  • σαν τα ελληνικα πανεπιστημια κανενα αλλο .!!!!

  • Top 4 Dream Schools 1. Stanford 2.Columbia 3. UCLA 4. Brown. P.s I'm only in the 6th grade but I'm going to work my butt off in h.s

  • if only i could afford columbia

  • one fucking day. i'll go here.

  • Columbia U...isn't it neat.

  • Just submitted my app for the class of 2016! I'm sooo nervous.

  • I wanna go there for law school. do they look at your high school GPA as well as your college?

  • I want to go to Columbia but i want to know if i have the credentials. I have straight A's, participate in extra curriculars, but what makes me really stand out is that I'm starting a fundraiser for children with cleft lips and cleft palates. I've been working on it for the past few months. So far we've raised $1,700. This is just the beginning. Do i have the credentials? I want to make it into my dream school.

  • some day

  • I would apply if I didn't fuck up my freshman and sophomore years of high school. LOL.

  • im a junior this yr ...and omg i really wanna get into it...i really hope they will take me :)

  • im in fifth grade and i want to become a lawyer ! this place here is my goal

  • Comment removed

  • I'm a junior this year and i really hope i can get in, I just love film so much.

  • My dream school! I'm absolutely in love with their Journalism/ Mass Comm. program. Maybe for grad school. <3

  • can u get rransfered in? cuz i kinda messed up in HS and i now regrett it, i graduated but i had a lot of Cs, and now I am gnna attend a community college.

  • If u guys wanna show ur a dedicated student and increase ur chances of getting in, might i suggest the summer program? I met my best friends at the summer program and I got an amazing college experience here. It's truly worth it and u can say u attended it on ur college resume. I did both sessions but most people do 1 session, 3 weeks each session. Be warned though, its $6,000 to be residential and $3,000 to commute, for 1 session. Otherwise, it's a really really nice program.

  • This is my dream College, but with my skills I will be lucky if I get into City College :(

  • @NyIzAwSoMe Go for it, even though you may not feel like you've got a chance!

  • @westend104 dont give him false hopes you asshole

  • @westend104 yeah the thrill its exciting

  • @NyIzAwSoMe i know exactly how you feel....

  • I want to go here so bad! I am only in 8th grade, but we took a field trip to NYC in 4/5th grade and I fell in love.

  • @GIeeky Throughout all four years in high school, take this advice. Never settle for anything less than an A and, seriously, partake in school activities and community events. It will practically guarantee you a spot.

  • @GIeeky It IS a great school. It's a good goal to have, to go to a wonderful college like Columbia. Good luck to you, and hope you're having a fantastic summer!

  • He sounds like Nicholas Cage ;p

  • Hie...m an Indian...can u plz tell me hw can i enter dis university>???

    It seems pretty cool!!

  • "this temple of learning"...lmfao

  • hey just had a quick question, im a canadian community college student doing mechanical engineering, its kinda like a associates degree and i do want to get my bachelors, so do you think i can get into columbia? please don't tell me to go and check out the website cause i did that a millions times! i need your opinion! also my gpa is 3.5 on average

  • @n83inflames If you have a 3.5 GPA and you're from a community college, you won't get in. I'm sorry. ;-;

  • to bad i can't afford to go there -__-

  • What makes Columbia stand out from the rest? I would say the campus (Harlem, really?) or the programs? Lets us here from you and also prepare for your job interview by submitting a resume video of why you are the best of the best.

  • bunch of liberal hippies that laugh at iraq war vets..... id like to see one of you skinnny vegans fight for our freedom and wake the f *ck up

  • @RunningMyChains123 with all due respect, you sound like a fucking idiot.

  • This University and it's students are a DISGRACE TO THE US

Search Youtube under "veteran heckled at columbia"

TO SEE HOW THEIR STUDENTS HECKLED A WOUNDED VETERAN

    DON'T CHA JUST LOVE COLUMBIA????

  • im australian. can some explain to me what an SAT is?

  • @ReklawRemix Thanks for watching - and greetings to you in beautiful Australia (one of our favorite places on the planet!). SAT is short for "Scholastic Achievement Test" and is a college entrance examination that many colleges and universities require you take before applying; your scores tend to rank you along with your grades and determine your chances (or not) of getting accepted. Your social and racial and interests profile are also part of the decision-making process.

  • @westend104 It actually stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test.

  • @TheNextPre2010 Thanks for the correction; oops! (I actually used to work for ACT, so guess I have an excuse for not remembering the competition's name....)

  • @ReklawRemix

Standardized test used to test the students knowledge of math, arithmetics, word knowledge and sentence completion. It covers simple problems to challenging problems. The score is viewed by schools for acceptance.

  • Read the Communist Manifesto,

(Equal obligation of all to work in industrial armies [8th pt. of communist manifesto]) GOOGLE the others, because they are just as devastating.

