  • The same thing started happening to me, and I was trying very hard to keep up. Now I'm very ill, and I just can't do it. I'm hoping people will understand. You can get really caught up in the YouTube madness. I only have about 289 subs, and I can't keep up with everyone anymore. I couldn't before I became ill. Just do what you can. People will understand. There is life outside of YouTube. :o) Sending love & smiles from afar!

    (((Hugs))) to you & yours...

    Paula

  • I think it's a very universal problem once you get to a certain level of interactivity here on YT. I found by just really allowing myself NOT to watch everything I sub to and to not feel an obligation, it's just easier to deal with. :)

    Thanks!

  • I feel an obligation to certain people. People who were here for me in the beginning. Yet, I still have a life to live. I know they do too. You're absolutely right. It's a universal problem. I just limit myself to a certain amount of time, and do what I can within that time. The rest will be there for tomorrow.

Sending love & smiles from afar!

  • Thank you!! I've been kind of limiting my time here a little bit. And realizing I can only get to certain people. I try, but kind of balance out a variety of things. I try to watch the ppl who are true to me, also keeping in mind how much time some ppl put into making their videos. It's a give and take thing for me, and some ppl who GIVE a lot more to their vids will get my time a little bit easier.

  • Awesome! You have a Dwight bobblehead! I wish I had one.

  • Dwight = cool.

Well not really cool, but the bobblehead is! :)

  • I very often wonder how other people manage to do so much on You Tube. There just aren't enough hours in the day! At least you're allowed to log into it at work. They took our accesses away even though we would only log in during our breaks (the b*st*rds!);)

  • Wow...A comment from the elusive Mr. Funny! Cool.

I can log in at work..they're not very strict with it..yet. But this video was made after hours. I usually don't vlo from work.

Why would those limeys take your access away??

  • Hey I love your work space because its really creative. I also love star wars and Darth Vader. Please accept my friend invite!!!

  • Thanks!

  • I'm not sure if this video was partly inspired by the message I sent you over the weekend, but yeah, I definitely feel ya there. I've been so busy with so many other things that I just don't have time for YT right now. It had to be pushed to the backburner while I take care of things that are much more important right now.

  • Actually Ryan, this video had been brewing for the good part of a week. Your email probably added to the idea of "What are we all doing?" Bummer that your vids are on the backburner. But keep your account open. We'll be here! :)

  • Well I make few videos anymore-maybe a couple a month. And I was pretty ruthless with culling my subscription list a while ago-mainly because I liked to watch every video of everyone I subbed to + felt overwhelmed when I had too many to watch. I find it less pressure to not be subbed and just drop by now and then!

I don't know how some of you manage it, I have no job and rarely go out and I still find it too much sometimes!

  • It's good to know I'm not the only one who felt overwhelmed! I used to be a lot pickier with who i subbed too, and then fell into that trap. I like the idea of just dropping by on occassion! :)

  • Last post... But you have 500 subs. Every video you ake you get an average of 250 to 300 views. Some comedians don't get a house that full. When we do youtube, it makes us feel like rock stars. You rule Gary.

  • It's truly amazing to me when you think of it terms of numbers like that. I'd say you're more a rock star than I am! I'm more like John Denver or something! :)

  • Mr. Sunshine on my God damned shoulders John fucking Denver... (What movie?)

  • OMFG!!!! That's hilarious..but I have NO idea what movie that is from?

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy! LOL

Dude, we have to get together again!

  • Super Troopers! Yes.,. need more beer stil tiping co hereuntly.

  • LOL!

  • LOL at 4 video a week instead of 7. Yeah, I think you need to scale back.

  • Ha ha! You think? Suddenly I was like, "When did this all happen?" LOL

  • Get to work shit head!

Right now I am having a Samuel Adams Black Lager. I am drinking one for you buddy. And as far as YouTube... It has given me life!

It is where we feel the need to create. Like I said to 21 cat. We shouldn't we be the next "Sunday Night Live"?

  • Sh*t head? Is poop a reacurring theme with you? I'll start calling you 1 guy 1 cup! LOL

I agree with this comment and the one you left on 21stCC's vid. This is a real place for us to be creative. You've spawned another video idea!

  • I know- my schoolwork is being neglected. And, my problem isn't making vids, as much as it is how much time I spend watching other folks! LOL!

