I started practicing aikido about seven months ago and i can tell you that the technique he does on 1:55 is a shihonage and the two after that, are kotegaeshi. They both are basic techniques, two of the first i learned.

Their is no border lines between martial arts, kotegaishi and shihonage are just efficient moves they are not the property of Aikido. I've seen shihonage in many demonstrations (Karate, BJJ, kungfu ...)

Umm, it's abit of both duh?? It's a non specific japanese style.

The sparring they did at the beginning is alot more closer to karate style sparring. If it had been an aikido style "sparring" they wouldn't continue attacking/blocking each other but instead as soon one person attacks, they would parry/intercept the attack and go into a lock or throw.

Aikido is used in the later scenes.

Ah, Toshihiro Obata. I first saw him the TMNT movie from the 90's and later in shodown in little Tokyo and later in a few other low budget american yakuza type movies.

He plays pretty cool bad guy roles back in the day.

The school was definetly doing karate. Chuck did a little karate but a lot of aikido. All of his throws were Aikido...the cartwheel was just unneccesary TV additive.

@CheetaRevised kotegaeshi is an old jujutsu technique. Even though its possible he learned it from an Aikido school, its not necessary so.

@supertotoro @@CheetaRevised Norris’ martial arts background is in tang soo do (black belt), judo (black belt), Brazilian jiu-jitsu, shotokan, shito-ryu, gosoku-ryu, American kenpo, and budo jujutsu.

I once saw a video of people referring to their system as budo jujutsu doing kotegaeshi, so he could have learned it from there. Throws are nothing new to him, he's been doing them since 1958 and has always made students learn them. Unfortunately on film he's mostly done striking during his career.
