  • Paul said , I Force Him to Live ! :) QC

  • It was a tragedy when they broke up, huh

  • Art is cute at 0:40 :D

  • Simon and Garfunkle doing a stylish rendition of a Paul Simon classic.

  • Apparently, when they first started out, they would sit facing each other and sing at each other. This was their way of getting in sync with one another to sing pitch perfect together. At the beginning it is clear that Art is doing this since he is not used to this song. Even though it's Paul's song, it still sounds amazing with them together.

  • @qlsm1Paul & John Lennon did the same as teenagers - sat close up facing each other, singing and playing together.

  • My mom was there and I will forever be jealous of her for it.

  • 18 people got made fun of for being named "Julio" growing up.

  • this is matt ryan's favorite song

  • Paul? Paul? Paul? Would you look at Art please? lol

  • Guys do you know the cover of this music from Streetlight Manifesto... It's awesome too =D

  • mmm purple jump suit at 2:39 ...

  • I hope that this friendship lands on an upnote when all is said and done. Two beautiful voices tht came together so wonderfully. My mother introduced me to S&G w/Parsley, Sage Rosemary & Thyme because she loved their harmonies and the level of songwriting. So well done.

  • Would give my left testicle to have been at this concert !!!! Even though was only 4 at the time.....

  • paul simons voice works best for this song cuz he has slightly more bass in his voice

  • Artie looks so bored!

  • Art Garfunkle is, without a doubt, the most awkward human being on stage.

  • @NicklePizza You should see me...

  • JULIA..........NOT julio

the lyrics are "see you me and julia down by the schoolyard".

  • Lou Marini on tenor.

  • when was this?

  • @username7046 1981

  • Genio

  • *Julio and I

Grammar all up in this bitch.

  • @akipina

"* Julio and I" = fail...sorry. Would you say, "seeing I by the school yard?" no. You could argue for Julio and me (word order) if you want, but not Julio and I.

  • @eclecticNhectic

I am one salty ass motherfucker right now

  • @eclecticNhectic

also I was joking. hence the 'all up in this bitch' part of the comment. But yeah, you're right. I didn't think too hard about it when I posted the comment.

  • @akipina there was no correct grammar in this song to represent the innocence of a child

  • Where would this world be today if we didn't have Paul and Art? Can someone tell me? Because I can't even imagine it...

PS- Art is verrrry attractive. <3 lol

  • you guys are so bad ass. My 9,11,and 16 year old listen to you like thire momma.....we love you

  • sang this song on my way home from school...i love this song!!

  • This is the original but.

    Streetlight Manifesto Version.... whoa.

  • Great Simon and Garfunkel Cover at:

    graceland-online.de

  • Great sounds....but the tall hairy guy would freak me out if he looked at me that way...

  • arts better than paul

  • I love the video, this is one of their most upbeat songs that I love. Art was in my City's Symphony Orchestra for a concert last year and I missed him :-( The reviews said that his voice has never sounded better even now. He's doing standards. Paul, a great, GREAT, songwriter and singer with an amazing gift for melody, lyrics, and percussion, as well as some other funky sounds.

  • @SeventhHeaven5655 this is a paul simon song

  • @ragingbull2001 Yes I know. Paul Simon wrote the vast majority of songs when he was teamed with Art G. I grew up listening to this music in my childhood.

  • That bald trumpeter is rocking out hard.

  • Come on people, throughout this whole concert they share fine chemistry. There's no hidden animosity here--at least not during this time.

Yes, Paul wrote mostly all of the songs, but that doesn't mean Art is a brainless drone. Art is quite intelligent. He's a multi-instrumentalist and came up with quite a bit of the music for their works. He's also very smart, with a B.A. in art and a Masters in Math. Hell, before he went on to make an album and have his own hits when the duo split he teached!

  • @MrRathazar And so smart he got busted with pot....dry up!

  • @magovenor BFD, so what? A lot of us did. Better than being a drunk. I'm still waving my freak flag high

  • @martykate who cares about you pleasure seeking freaks. My comment had nothing to do with your personal choices!

  • @MrRathazar Taught. He taught...

  • @JRHization Right you are. That is an error on my part. Everyone, he "taught."

  • @MrRathazar Name one

  • Comment removed

  • 17 Julio's didn't like this song....

  • MY name is Julio! :D lol

  • Most of their song's are Paul's songs.

  • Art is hilarious at 2:22

  • @ragingbull2001 Art is hilarious in all the video. But you can't say anything. Come on, it's Art!

  • I was there

  • I remember when this was on, if my memory serves correct it was a special on HBO that night

  • THIS IS THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD !!!! Love this song to bits....

  • This one and Kodachrome are my fav songs from Simon of the post S&G era, and I like it the solo on this more than the duet.

  • THIS IS MUSIC !!

  • garfunkel looks like he knows that he isnt needed on this one lol

  • oh hell i love everything about this song....

  • wo... lovin the little Scat bit

  • omg... i fucking love that Saxophone solo...