Thanx for sharing, Gary- I'm with you, totally! *hugs*

  • Well, we luv ya for watching! :)

    *hugs!*

  • I feel your pain! I just got a chance to watch this. I haven't posted in...a while, and i'm getting "is everything ok?" emails. I have some things in the works, but...

    A. I tore my hamstring, last Tuesday, and really didn't feel like it. B. I've been working on my website (coming soon) and watching vids. Soooo..anyway...do what you've got to do. We'll still be here. :)

  • Thanks Allen...As you know, i get the occasional "Are you okay" email as well. :)

Sorry to hear about your hamstring....that sucks. Funny how life gets in the way, huh? I know my website has been severely ignored since April. I like your take on this...do what you got to do!

  • Yeah. I learned some painful math. 34 degrees + 30 yrs old + full sprint = excruciating pain. Maybe that's why I always make the kids stretch. DOH!

  • Well, it's never too late to learn the things that we're teaching our kids! LOL

  • Hey Gary! Yeah, I'd been feeling very much the same, and completely incapable of keeping up. I'm still kinda in that situation, but with my new account I can begin to scale up to capacity, when the opportunity eventually arises, rather than perpetually feel the need to scale back, or feel guilty about non-participation. Relax, and do what you feel rather than feel like there is an obligation. There is no obligation on you :)

  • Thanks Sammy!

I think this is just the natural progression of things for me as my numbers start to rise. I took the weekend off from it, dropped a couple of the subs that were weighing me down, and i feel a lot better about it. Good to have you back!

  • a cubical vlog! it is very difficult to get a balance, I too try to watch a lot of my subscribers too.. :¬D one of my last vids (a cuddle from Georgie and an announcment) said exactly the same thing... spending too much time with my addiction! :¬D

  • Yeah...there is a real balance to be found. And I think we have to accept that we just possibly can't do it all. The fact that we all call this an addiction should raise a red flag! LOL

    ((HUGS))

  • it should but like true addicts we wont accept it till we have lost our entire family and our house to the beast that is YouTube.. :¬D

  • Ha ha!

    Problem? What problem? LOL

    ;)

  • LOL, err...yes my name is Samantha and I am a YouTube addict...Say it with me brother! :¬D

  • Hello Samantha!

    LOLOL

  • Yep this is a get swamped week, you put it up 2 days ago and I'm just getting to it. Biggest way I manage is I don't sub back to everyone who subs me. I feel mean but I can't do it. I keep my sub to list as short as I can 66 at the moment. I do run through my subscriber list and watch their stuff when I can. If I sub I commit to watch and comment on all. When Hannah goes to nursery in January I'll have 2 hours a day yippee! Cheers, Lesley

  • I do that too with my subs....and its hard not resubbing to everyone. Like you, i feel like subbing is a commitment. I'm actually thinking of unsubbing to the ones i don't watch, even though it might upset some...It's hard to balance.

  • Depends on whether the ones you don't watch just want to have the numbers as in look I have 500 subscribers. Or are they like me and it's all about enjoying conversation with people who have different life experiences and therefore points of view. I've made a couple of bad decisions in subs (hasty) and wish I could ditch those but so far I'm chicken! L

  • I've made those hasty decisions too! It's hard then when you unsub and they come back to you and ask why!

  • Funny I've also been slow to sub to some people (yourself included) because of the number and length of vids made each day/week. But when I have finally subbed I've realised that this is the interaction I enjoy more than many others. You do get to know more about people and faster with real vloggers rather than just the creative vids done or funny ones. Sometimes more is more ;-) L

  • Oh yeah..i agree with you! I do take my time to sub to ppl as well, and it is alarming when somebody posts a 10 minute video almost every day! To me though, I'd rather watch 1 well-done, thought out 10 minute video than 3 not so well done or uninspired videos. It sounds like we are all dealing with this!

  • I find it impossible to watch ALL videos, especially those that post more than one a day. I have to judge a lot of them on the titles on rather to watch. YT has definitely replaced TV for me. I give YT a couple of hours in the AM and maybe an hour at night..after that ..I step away from the PC, lol!

  • I think that's what we really have to do is just give YT a certain amount of time in our day. I use my laptop which has a home on my coffee table for all of my YouTube stuff. So some times its easier for me to just reply to comments, etc. when i'm doing other things like watching tv or reading. But I think stepping away from it is a good, healthy idea!