  • In my ideal world, I would get a BEng from MIT, an MBA from Harvard and a Phd from Columbia. Too bad I'm a dumb ass and couldn't get any of those things.

  • @tothatextent lol I graduated from a good, solid state university in the Midwest, so those schools in your ideal world seem out of my league, too! But it's fun to live in the Columbia neighborhood....

  • @westend104 I love how the left says George W. Bush is so stupid. He got into and graduated from Yale for his BA. Then, he must of had good enough marks to get accepted in the MBA program at Harvard, which he graduated from as well. Just getting into any of those schools is extremely hard, never mind graduating.

  • @tothatextent You make a good point. It's hard to get into both, although having a president for a father might have swayed a few admissions people, don't you think?

  • @westend104 His father was not president at the time he was in university. You have to remember there are a lot of rich people in America, and they all want their kids to go to ivy league schools. How many people are accepted in the Harvard MBA program each year, less than 100? There are 300 million people in America. Also, there are all the international students. You are probably competing with millions of people. And, that is just to get in. You have to be smart enough to stay.

  • @tothatextent You don't seem to know much about Ivy admissions.

His father wasn't president at the time, but he WAS a businessman & congressman. There aren't many Americans rich enough to donate 1M+ to college endowments, but Bush's father was. College endowments are largely supported by donations. Legacy status + millions of dollars in donations + political influence = applicant who is difficult to reject financially and politically.

Btw int'l students have a harder time getting in.

  • @applekiwibanana they were not that rich. Type in : George W. Bush's childhood home on Google. A modest house to say the least. People just can't handle the fact that Bush is smarter than they think he is.

  • You americans are blessed, maybe you should get a video tour of our best colleges hear, i guess thats why you have the best things in the world because your education system and schools are also good. i really envy you people and i would really like to study in U.S

  • Just telling you the harsh reality. You have a slim to none chance of getting into a university of this caliber with a degree from a community college. Your 4.0 is being compared to 4.0's from probably all of the top 50 schools in the nation. And your "majoring in medicine" comment just shows your lack of knowledge in the field of medicine. You cannot major in medicine. I would love to see you tell that to someone during an interview!

  • Does Columbia have conduct interviews?

  • this place looks great! i got in and im going there for college, but, havent visited yet : (

  • @americaneseia Good luck to you; it's a great city and the upper west side of Manhattan is wonderful.

  • I really messed up in highschool and currently I am going to community college. So, my goal for next year is to keep my 4.0 up and get into this school. I do doubt myself sometimes in the process but that is normal (I am guessing). Anyways, what I am saying is that eventhough I did somethings (well, alot) in highschool I regret. I am going for my goal and getting into this school and majoring in medicine.

  • @islespatrick Best of luck, and how wonderful that you're reaching high to achieve your career goals and dreams!

  • @westend104 So I was talking with my advisor today and he said that I have the grades to get in so far.

  • @islespatrick That's FANTASTIC news!!!

  • @islespatrick 90% of the people who apply have the grades to get in...

  • @islespatrick Wish you all the best!

  • @islespatrick you can't major in medicine. And I doubt you will get in coming from a community college, even if you do have a 4.0.

  • @TheNextPre2010 Wow, you're an asshole. Why do you think that???

  • ah I really wanted to go there, but i got so many 'F's to be recommended・・・and my poor English skill

  • i don't know what SAT and ACT are =/ I am currently doing my Advance level and Advance subsidiary level in high school. the website for Columbia university doesn't tell what a-level grades should i have to get in. i need help

  • I attended Columbia and it was the worst experience of my life. Elitist students, snobby instructors, and a small ugly campus which borders on a very dangerous neighborhood. Lots of crime including a murder of a Columbia student just blocks away. The school is one of the most, if not the most, expensive institution of higher learning in the country, and is out of reach for most. Even though the school rapes students financially, the facilities are falling apart. Don't go there!!!

  • my school :)

  • @iza153 Mine too :D

  • is the pre-med/psychology program good?

  • yes! only its very competitive.

  • Stupid redneck, the brainwashing station is the church you attend.

  • Too bad I don't attend church jackass

  • @HaleFire7 agreed...

  • I'd love to go to your university, but it's kind of impossible considering that I'm from Romania. The only way a Romanian is getting to a top us college like this one, is by scoring perfect SAT's or winning international science prizes. I bet that if I were an american I would get admitted because I'm pretty good at school. I guess life is unfair

  • They really do look for diversity... so i don't see why you shouldn't try at least. :)

  • @radoomiron93

I'm sure you'll get in if you work hard to get in =)

    Anything is possible-Good luck ;)

    xoxo peace

  • @radoomiron93

One of my friends floor mate is from Romania.

  • @radoomiron93 boo fuckin hoo. go do some gymnastics.