  • i love this song it is my favorite one ever

  • why did they split up

  • @mark26099 because Paul got jealous because everyone liked Art better, people said Art's looks, voice and so on was better than Paul's. And they got in some arguments

  • they sound so good together, but i foind weird how art is always looking at paul when he's singing

  • *split up

  • i think it's nice that they remained friends and still played together, even after they broke up

  • watch Paul roll his eyes at Art at :50...they didn't even like each other

  • I see this so differently than some of you. I remember when Paul ditched Art: he said there was too much of a "creative imbalance" between the two, meaning he did all the writing. There was a highly publicized rift between the two, and I can clearly see it in these videos, where Paul is essentially ignoring Art throughout. Paul did NOT want to be associated with him any longer. He probably had to do this for contractual reasons of some sort. He does not want to be on stage with Art.

  • @gitchigoomi Wow! You are quite insightful. I thought it was weird how Art was staring at Simon - and Simon wasn't. You are SO right in what you say. It's almost like Art is trying to capture an onstage chemistry and Simon is having none of it. Thank you for this comment because it explains so much of how they are acting!

  • @briarrose29 Wasn't the awkwardness caused by this song being a Paul Simon solo hit after they split up? The fact that they did it together at this concert speaks volumes. There is a similar moment when, at the Eagles reunion concert, all of the Eagles join in singing a Don Henley song "New York Minute"

  • Im smiling!!! Sweet song = )

  • Can Garfunkel not stare at Simon all gay like when he sings?

  • @yakojjy hahahahahaha! I was thinking the same thing.

  • 17 people got left out....

  • LinaLoveHerGuitar, your English is quite good! No worries....

  • Your english is fine.

  • Your english is fine.

  • My slide show was intended to be a video but they took it right down. I did get other

songs back but not this one. I'm not sure what Art is doing here because they

usually never look at each other.

  • ohh Art's butt...

  • @jackieleep Yes, it is rather nice, isn't it? I've admired it each time I watch the Central Park Concert DVD

  • Paul Simon just added to The Hangout Beach Festival. Can't wait to see him for the first time!!!!!

  • @TheChicomangman Hey, I'm going to that, travelling out from n. wales, can't wait!

  • @what6275 Holy Hell, that's a quite a hike!

  • 2 legends I'd like to see more of in these later years while we still have them.

think it'd be worth a thumbs up?

  • Doughnuts are suck.

Sorry my English is so bad, i"m from Liechtenstein :-)

  • this actually ridiculously rocks.

  • Great song. Awesome to see Bob Ross rocking it out on the saxophone.

And the drums for that matter.

  • @corporal8448 BOB ROSS REFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you get 11 thumbs up automatically :)

  • @XxLetsTalkGamesxX Hahahaha!!!! Just waiting for that happy tree to appear in the picture!! :)

  • I like it better then the original. In addition to LinaLoveHerGuitar2's post I've noticed that Paul and Art kinda distance themselves from one another and also look at the communication breakdown on the song with In the mood. Art say's "I'm in the mood" and Paul laughs and tells the band "In the mood" like it wasn't slated for performance. Just some observations I've picked up otherwise the whole concert rocks.

  • Nothing's better §§§§§

  • LinaLoveHerGuitar

    Your English is grate!

  • 0:10-0:22 "Hey! Look over here! Look at me! OK, we'll try later."

0:33-0:45 "Ok, Now! Come on, Man! I'm right here! Fine, stuff it!"

0:49-0:53 "What the hell is this guy doing here?"

  • Still brilliant after all these years

  • I adore this song...

  • The best part is from 2.22 - 2.27

    Paul rocks =D

  • These two have a long and really good friendship. But as another said, it was only Paul who got the credit on their songs and vice versa was Paul angry about the success and attention that Art got in their song "Bridge over trouble water". But mostly their discussions were about what kind of music they wanted to make. Anyway they are now really good friends. In fact Paul was a little bit shy when he was younger and himself has said that Art supported him and gave him self-confidence.

  • And to you who have doubts about all these things like if they hate each other or had a relationship or whatever, I advise you to, if you want a real answer instead of people who just guesses, then go visit their websites and read their story ...

  • And I know that Art is pleased and grateful to be allowed to sing along to this song and also to slip sliding away, because it wasn’t really intended. Maybe you notice that Art at the beginning of the song actually goes a little further back Paul. That and the grateful look at Paul, is probably to symbolize that this is Paul's song and that he thinks the song is good.

Sorry my English is so bad, I’m from Denmark. :-)

  • @LinaLoveHerGuitar Don't excuse being from DK ;o)

  • @LinaLoveHerGuitar

There's more to it than that.

Art doesn't know the lyrics so he's looking at Paul for the words during the main verse. He knows the chorus so he sings it without looking at Paul. You'll see that Art looks away everytime the chorus comes.

  • @patrickcorliss I greatly agree with you here. This wasn't a concert down for contractual reasons. They did both indeed want to do this, but this is a Simon solo song. Art is just trying to follow along the best that he can by following Paul.