  • I don't have so much to keep up with on youtube. I mean, I have 16 subscribers and I keep up with a handful of people's videos. But, I also own six domains, including two forums of my own and multiple ones I go to that belong to other people's plus all my friend's journals, my livejournal friend's list and such. I'm also active in a swap community and watch tv most nights with my Love. So there's definitely a strain for time on the net in general.

  • That's one thing I didn't touch on...A lot of us have other non-YT aspects of our lives that still include the internet. I have a url that I've been doing for 4 or 5 years that I've pretty much, and sadly, ignored since around April. Very good point. :)

  • Dude, I totaly understand what you're getting at when it comes to trying to find a balance. It seems like I'm either neglecting YouTube or my geographic life or both.

I think for me it's a matter of being more productive in both aspects of my life. Just mannage my time better and stay on task and away from silly distractions.

  • You're "georgraphic life" -- I like that. As opposed to your one in cyberspace, which is a really odd concept when you think about it.

In the end, I think finding the productivity comes with just prioritizing things and realizing i won't have time to visit EVERYBODY's videos. I feel a lot more relieved already! :)

  • I empathize and sympathize Gary. It's okay you have my permission to have a life. LOL! Relax, I'm going to sleep right now, just so you can take a breather. LOL!!

  • Thanks Darl! Knowing everybody's sleep schedules would really help me with knowing when to take a break! LOL

  • Well we know I don't get into making videos, but I do love watching and my favorite part is commenting. This does still take a LOT of time. I have let things I love like movies, reading and genealogy go to pot in the past year. I am making myself not watch as much YT so I can still get the commenting done. The last couple of weeks I have been watching more movies, and am getting back into reading. We'll see how that goes! ♥

  • That's kind of what i realized. So much of what I love to do i noticed I'm putting on the backburner for YT. Now granted, I LOVE making videos and taking part in the whole YT community, but my art, reading, movies, etc, is getting cast aside (not to mention house work!). I've been trying to set more time aside for those simple things this week, and suddenly I can come back to YT and feel like it's more balanced.

  • The trick is going to be seeing how long we can keep it up! Maybe there ought to be some sort of 12 step program? Good luck on your end. :)

  • But who has TIME for a 12 step program? LOL

I just think by scaling back a bit the time will find me. :)

  • I don't know if you have noticed but it's rare I do more than 1 video a week. I find it very time consuming and I love watching others videos. I don't vlog so there is always editing involved. I'm also making mine shorter now so they are not a hindrence lol!

  • See, I don't mind MAKING the videos at all...that's what's hard for me. I actually really enjoy it. But I think that just scaling back a bit, I'll spend less time editing, less time replying to comments, and have a little more time to watch videos! Why is everybody on this website so cool!? ((HUGS))

  • I finally got to watch this been in my quicklist since this morning.

I once again have made 3 more vids but they are short and little editing and somehow manage to answer most if not all comments, but I read them all.

I have set up another channel to separate the comments/videos just for fun (barringtonchannel) see vid response.

I have been watching vids and between watching , answering and making responses its now 7.30pm. During the week I go to work to get a break in the evenings. LOL

  • It's good that work gives you a break from YT! LOL

  • I think i'm going to have to do yet another response to this topic, further clogging up your subscriptions page. Sorry!!

It's something i've been thinking about as well.

I only uploaded 3 videos yesterday, so i don't expect anyone will bother, or have time to watch it anyway!! :)

  • Ha ha! I did see that you had a huge 3 part scenic vlog! I plan to watch that one tonight over some pumpkin spice beer after a long day of yard work on a cold windy fall day. Andy, i think we both know the balance, and still have a love for doing this...There are times when sometimes you just have to put up a lot of videos! LOL

  • Yay, love the setting! :) You have a good point and that is really something to think about. I won't easily come up with an answer, though!

  • I see this setting every day! I thought it was good to do this topic from there since work takes up SO much of my time during the day.

When ya get that answer, can you let me know? LOL

  • Great vlog Gary, and I understand your point. Try not to feel guilty about doing "your own" things.

Like the screensaver btw! cheers, Jeroen.

  • Thanks Jeroen! There are certain ppl i try not to miss (you included), but even then i fail occasionally! Life outside of YT has to come first! :)

  • You're right! Thanks!:)

  • Cheers Jeroen! :)

  • I totally hear ya! I'm not quite to the point of becoming in any way overwhelmed yet, but I can see it coming. Musical deprivation is no fun, though! I know that a lot of times I find that I'm happier when I'm outside and doing stuff that I want to do for myself. In the end it really is all about the balance.

