@Michael7477 Are you jealous or something? I'll agree that list is fucked up but, why do you feel the need to insult Americans? If it was a production made in the U.K. i'm sure it would've pegged the Warrior or Challenger near the top. It's entertainment and nothing more. I can assure you it wasn't a definitive study on the subject of tanks and armor. Why do you insist on proving just how ingnorant people can be?
I find all these TOP 10 lists ridiculous - you simply cannot compare a modern APC with a World War Two halftrack! On top of that, it always seems that the top 3 on these discovery lists are always US designs.
@RodinaZovet Sure you can. Some of these WW2 APCs are still in use. Look at things for what they are; a WW2 half-track is made of the same 1/2" thin steel as a Stryker truck. Both are flawed.
Not really. Top 10 tanks ended up concluding that the T-34 was a superior machine to the M1 Abrams. Now, if you want to talk about going full retard...
REALITY: WW1 when tanks were created. Most did not have turrets. Some were even light (under 20 tons). Swinton/Churchill et al created the "tank" and its their definition that is true.
I say a better tank can be made, tho Some things are classified as inhumane, and the tactics would be rather fearful lol. Nitro boosters, front cow/spike railing, Gatling guns(classified as inhumane but its bullshit, It just rips though ammo quickly) Also a duel howitzer would be wise on the turret, or else a 50-55 Howitzer on the sides and center, 2 125 howiz cannons.
m1a1 abram bud it can perice the leopard armor in less then 2 shots with the co axial machine gun and the high top armor it is a basic genius tank no doubt theyre t=will be some tht will break but it is amazing
FALSE. The whole point in war is to attain dominance to smother conflict by attaining your objectives. This is a TEMPORARY condition you have to FIGHT FOR constantly by adaptation.
The Australian 3/4th cavalry have around 800 of these, there good and i like em. but they may be getting a little outdated. im part of a ASLAV crew of the RAAC 2nd cavalry regiment.
A brilliant vehicle still. With the CIS 40/50 cupola weapon system which basically add a 40mm Automatic Grenade Launcher with the 50 cal combined, the Ultra is sweet !! Capable of laying down suppressive fire and turn infantry baddies inside out.
The alternate variant is the 25mm cannon variant which has some use against light vehicles but 40/50 are by far more popular.
The King Tiger only served a few years at best in WW2; the M113 Gavin has been kicking ass in combat from 1960 to the present (2008) ie 48 years! However, your King Tiger as a HEAVY tank would be on a different list than the LIGHT to medium tank/APC list the Gavin is on.
actually the whole show was on APC/AFV's not tanks. Though one of the best tanks ever was the Panzer IV. Starting in 1936, entering service in 1939, used in every front of WW2 europe. used by syria as late as 1967. Probably one of the best built german tanks with over 8000 built
Right, So a Sea-Bee Buldozer, with its steel side armor, around the drivers box, is a tank? since it has tracks, and armor? more like anything with tracks armor and weapons is an Armored fighting vehical.
Put it in a time machine back to WW1 and it would kick ass.
Let's not confuse ourselves with crap terms like "AFV" to appease tanker fucktards who want only heavy tanks with turrets to be afforded the name when the FUNCTION applies to anything that is TRACKED and ARMORED.
They don't belong here they are all crap for APCs because they have rubber tires...the half-track is only half-bad because it is HALF tracked. The M113 Gavin is a tracked, light tank that carries personnel.
I hope they have improved the armor by now, I was in a mechanized infantry unit in Bamberg Germany from '82 to '84 attached to the 1st Armored Division
Of course we have. We have videos here on armors available for M113 Gavins. The baseline bullet-proof box is the STARTING POINT; its on you what armor level you get. Go to the web page links in the video description for more detils or google "M113A3 Super Gavin" to see what an up-armored one looks like in Iraq today
"glad you saved this video... M113 was the original APC and IFV. Newer designs lose the elegance and versatility cost / effectiveness of the original which they're still cranking out essentially unchanged since 'Nam except for ACAV modifications."
"I was a 19D Scout for 11 years, the first six on 113s, then the piece of s**t Brads. For Scouts, it couldn't get worse than the Bradley....too big, too heavy, too loud, too complex, and too slow to keep up with the M1s it's supposed to support. A 113A3 runs rings around it, the only advantage a Brad has is firepower, but if you're a bigger target than a tank without the armor to take hits like a tank, a Brad's firepower doesn't mean a thing."
"Spent years crewing M113s, Great vehicle though, hated when we transitioned to the Bradley, a true maintenance nightmare that tries to be a jack of all trades, and ends up being a master of none."
"I agree that the weight is important for light units. We have BMD-4 for for light units (airborne), both BMP-3 (weight 18,7 tons) and BMD-4 (weight 13,6 tons) use the same armament system called "Bakhcha-U" but they have different undercarriage, thus they have different platforms.
"Bakhcha-U" system incorporates, 100mm main gun, coaxial 30mm automatic gun (those mounted in previous), and coaxial 7,62 Kalashnikov machine gun the entire systems contributes significant firepower to fighting units. Besides, the main gun is also used a missile launcher.
i disagree with a few vehicle placements on their, some may score because of their service and production rate but this program is forgetting some of the vehicles of other nations such as the german puma, 1. ranked APC in the world, all the chinese/soviet/japanese/korean/any other country that stole soviet tank designs. and the m2 bradley does not compete well with other infantry carriers.
The Puma is too heavy to traverse through closed terrain and is not easily air-transportable. Lumping all APCs/IFVs together is a simplistic broad brush that fails to comprehend that we need light, medium and heavy tanks for all types of earth terrains and 2D/3D maneuver forms.
Highly mobile army vechicles such as Humvees and Strykers are only good for special operations: quick assault and quick retreat; never on recon, escort and patrol, much on mopping-up operation. Certainly, they will be a constant casualty to variety of portable ATM weapons. The people behind the project must be dreaming. It is better to upgrade the old APCs such as M113 Gavin with new armor (reactive, passive, etc.) and electronic ATM-evasion system. Do the same also to M1A1 Abrams.
We totally agree; the road-bound, Stryker truck is a POS and a threat to America and her Army's effectiveness in ANY kind of combat. This video is to remind us all to maximize the M113 Gavin LIGHT tracks with MEDIUM armor to be cross-country, all-terrain mobile air-mech-strike forces
Most are american vehicles of course. Thats because americans are the biggest wan%$rs on the planet.

And how come BMP-3 not in the list ?It clearly superior to Bradley and of course M-113 .
Mifodiy35 2 years ago
FALSE. The BMP-3's ICING armament can be applied to a M113 Gavin; FNSS has already done it. Don't confuse ICING with CAKE.

Who is FNSS and what is ICING ?
Mifodiy35 2 years ago 2
FNSS makes Gavins under lisence in Turkey. ICING is what you put on a CAKE. Pastry, frosting etc.

However I agree with M113 being the best. It can be upgraded and modified so easily and the base design is simple but highly effective.
If you want to see reinventing the wheel look at the BMP.