  • @LinaLoveHerGuitar Don't worry; your English is better than many here for whom it is their primary language.

  • Paul is married and has a son at this time. And Art is also today married and has a son. So no, they are funny enough, not gay. I really hate those of you who think you are so funny by writing stupid random comments.

This is really just a Paul Simon song from his solo career and it’s only sung by him. Therefore Art was not so familiar with this song. So, like some others say, he might try to see how Paul sings it so they can hit the harmonies.

  • Why do some of you guys interpret that when Art Garfunkel looks at Paul Simon it means all kind of silly stuff?

I'm a big fan of them. And I have once read a biography of Paul Simon so I know at least something.

Firstly, this was a sort of reunion concert. Paul had had a solo career, but after this concert they realized that they still could share their common joy of music and then they decided to recover the duo. But they disagreed over which music they would play, so they split up again.

  • God rest your soul Gerry. You were a part of one of the best and most important live shows ever!

  • OMG best evver

  • Fantastic video great song.

    Thank you for posting.

  • Art wants paul

  • @rocker7251

    haha:P

  • *in a nasaly voice* "Gerry Niewood on saxophone" XD that always plays in my head after this song :P

  • Awsome!!!!

  • RIP Gerry Niewood. Your music will always live on.

  • Great show! Love the roar of the crowd at the end of this song!

  • 1:11 is bob ross hahahaha

  • 1:39 perfect harmony =)

  • What a great song. It even incorporates spanish people!!! Justin, Mike, David and I all love this song. WE ALL MISS ANDY VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU ANDY!!!!!

  • Interesting how everyone here seems to be arguing over their personal relationship. I, personally, could give less of a shit.

Their music is great, the rest is just gossip.

  • dont kid yourself johnny there aint no relationship they hate each other great act though

  • This has to be the definitive live version - great sax solo!

  • no chemistry live between these 2.

  • Does...Garfunkle appear to be giving Simon eyes in this?? o_0

  • no i don´t think so someone said that he´s watchin his lips to keep up because they´re singin at the same time with high speed..but wouldn´t it be cute if he was tryin to make eye contact with him? xD

  • listen up, he's trying to keep his singing in time. they're trying to har-mon-ize, helloooo.

  • hey i got a question..

did they like each other? i mean did they get along with each other?cause some guys say they didn´t..?

  • they were very close friends - but simon always felt closer to european/world music and this caused tension...but art garfunkel wanted to be a folk/classical purist...also paul simon wrote all the S&G songs and pocketed most of the royalties...

  • it´s a relief to know they were good friends cuz so many people say they didn´t get along with eachother...so thanks ;)

so were this tensions the reason they finally broke up?

anyway these two are unforgettable <3

  • They had a few breakups over the years, but were back together at the 2003 Grammy's to get an award and that set into motion a renewed fond relationship and subsequent tours.

  • Totally love this! They were such a great team!!

    Unforgettable....

  • what year is this?

  • September 19, 1981

About a half million people attended.

  • The sax player is a beast.

  • They enjoyed doing this song so much that they performed it twice when I saw S & G at Candlestick Park in SF! LOL Great concert!

  • Art looking at Paul isn't trying to establish eye contact, it's so he could keep up with his lips since they're both singing at the same time.

  • i dig this song

  • but no ¬_¬

  • Is that Lenny and Squiggy on trumpet?

  • Simon is actually a demon garfunkel conjured during his years of practicing the dark arts.

  • i remember those days

  • that sounds pretty cool.

  • I love this video to pieces. The staring, the purple-jacketed trumpeter, Art's awkward shuffling... it's all gold.

  • Amen.

  • @silentalarmactivated "art's awkward shuffling" tee hee hee! i love it! and what about the finger on "whoo!" @ :30 ?!? love it!

  • why did they think that those other instruments would make the songs better? they just make me boo! i need less strange sax and more ... not strange sax

  • Hey, Eleveator.

Brass sections have always been a part of their music.

You must not appreciate fine music.

  • well, no, i do appreciate fine music... its why i listen to alot of simon & garfunkel... i also really do like the saxophone. but i really dont feel it here... the two of them togeather here dont sound good in my ears. just cause they tryed it here dont make it right. i was just comenting on a mistake that i think they made... thats alright isnt it?

  • però é divertente

  • very cazzuta music

  • Pity they could not connect when they sang Paul's solo songs. No eye contact even though Garfunkel tried.

  • art was like staring at him waiting to stare back but nothing happened lol I love these guys some of the greatest singers of time

  • do these guys have wifes? im just curious

  • No, they have each other. =)

  • good quality. great song.

  • i r teh Julio

  • Art's "dancing" is classic!

  • Yeah, he gave me a few "dances" too..Before he came out, anyways. :[

  • Art's so cute and awkward.

  • Right you are.

  • when was this concert?

  • So, what did Mama see? Any ideas?

  • she saw them breaking the law...but it isn't clear what law they are meant to have broken......wikipedia has the full story behind the song.

  • Paul said it was something sexual.