  • Yeah. As much as i love the community and making the videos, I've realize how important these other aspects of me or hobbies i do, such as music, writing, art, etc, need to fit into the mix a little bit more. The thing is, if we don't do the balance, we'll burn out and none of us will be here next month!

  • Gary your video echoes my thoughts over the past few months. When I make those travel videos, it take a great deal of time to edit them and then it takes all night to keep up with the comments. So, I say make videos when you feel like it but don't try to make one everyday unless you just want to. When it becomes a chore and not fun, it's time to slow down! By the way, I like the office. -Jim

  • Thanks Jim! As I spend more time tweaking on my videos, they do take more time to make. But I need to do this for myself...not for some self-induced obligation. I've also given up trying to video journal every aspect of my life, even though I'd like to. I just have to pick and chose and do stuff when and if I have the time.

  • I've struggled with the balance for awhile now. I feel guilty when I miss watching someone's videos. There are those I watch without fail, I try to catch up on the weekends. Life took a turn recently and I was gone for a few weeks. I gave up catching up.

  • That's kind of how i've been feeling...just give up on catching up. We all have lives outside of this website, and anybody worth a hill of beans will understand that when we miss a video or two or three! :)

  • Yes, I feel it, it comes and goes like waves. Sometimes i feel cought up, but really am I? I post once a week, lately it's not even been that much, because I just don't have the time. I'd rather do 1 video a week, and spend time commenting on other peoples videos, i really do enoy it, but there are times when it becomes overwhelming and I have thought, "where is the balnace, will there ever be one?" lol

  • It's pretty obvious I'm not the only one feeling this way! LOL

For me, I LOVE making videos as well as watching them and taking part in the community! So that's what gets tricky. If only my days were 30 hours instead of 24! LOL

  • I have to check out your channel, I'm missing way to many vids of yours

  • It's easy to do though..i put out a lot of vids. We all do! I have your new york series to watch yet...I haven't blown you off...I just need to set some time aside and do a marathon...maybe over a nice glass of wine? ;)

  • Now the wine sounds good, I'll send you a bottle of Chateau Lafitte Rothschild.

  • Wohoo!! :)

  • I think it is a natural progression on YouTube to accumulate more subscriptions than you can watch. By checking out comments and video responses to videos, you find more cool people. I crossed the threshold about a month ago and it is still a bit of a struggle. I don't want to skip videos by people I'm subscribed to, but there just isn't time!

  • Exactly! So what does one do? I tend to pick and chose but do have my favorites who i'll practically drop everything I'm doing to watch if they come out with something new. I also tend to watch videos by ppl who DON'T make a lot of videos (a few a month only) right away as well. :)

  • "...ironically making a video about scaling back..." The irony was not lost on us ;^)

My schedule is different each day and week (sometimes working at home, sometimes out of town for a meeting, etc.) so I often get behind on my viewing and then feel guilty, but I probably watch 25-30 vids/day.

As to making them... Even when I've "slowed down" it's still at least one per week. Yes, it takes over one's life.

  • Thanks Ken. I tend to overstate the obvious! LOL

When you think about it, 25-30 vids a day is a LOT of time if each of those vids is around 5 minutes. Of course, a lot of my video watching time is what used to be TV time..

  • I was moving for 2 or 3 days, and I know what you mean about feeling behind and stuff. *HUG*

  • Thanks Justin! And here's the thing, WHY do we feel behind? This should be fun.

And if you make a comment about feeling somebody's behind being fun..well, I'll send you over to doug's channel! LOL

  • I've slowed right down at the moment. I guess it's a case of vloggers-block or something, I just can't seem to get any ideas going for an interesting video. Obviously there is my continuing adventure (probably just interesting for me), but sometimes, it's nice to just sit back and watch for a bit, just dipping ones toe in the water every now and again. Like you said, it's about balance.

  • Thanks Gary. I've noticed you haven't posted as much, but it does come and go, doesn't it? As our personal lives get busier, this side of things has to slip. I think you need to let us all in more on your "continuing adventure." Inquiring minds want to know! LOL "The Life and Times of BradThunder." LOL

  • Gary, you do as little or as much as you want, when you want to do it. I'm addicted to YT, neglecting other responsibilities, and I don't even post videos! I can't imagine how people like you and Beth can keep up. I think you feel more obligation than you actually have, which is none at all. Do what's best for you.

