so, your saying that the commander colt was givin as a different issue of 1911 to generals in the us military back in the day? since it's called , commander
I just picked up the lightweight commander in stainless, I just got back from the range and I love the way it feels and carries. Thanks for the videos, keep them comming.
I have been looking at a Colt 45 acp 1911 for some time. On Fathers Day my son and wife presented it to me as a gift. I have always enjoyed the natural grip of the 1911. Shot it for the first time today. It is an excellent firearm as I have been told. My 1911 is all metal and I very happy with it. Less weight wold have been nice
Sootch, I have found that old or surplus mags that work fine in the Government model may not work in the commander due to the shorter and thus faster recoil stroke of the slide. When carrying the LWC I always use newer mags like Wilson or McCormick with strong springs to avoid malfunctions.
Great vid. Been waiting to see this review from you on the Colt Commander. I see you carry this often. Thanks for the breakdown. I am planning on purchasing a 1911 before the end of the year and this vid helps in the filtering process of soo much to choose from in the 1911 market. Take care and God Bless.
@averagejoetactical1 The RIA is a fine 1911, but Colt is a higher quality pistol. The fit and finish is worth the extra money plus the collector value is much greater. For a basic shooter, you can't fault the RIA 1911.
Great video, Sootch. Interesting that the Lightweight Commander weighs about the same as the G19. I learned some stuff in this video; I'm so glad your new Probation Officer is keeping you a free man and on YouTube. :-)
i use to love the Colt Commander...this is my sons account but i go on it to look at guns and such but i fell in love with the Ruger SR1911 .45 ACP that is my new carry gun and it is amazing.PS I love your videos.Keep up loading ~Matthew
How does the trigger for the basic 1911 feel? It looks aggravating. I'm wondering because I would like a 1911 for my first pistol, and all the basic 1911's are a LOT cheaper. Should I by a basic one and accessorize it later or just by the more expensive ones?
@snomankak I honestly would buy a little higher end Springfield match pistol or a colt I own to springfield a run of the mill champion and full size match. Love them both and the trigger on the champ I plan on putting match parts in because it's a little rough.
im still waiting for a gun review from any channel where on a safety check there actually was a bullet in the chamber, even if intentionally, to prove a point
this is the second vid or yours that i just got done watchin--i watched the one about the M4 Carbine--you have very cool information; i really didnt know that the 1911 had so many safety mechanisms lol. you just got a new subscriber lol thank you
I have a new appreciation for Colts now, thanks Sootch! You know how people can have a weird prejudice against certain brands? I had that against Colt, for no real reason, but I liked the history of it and I like the gun, thanks again :)
Sootch, I love your channel and I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your willingness to respond to comments and you're never the least bit rude or condescending. Keep up the good work!
man. speechless... gorgeous 1911. just an old classic original. most relating to the WWII era. i cant stand these new generation 1911's with all these new looks. gorgeous gun and grip, everything.
I friggin' love .45 1911 handguns. My dream is to get an Operator in the future. But living in California, I am not sure how I am going to pull that off.
@MrBillTroop73 It's a decent hand position, but the closer to bore axis and the muzzle you get, the better control you have over a gun. Best to slide the thumbs forward so your hands encompass more of the gun, IMO. Jeff Cooper was a great guy, though, and thumb-on-the-safety was one part in the evolution from terrible handgun techniques to perfect ones. He paved the way for a lot of things.
@Grubbernaut I agree that any particular hand position may not work well for everyone. The thumbs on top of the safety addressed a specific issue that I have personally seen happen many times. That being, thumbs under the safety can, and does eventually engage the safety while firing a 1911. Often the unintended engaged safety is misread as a malfunction, a real problem during a self defense situation.
@MrBillTroop73 That sounds like a problem with recoil mitigation. And actually, if your thumbs are as far forward as is best for controlling the gun, they shouldn't be moving against the safety, really. Excepting the base, anyway, which isn't moving, to begin with.
@Grubbernaut It happens to the best, especially under stress, that rare event when the wrist does not hold quite strong enough, and the force of the the returning slide presses the safety down into the thumb joint, engaging it. I've seen it happen enough to others, and it's happened to me.
But, again, I agree that no one hand position fits everyone.
Thank you for being civil in our discussion. Rare, and appreciated.
hey Sootch, I'm new to your channel and just wanted to know if you shoot hand loads? And if so are they your own loads? If they are maybe a vid on it.
@JustinBlue82 Hey Justin, I do reload but for most of my reviews I use HPR ammo. It shoots so clean and reliable that it makes the video quality better. I'll be doing some reloading videos soon. Thanks Bro~ Sootch00
@sootch00 how is the accuracy compared to the full sized 5" government? This is the deciding fact for my dad so please help.
