Opensource tuning has a map for using this boost controller. Its $77 and you need to have the opensource software and the openport 2.0. I'm running that map and its working great. It was better to pay $77 then to pay $300+ for a tune. check out the maps on xpttuning. com
some extra advice might be to have people reuse the clamps, or hoseclamp the vac lines onto their nipples. They will blow off at 24psi plus boost levels... had it happen to me :)
@fbjr2003 Hey man, NOPE you will actually have to go directly to a tuner, the Cobb AP can only be protuned to work with any aftermarket BCS, there is currently no OTS map for it!
@sergsrt8 Great question! Let's break it down a bit here, more boost in most cases will mean more horsepower if properly tuned, however a smaller turbo will not be able to flow as much air and it comes down to the velocity of air that the turbo is capable of pushing, not just the PSI. Also teh OEM turbo has definite limiting factors strictly related to PSI where a larger turbo is capable of producing more PSI at a higher velocity. - Will
@sergsrt8 It all depends on what your idea of "slower" is. Smaller turbos spool faster, but suffer on the top end, while bigger turbos spool slower, thus making them laggy... as in they need to be high in the RPMs to reach max boost/ power. With that being said, an 04 STi running the stock VF39 at 20psi will probably beat an 04 STI running a 20g at 15psi in the quarter. It also depends a lot on the build and the tune. There's no definitive answer. What exactly are you trying to find out?
@detox8388 im just wondering if the stock turbo is capable of running fast times. everyone who wants their sti really fast always swaps in a bigger turbo...
@sergsrt8 It depends on a lot of things... main thing being the tune. When trying to make big numbers the first to go is the turbo, because past 23-25psi, the VF39 stops making power. What is your idea of a "fast" time. I've seen STi's run into the 450whp range on a stock turbo, (while running meth.) Anything past that and the VF is just pushing air.
@sergsrt8 Do you have an STi? What do you want from the car, and the build? I know a great deal about STi's. I've owned two. My current, is being powered by a GT35r rotated. Boosting 26.5psi @ 5k rpms. I'll try to help you out as much as possible. Given your name, you're into American Muscle... STi's are a completely different game/ animal.
@detox8388 nah man, im just trying to learn....lol i dont hink i will get one anyway.....sti's and evos are nice cars but i heard that if you beat them you need to rebuild the engine even if it's stock every 40,000-60,000 miles
Controlling boost only allows you to max out your current turbo, it has its limits too! e.g. sr20det engine (found in nissan s13/14/15/pulsar gti-r) has a turbo capable of around 280hp, so almost +50% increase in power with sufficent supporting mods, such as fmic, exhaust, injector, possibly fuel pump, and of course a tune-up to keep it from melting. But as the sr20det can take 400hp with the same mods, that's why ppl want to bolt on bigger turbos!
Should be getting mine in tommorow.. Installing it on my ralliart and getting a tune done right after.. Everybody has been recommending to use this instead of the boost pill so will see how it works out
@ChicanoRockero Installing this alone will cause your car to overboost which could be potentially catastrophic. You need to bring your car to a tuner/dyno to get the ECU reflashed with a custom tune that allows to BCS to operate in conjunction with your engine correctly.
@GrimmSpeed Depends on the ECU version. If you reset your ECU, your initial wastegate levels should be low enough that boost error will only climb them back up to where they need to be to hit the right target boost numbers. But if you were to just throw this on your car and drive it, yeah it could be ugly, since the wastegate duty cycles will have climbed to hit the target boost numbers for your old BCS.
@luvtomoko stock flutters out the turbo after a certain amount of boost, this will allow you to get more boost out of your turbo. But i agree with sweetlikeADAM, how do we take control of boost with this?
In any future video, you guys should have also mentioned the "number" for each port ... instead of just top, bottom, etc ... that was a tad confusing. Just some feedback ;-)
@afgandominator Yes you will still need a professional tune on the car after the install unless you can find a specific OTS map made for this BCS as Cobb does NOT supply one.

will this work with a cobb accessport? and do they have pre made tunes for a boost controller?

will this fix boost cut on my 05 wrx?

So can you install it without taking it to a tuner/dyno? can you just change the psi setting on the controller? what about manual ones?

If you put this on and tune via the COBB AP does that work or do i actually have to go to a tuner?

how much is a tune? BTW

Do you re-use the restrictor pill? i dont have money to pay for a tune currently so if i re-used the RP would i still need a tune?
Thanks, Mitch

@alfa69er nope, no reusing the pill. That's what makes this system awesome, you don't have to muck with pill sizes.

i dont understand, if u install this you get more boost right? so why do people install bigger turbos when you can do this for more boost?

@GrimmSpeed so a stock turbo on 20 pounds of boost will be slower than a bigger turbo with 15 pounds of boost?