  • I've been realizing how so many of my household responsibilities are getting cast aside (laundry, house cleaning) etc. I ALWAYS feel like i'm playing catch up. And YES, this obligation that I talk about is 100% self-imposed. :)

  • I don't think you need to feel obligated, you should post a video and then only when you have time, respond to comments, when you feel up to another comment answering post another one.

I think 3-4 a week is plenty. Its very hard to watch all the videos by anyone when he posts daily, and then you feel bad for not watching.

  • I try to watch all the videos on my list but as I told you before, some people just post way too much videos.

when someone posts 3 a day he should know its almost impossible to follow them all.

I have ~115-120 people I am subbed to, just imagine if they even posted every 2 days, I would need to quit my job.

  • I decided when I started vlogging to limit myself to one per week, and last week I posted two videos, so this week I am giving my subs the weekend off :-))

  • Thanks Ran! I think you and i have discussed some of this in IM. It really is a fine balance between creating content, watching other ppl's content, and then taking part in the dialogue. The more vids i make and as my traffic builds, i tend to not watch as many videos. It's just purely about time management. I really appreciate the support!

  • I just watched you! I don't personally think theres anything wrong with walking away from the putor to do 3-D life. When ya get back online just watch the new videos. Things seem to happen pretty fast on here so I don't think you would miss much. Shit why am I saying this to you? 'm gonna go tell Curt. LOL

  • Huey, I need more coffee before you come to me with this.

*sips 1st round slowly from Tubegranny mug*

  • LOL!!!

  • Who's this Curt guy i keep hearing about? And how could you tell him about it, doesn't he live in Compton?

Oh gosh. What have I missed! LOL

  • I totally get what you're saying. I even spoke about this a day or two ago. As for how I balance it, I was getting up earlier and going to bed later, but I've started realizing I don't have to watch EVERY video. Some people put out 2-3 a day and they can (not many subs/comments, etc) and I try to choose one to watch. But I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking of unsubbing because I don't want all their stuff clogging up my sub page, etc. Will email you about this.

  • Thank Beth. How are we suppozed to party like Rock Starz if we're on YT all the time (I drank some Rock Star drink the other morning and thought of you! LOL)

I have a few subs that have been doing the same thing..its really hard to pick and choose...and quite often, the good ones get missed because of this!

  • Gary, you and I have been going through the same exact thing this week. It's been a few months since I was able to keep up with all my subscriptions but I do try to watch a smattering of everyone's. But this past week I was way busy with work and had editing to do so I fell too far behind to catch up. As you find more and more wonderful people it gets harder to keep up with them all. And we both treasure dialogue and want to respond to all the comments, but also keep up with offline life!

  • So I totally respect your plan to scale back the number of postings - this way I can watch a higher percentage of them and not feel like I've missed out on anything. :)

  • Thanks Mike! What I find happening is the more videos i make, and the more video traffic i get as my sub base builds, the less time I have to watch other ppl's videos. Luckily there are a lot of subs/commentors who just watch videos and don't make them! LOL

  • good for you anni.

uhmm, strong the force is in this one much...yes.

  • Thanks Rem. The force IS strong with you as well.

  • I also have scaled back considerably - I found I was feeling overwhelmed, too, and wasn't able to get anything done outside of YouTube. There definitely needs to be a balnace, but most importantly this experience should be fun. If I travel now even for a couple of days I've learmed that I don't need to spend hours and hours trying to catch up on the scads of videos made in my absense (a futile effort).

  • Thanks Leslie...It's good to know i'm not the only one who was feeling this way. And my housework wasn't getting done at all because of YT, and that needs to change.

And if it's not fun, they why are we here, right?

(I'll always catch your vids though! You're my international valentine from the midwest! LOL)

  • i cook and clean while my stuff uploads. although i imagine that yours doesnt take as long to upload...lol

    time management...pacing ...

    a little sleep deprivation...

    supportive friends

  • I usually watch vids as mine are uploading, so once again, stuck in YT! LOL

And I think all of us on YT know a thing or two about sleep deprivation! LOL

  • Now see...that's an inefficient use of time because videos load more slowly while you've got one uploading. Unless you have a faster internet connection than me in which case I am envious... :)

  • Ha ha! I think it probably makes my upload time a little slower, but I'm still able to watch videos no problem!