  • It's a tough school to get in, but your counselor should have good advice on your admissions chances. (Also your SAT or ACT scores will help tell a full story with your GPA and resume.) Good luck, and just know that any university or college can give you a great education if you work hard enough at it. My favorite story is a woman who went to a tiny CT college and she started photography there, started taking snaps for the college brochure, etc. Now she's a photographer at National Geographic!

  • @westend104 im not gonna lie! u just motivated me right now! its tough tho, right now im in a community college, and my goal for next year after i graduate is to attend the Columbia University for architecture.. i myself have doubts tho..smh

  • @90loneeagle GOOD LUCK! All the best, Jay

  • my college is my room, real friends, life experience.

been in the past in hard conditions. I love to read I don"t watch

T.V, it pullets your brain. I don"t have a degree in English so I know I have errors, but am good in computers love them, also love international cuisine. I think every body is smart, even my two dogs are intelligent. just being , como en espaNOl se dice , sencillo ..humilde.

  • Looks great!

I will be doing my MA at GSAS this Fall and can't wait to be there!

  • Is it hard to get in the GSAS? I'm looking to get graduate education and Columbia would be a dream come true.

  • It really depends on what program you want, but I'd say the trick is to use rolling admissions if your program offers it and apply as early as possible. Other than that, I guess you've read about the importance of essays and recommendations - very true

  • I'd go for political science.

  • yup, that's the program i'll be in

it works on rolling admissions, so i'd definitely apply as early as possible (i sent my application in early jan)

on top of that, you'll need a personal statement, recommendations and a polsci writing sample

  • My old stomping grounds. Dodge Hall, Lowe Library, Butler Library. Thanks for the mini tour. Fond memories.

  • You're very welcome. My pleasure! It still remains part of my Upper West Side NYC neighborhood and we love it. And by the way, you are VERY talented! Thanks so much for your music.

  • I can remember my father and I touring the campus of Columbia with my sister who is now in her sophomore year. Though it's a beautiful campus I don't regret going to Cornell U.

  • I live in London we have Imperial, Cambridge, Oxford and so on.. But this Uni just blows my mind. What do I need to get in? I just love it I don't know why but I just....... LOVE IT !

  • It's too late to apply for 2009 but if you do you will need an SAT I and two SAT II subject tests. Columbia is very competitive so high scores on these in combination with effective application essays will stand you in good stead.

I have applied for 2009 but have to wait until April to receive a reply!

  • I don't know what SAT is because I live in London. SAT is probably our A-Levels...

What does the application essay have to be about?

And Good luck with the application.

  • how hard is it to get into columbia? i have my mind firmly set on that university. I have an a b average in school, is that good enough

  • It's a great school, and probably one of the most competitive to get into. Check with your h.s. guidance counselor on your chances (combo of grade point + admissions package + college entrance exam scores). Realistic: apply to Columbia and pick several other schools for "safety." Good luck to you!

  • I got in (2009 admissions) with a 2030 SAT, a 31 ACT, and SAT II's of 770 and 750. My SAT score is pretty low, but my essay was absolutely masterful (if I do say so myself).

  • GPA???

  • 4.72 weighted and 4.0 unweighted. All A's all four years with many AP courses. And why am I getting thumbs down? Jealousy?

  • I didn't thumbs down you... I have a 4.2 on a 4 scale but I'm just a freshman. No one gets in from our school anyway not even 5.0/35 Act. It's mostly about your ecs and other things you do outside of school. Do you go to a prep school, or a public school?

  • I go to a run of the mill public school. I have several EC's I've been in for all four years of high school and have amassed well over 600 hours of community service.

  • I know a ton of people who didn't get in from my school who had more community service then you, great ecs, and higher stats... that seems unfair. Oh well, i don't even want to go to columbia i want to go to upenn.

  • ya, y are u ppl giving this person thumbs down??

  • Dude, I got in with a 1790 SAT 570 and 650 SAT IIs top 20 of my class and 3.something GPA. Numbers have nothing to do with it; natural intelligence and charisma as well as a personality are what get you in. It helps to be humble too asshole.

  • If you can help me with my essay. Applying to Columbia in fall of 2010 under early D. There might be hope for me yet.

  • @bombdanca2256 and you're probably a minority and/or first generation college student. You don't get into a university of this prestige with a 1790 and a 3 something GPA.

  • i`m happy for u pls help me with the easy

  • @kingmanusa64 try to get A+, good sat and act scores and plus your gpa need to be awesome ^.^ and if u do that ur good :} study hard too^.^

  • columbia is my first choice for university; nyc, awesomness (lol), etc. im thinking of economics, since it has had so many nobel prize winners im guessing its pretty amazing...

  • Great school, awesome city, and that would be an amazing major to take up there, too. Given the state of the economy, we can use more fresh thinking in the profession. Go for it! (Yes you can... lol) Thanks for watching!

