  • The green arrows here in Canada are shown before the green yield on green lights. :D

  • Yes, the red light at 0:38 to 0:42 is very strange. But also the one before it, with the green arrows present. Like in Boston at select intersections back in the 1980s & 90s (hope they're fixed!). Then the green spot showing after the green arrows in all directions go out.

  • Kashiwa ?

  • komische Ampel strange traffic lights

  • 0:30 nissan skyline r32 !

  • If I rented a car in Japan, I prolly crash already.

  • Why did it have a green left arrow? Does that mean there's no pedestrians in the left crosswalk or something?

  • @waterskippers My guess is that since in Japan, the way of the road is the opposite of how we drive in the United States, that the traffic lights work backwards too, that is, the left green arrow works the same way as a right green arrow would for us.

  • The Japanese language, for some reason, doesn't really differentiate between the colors green and blue - which is one thing that this video points out, since it says that the green light is called "blue" in Japanese.

  • that's how you do god mode in super mario borthers

  • did you guys see the skyline ?

  • @christos200 yeap great machine but its old its from the firts gtr editions

  • That's easy, took me a sec to figure it out. That light with the green arrows and red light, that's an advance green, it means that you can turn or go straight safely before the oncoming traffic light turns green.

  • you where right :D:D this is crazy.

  • The red light means that opposite traffic also has a red light.

Now what I'd do if it was up to me, but there you go.

  • It took me a minute to figure out why the red light remains on when you have a green arrow in all directions. But it makes sense. The red indicates it's a protected light, meaning oncoming traffic has a solid red (no arrows) so you can make a right turn. In some parts of Canada they use a flashing green light to indicate you have the right of way (opposing traffic has a red light). Some parts of Canada have flashing green at crosswalks so it doesn't always mean oncoming traffic is stopped.

  • @whataguydave Surely it could still be simpler. The arrows alone could be enough to tell drivers that no other traffic should be crossing your path; the red light is redundant.

  • It's actually pretty simple. Having a green arrow means you can cross the intersection without having to cross traffic comming from the other direction. You do have to yield at ped's and cyclists.

  • By European traffic standards if you have a white arrow that does not bend to the left, your not allowed to go left. Yet the traffic light indicate that you can turn to the left. So yeah... this trafic situation does not realy make any sense to me.

  • @bakasheru

Eigenlijk, als je goed kijkt zie je dat er een onderbordje is dat zegt dat de verplichting enkel betrekking heeft op Vrachtwagens en bussen. Personenwagens mogen hier dus perfect linksaf.

  • Địt mẹ ghê vãi lìn ra.

  • it does make some sense but i dont drive so i cant say fro sure lol

  • lol stupid japanese

  • Signal looks understandable. Seems rather well thought out to me. The Japanese are pretty smart. Look at how they build cars. Hondas last forever. Perhaps they are too smart for dumb people. Regarding green arrows, I have seen both left and right arrows shown both before and after a plain green light. There's no law to it. It all depends on the intersection.

  • Et hop deux ponts de moins sut dotre lol

  • i understood the light perfectly fine after watching it once. i dont see how this is confusing for alot of people. maybe if yall graduated or actually use ur brains then this wouldnt be so confusing for everyone

  • haha that's true

  • yes indeed graduating increases your observation skills..... just curious, does thinking everybody else is stupid make you feel smart or something??

  • no it doesnt make me feel smarter unfortunately, i just dont see how everybody says this is so confusing. its actually a pretty straight forward light if u paid attention. now if it WAS really complicated and i understood it right away, then i probably would still call everybody dumb to make myself feel smart^^ lol jkjk

  • I'm not discussing weather this is complicated or not, I'm talking about this "maybe if yall graduated or actually use ur brains then this wouldnt be so confusing"....if you don't think that's insulting then you are.......well I think you know xD

  • my bad if i insulted u or anybody else. i threw "or actually use ur brains" because i didnt graduate myself and didnt want to insult those who didnt graduate do to reasons they couldnt control like myself. so for all yall out there that read my post and was insulted.... get over yourself. its just freakin words and just bc i say ur dumb doesnt actually mean ur dumb. u can be the judge of that urself

  • I was just curious about the logics of your train of thought....if there is any place for logic at all in that kind of reasoning...never you mind though xD

  • ok that's confusing it said u can turn left go straight an turn right then at top says red or yellow an yellow i think then green??? wtf? who going an who's not!

  • ...oh, the japanese.....

    <3

  • This is rare case.

Many of japanese signals are simple.

  • that confused me too! :p

  • its like an advanced green for all directions meaning that everyone else has a red light kind of garentees that you wont get hit and if you do its not your fault

  • Ooops, sure some will claim "I dont understand French".

That's obvious by all comments made until now, nobody read the text included.

It's much more about the RED light shown at 0:38 to 0:42 than the Xmas tree.

Those pretending to have any knowledge about Japan are especially funny, if in Japan observe better and you will discover that reality often doesn't match rule you cite.

As a last remark, usually green arrows are shown AFTER a green light.

  • arrows pointing all directions are shown when the signals for oncoming traffic are red.

this kind of traffic lights are found in non perpendicular (or, weirdly shaped) intersections in the city (esp. Tokyo&Osaka), to let better flow of traffic.

you can find this this kind of signals in many places among Yamanote St., Kanpachi St., Kannana St., Setagaya St., R246, etc and is not rare.

Green arrows after a green light is common, but they are usually right turning arrow.

  • in latvia the green arrows still don't give you a right of way, you still have to yield for oncoming traffic and pedestrians!

i got my license in sweden, so it took a while to even figure out there was a difference (in sweden the green arrows give a right of way)...

  • It would've been funny if that guy on the motorcycle would've stuck his hand out and clothes-lined that guy that came flying by.

  • The extra red light merely informs the drivers facing it that the vehicles on the other side of the divider, traveling the opposite direction, have a red light and won't be moving. I'd be the last person to agree with the way the Japanese manage traffic, especially regarding cost and efficiency, but there IS a system and logic behind it.

  • Red is stop, as usual

Red with all the arrows is go straight and turn protected

    Yellow is... yellow

    Green is... green

  • saw a nissan skyline lol

  • i bet that's rare in Japan.

  • When The Arrows are comming up, it shows the drivers that the road(s) are clear, but the red light is the main light... so when this turns green...The drivers that are going left and right, got other traffic to yield for!!!!!!

  • Unsure if this is correct but this is what I think the traffic light means

Maybe the stop light remains in place to warn them to yield/give way to traffic coming from their right but can go if it's safe.

The reason I said that because if you noticed the traffic on otherside didn't go til the redlight disappeared.

  • It means that the oncoming traffic still has a red light. In some parts of Japan, you don't get a full green, unless the oncoming traffic are getting shown the same.

In most of the world, however, including here in the UK, the green arrow pointing right is usually enough to tell people that oncoming traffic has a red light.

  • Fight it!

  • Are you going to fight it?

    できるか?

What is that red + 3 arrows supposed to mean?

I haven't seen that here yet.
