No knitting is the wrong way just different, Elizabeth Zimmerman said to smile and carry on. I remember a German lady wondering how I could produce lovely aran knitting using the throw method, like the ladies in Peru. At the time I didn't realise she thought throwing meant taking the hand off the needle. This looks good as I've tried the German style and found it impossible to keep my left index finger high and ended up trying to knit with my finger like 'Geek. Thanks'
@sscrapyparcss hahah. yeah. no knitting is the wrong way. although I have seen WRONG. well, no. it was literally backwards. i was confused as this person was explaining to me why they do it that way. mirror image kind of thing...
@cinderloowho just because we do it fast and efficiently doesn't mean it's wrong now is it? :) Someone used to tell me I knit weird too. whatever! :) i get sh*t done, man! :D
you were fast. were you doing both knit and purl or was it all the knit stitch. it looked like you did some purls but i'm not sure. how long did you take to learn how to continental knit? great vid btw
I think I knit continental style, but it looks very different--there's a lot more space between the thread and needle, and it wraps several times around my hand for tension--How do you maintain tension?
yeah that's what's weird about me....i'm so close to the tips. :) i maintain tension w/ my pinky finger...the yarn is wrapped around my left pinky, just once. i manage :)
I'm going to assume that you're a teen...but no matter what your age is....YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL IMAGINATION! What a clever idea...and I really enjoyed it! Thanks for the giggle.
This is great! I am a Continental Knitter, am not yet fast at purling; can't quite get the left hand set up properly. I may do as someone earlier commented -- knit Continental, and then purl American. How very international!
I learned the Continental method on a DVD, "The Absolute Best Way to Learn How to Knit," with Leslye Solomon. I found it to be very easy to follow, and before no time, I was knitting and purling. I have been told that Elizabeth Zimmerman is the goddess of knitting.

I knit just like that, and when I'm "practiced up" I knit that fast too...cracks me up that people still insist I'm doing it wrong!

I knit just like that...my mom used to laugh and ask me if I thought it was a race...I sew really fast too! lol!

how about a purl like this too, I hate ribbing because of all the movement, but if there was a rib stitch that was faster????
pegschr 1 year ago
@pegschr a faster way to rib? not sure. :) hahahah continental really helps w/ speed and efficiency though. :)

@susan - i have another video that is slowed down that shows how i purl. i can't explain how I do it...i just show ppl and let them watch. :)

i knit this way too i used to throw but this is way faster but for some reason i still throw the purls purling continental is hard for me
Mariannalice 3 years ago
Continental reminds me of crocheting. Why is there a throwing method anyway. This seems so much easier...

right..lol..damn americans mess everything up lol
(i'm being semi silly by the way..and i am american..just pokin fun at us.)

Excellent (so fast it's blurry!) example of why Continental is more efficient and faster than the English/American/'throwing' style of knitting. ^_^