  • did you get in

  • Columbia is a private University.

  • is this public or private?

  • what's the area around columbia like?

  • The Upper West Side of Manhattan is GREAT. Quiet, residential, but lots of interesting shops, stores, and a real neighborhood-y place in Manhattan which is friendly to students. I've lived in the area called "SoCo" (South of Columbia) for years, and students come down to are neighborhood around Broadway and 104th Street for restaurants, coffee shops, and groceries. The subway, of course, means you're close to all the rest of Manhattan, so you're as isolated or connected as you want to be.

  • can't wait to apply xD!

  • Good luck, William! And thanks for watching.

  • Edit: If you've never visited New York before and are planning to in the near future, I strongly suggest you make a stop at this academic powerhouse to check out the campus in person. It is beautiful. I've been there about four times in the last six years, and every last time it felt like I wasn't in my own backyard anymore. I am a little over a year and a half from applying to the School of Public health at CU. I hope I get in. They have everything I am looking for in a school.

  • Thanks for watching -- and best of luck with your app to the Public Health School! I hope you get in, too.

  • I want to go to Columbia soooooooooo bad! I would like to major in Architecture.

  • Architecture would be a GREAT major. Your country has many great architects (including the original pyramid builders, of course!). Best of luck to you, and thank you for watching.

  • whoa, what a powerful looking campus! always dreamed of going to college there, but could never afford it.

  • It does say POWER, doesn't it, Brittany? Many universities are in to the classical buildings and statements that they are Ivy-covered towers where Learning lives. NYC also has lower-profile colleges and universities that are definitely worth looking into, like Pratt, any of the CUNY schools, Pace, the New School, Fordham, and many others! Thanks for watching! Best, Jay

  • It's really early for me to think about think about this, but I want to transfer were from Canada for a masters in architecture.

  • Good luck to you! That is a great goal, and surrounded by inspiring architecture all around the Columbia campus and throughout Manhattan and the outer boroughs, it seems like a very fitting place to further your studies in architecture. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Best regards, Jay

  • NYC is smelly and polluted, but it would be such an adventure and they have a great program. I'm only 16 now haha so early, buy its fun to dream.

  • Adventure is definitely NYC's middle name! It's a fast-paced, busy, and surprisingly friendly city (much more so than most U.S. cities; people are so helpful and I like their style of being very direct versus the "fake nice" behavior in most other places). The weather is relatively mild, and the air COULD be better (you are right that there is a pollution problem here and in other big cities). Keep dreaming, and do give our big city a try!

  • yeah I went there for a field trip last year. The more popular areas were really nice (5th avenue and T.S as long as you dont look at the ground!!). So it was really great . Our hotel was in such a ghetto area though! The first 15mins in NYC was frightening. We don't have many "hardcore gangstas" in t. Other than that it was great for 50 kids in an arts program. But I could feel how fresh the air was home after, you can smell the smoke/trash in a lot of areas in NY, cept central park.

    Thank you!

  • You're welcome! And thanks for sharing that field trip. I remember my first field trip to Chicago when I was in junior high school. It was scary. They told us to duck down in our bus seats when passing one of the high-rise apartment complexes that overlooked the freeway; the day before, snipers were shooting at cars from apartment windows. Major gangstas!!!

  • Lol, at times. Not good when you're smelling the central park horse crap though.

  • how are the dorms here? I heard that the rooms for freshman are terrible.

  • Good question! Many schools have sucky frosh dorms, that's for sure. Columbia has expanded its campus quite a bit; much new building going on. If anyone reading this post has any insight into Columbia's first-year dorms, please comment... (And thanks for watching!)Best, Jay

  • Eh, they're okay. They're not fantastic, but not terrible either. Especially considering this is Manhattan where space is such a scarcity.

There's an entire building (John Jay) where its all single dorms for freshmen only, which is rare for undergrad colleges, especially freshmen.

  • Thanks for the answer!!! Much appreciated.

  • I can't wait to apply!

  • Definitely. Great school, great city! Thanks for watching!

  • Neat Place,

I'm going on a visit this spring and am very excited. Thanks for the video.

  • You're welcome -- and many thanks for watching & commenting! I hope your visit goes well, too. Best, Jay

  • i been their

  • Cool area, isn't it? It's a favorite for both students, neighbors who live in the area, and tourists. Thanks for watching! Best, Jay

  • LOVE Beaux-Arts architecture! Paris, Bourbon Madrid, and Buenos Aires heavily employed the Beaux-Arts style for it's grandeur and majestic appearance. Gorgeous!

  • Thanks for viewing and favoriting this vid, SCA! Beaux-Arts is a great architectural expression, and you might want to look at my Video Design Diary on Design2Share dotcom where I confess my 2008 resolution to rescue the Beaux-Arts post office in the town where I grew up. Happy New Year! Best, Jay
