etc. Faron is right up there with the giants, he

felt country music forgot about him and had a drinking problem, and killed himself. Looks like early 80's to me also.

  • from the "Faron Young's Biggest Hats" album I'm guessing

  • Faron...one of the very best voices ever in country music.

  • Seems like in country music, the magic is how they just never REALLY change!!! wooo hoooo

  • cool, my names faron

  • "I love you Willie Nelson."

    Buzz

  • This is just AWESOME

  • thats hot

  • Where'd his beard go?! LOL

  • Awesome, thanks

  • THis must have been when they did their album together, sometime in the mid-late '80s...excellent!

  • It was 1985. I have it as part of the Hee Haw Collection.

  • The cool thing about Willie is he did these records with Faron and Ray Price and Hank Snow and Roger Miller back when Willie was not top and those other great singers were considered washed up and couldn't get record deals on their own. But Willie would still let the other guys open the song and take the best verses. That's why Faron loves him.

  • Let's not forget the albums he did with Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings & Kris Kristofferson. They were all great albums especially when Willie's singing and playing on them.

  • Interesting

  • i don't know if i agree with everything you are saying here.i think at this time hank snow was probably near the end of his career. but ray, faron, roger all were big names and had influence with what they recorded.but, now days nashvegas just plain sucks .

from faron's hat, i think this is sometime in the early 80's.

  • it's gotta be in the later 70s. look at Willie Nelson...and Faron Young isn't as big as he was around the 80s. but i could be wrong. plus...that host who introduces them...his hair is really 70s...but you could still be right. God...i can't sleep.

  • the feathers on the front of Faron"s hat t`ells me it was the early eighties. it was the style then.because of the urban cowboy craze then.

  • i see. cool. it's a bad look though. good thing he reinvented his image ev'ry now and then...you knwo that green cowboy suit? it's beautiful. but i wasn't thinking of the urban cowboy thing...just his belly and Willie Nelson's look.

  • Anyone know when this aired? And THANKS for post it. Willie (and Jody and Grady, etc.) rules.

  • I think it was on the crook and chase show in 88 or 89... Faron is the best!!!!

  • I agree country music has gone to he**... New COUNTRY is just loud noise!!!!!

  • today's country music is rock n roll with cowboy boots,

  • How did country music go from this to Garth Brooks swinging on ropes?

  • Garth Brooks hit the strings on a guitar and swung on a rope while wearing a cowboy hat.

  • When Tarzan came to town?

  • Grady Martin on Guitar. One of the finest guitarists who ever lived.

  • you know your pickers!

  • Man! Willie looks really handsome. Kinda shocking to see what hides behind the fuzzy chin.

  • Dope smokin' hippy band. Faron and Willie are thinking, "Where the heck are the musicians who actually know the chords to this song?"

  • so , who in heck is chris ...

  • so country, so simple, like life should be

  • WTF are you talking about,, it's a song talking about how memories fade over time and and thing's change. I never heard any reference to Chris?

  • "God gave us music that we might pray without words."

  • As mentioned in Lefty Frizzell's biography by Daniel Cooper(good book btw), apparently Willie Nelson hunted down Faron Young in a Nashville bar after "Hello Walls" hit #1 and kissed it square on the mouth. Watching the "Hello Walls" video just now, I think Willie might have enjoyed that. Faron was a fine looking young man in the 60's. Hey, I'm very heterosexual but he even gets my heart thumpin.

  • Don't worry about it. I've seen Hell's Angels kiss on the mouth. (Not a french kiss but a "family" kiss. It's a declaration of respect but also a statement of confidence in their manhood. It means, "You're my brother. You are family."

  • Willie and Faron Young - I dont get this close to God in church!

  • :.) Thanks ImOne3

  • Man Willie Nelson looks so smooth when he shaves. What a smooth guy.

  • r you gay?

  • Nope. Just never seen willie without his beard. Looks smooth. God Bless

  • good one.... yeah it is funny how time slips away.....bdett

  • Faron was a big help to Willie in the early days, and Willie never forgot it. To hear that fabulous delivery by Faron - don't get much better than that.

  • Ain't it great that Willie actually looks good here? LOL. I love to hear Willie sing - he can make any song sound great He and Faron make a good team - yes, Faron was a very humble person and even when he cut up he was never rude or unpleasant . Miss him so much.

    -Paula

  • what a pair..Love these's Guys..To bad they didn't see what a Great Singer Faron was..Of Course if I was Givin out awards..He would of got them all..I met Faron and he was Just as sweet as sweet can be..Very Humble..I miss you.

  • God bless Texas, Willie, and Faron.

  • Faron was such a warm and lovable guy..notice at the end he said," I love you Willie Nelson." I love you Faron Young!

  • AWESOME

  • Fabulous, thanks for placing this on youtube.

  • What a pair!! Willie's words and Faron's voice. It just don't get much better than that.

  • Great cut. I wish the cameramen had shown some of Willie's guitar playing, too, instead of zooming all the way in on him.

  • Cool...thanks for posting...check their album also...