  • I make videos when I have down time between photo gigs. It's simple as that.

BTW, where did you get that Beatles mug....I want one of those.

  • I got the Beatles mug in Las Vegas this summer at the gift shop at the Mirage. I saw the LOVE show there. It was AMAZING!!!

  • I am so jealous!! Since I have yet to see that in vegas. Hopefully, I will someday.

  • It's amazing!!

Btw, I just saw Across the Universe again last night. Gosh, it was SO good! :)

  • I bet! Though I have yet to see Across the Universe. Maybe I will somneday.

  • Oh yes. It's brilliant! :)

  • I just go with the flow. Some days I spend a lot of time on YT, some days less. I've learned to pick & chose what I watch. Just cause I've subbed to someone doesn't mean that I'll be interested in everything they do. For example, I passed over everyone's Halloween videos because I'm just not interested. I also pass on commenting if there are already a lot of comments and I've just got an "atta boy" Oh, it also helps to be retired, I highly recommend it. aloha :)

  • I like the Go With The Flow attitude! :) And it really is our right to pick and choose. Why watch something when you know you won't enjoy it?

I will always try to comment on something, that's just my nature, just to let ppl know i was there...but this again is each person's perogative.

Ah, I'll retire SOMEDAY. I need to save up for it first! LOL

  • You're right to do what you're doing. There is a life beyond YT. I mean, that's a helluva lot of hours you are putting in at work. Time to rein in and relax a little.

  • Thanks! Work is work, you know? I work a normal work day, but you add in a commute, getting ready, lunch, etc, it becomes MUCH more than 8 hours. Pulling back will be good for me, and i have a feeling a lot of ppl won't even realize I'm doing it! :)

  • Yah dude take a break or cut down your video output.I've been meaning to start vlogging myself but I end up just checking out all my subscriptions lol so I understand the hectic nature of it all. Love your office set up btw, I have starwars stuff displayed around my desk too.

  • What's up THX?

In the weeks to come, I want to do more of a tour on my desk at work and show some of my SW and other collectables that I'm quite proud of. :)

  • gary have you seen the upgrades the MacBook has this week? I had a geek at the apple store show me all the neat applications. gary take some time and just chill and do what ya need to do, we will still be here for ya!!

  • I haven't seen the new OS in real life, just the demos on their website. I plan on getting the upgrade, but will probably wait until after the holidays to: A) Save up for it. B) Let them work a few bugs out of it. It looks amazing!

  • It's about balance, but it's also about "cycles". I go through time periods of lots of YT oriented activity and then back off for awhile...and then back to YT...and so on. I read some great advice once, I don't remember where, but it said, "Lather, Rinse, Repeat." Words to live by, really.

  • It really does all come back to hair with you, one way or another. Usually it's about facial hair, but this time around its about hair maintenance. I can appreciate that! :) I agree with you about the cycles. I had a slump there for a while where I didn't want to post, and then a period where I was doing one a day. I'm not sure how i'd balance it if I had a wife and kids like you do!

  • I really get what you're saying here. I felt overwhelmed lately with two jobs and the vids and trying to keep up with ideas for vids etc. I also appreciate that you respond to everyone but sometimes I have trouble figuring out if you are responding to myself or someone else. I sometimes like to use the pereson's screen name and then a colon when responding. For example, anakin1814: thanks for the comment blah blah blah. My sub list is getting too long too.

  • Missdiviine: I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one feeling overwhelmed. I really hesitated putting this video up, but realize it's a very universal thing we are all feeling at this stage in our time on YouTube.

  • I know you saw Andy's "It's your channel" video. Take a page from him, and make your channel what works for you. Slow down on the production and enjoy life. You'll come back here in a fresher state and the vids you do will be even better, I'd imagine.

It's ok to live life. Outside YouTube, I mean. We used to do that. I remember.

    -dan'l

  • And here's the irony: the more i enjoy life, the more i have to YouTube about! Ha ha! ;)

  • Gary, I can't imagine how you *could* make the time to put up a video every day. You certainly don't need to for me -- I enjoy your channel, but I have trouble keeping up with new content on my subscriptions too. :-)

  • Thanks Dan. I think we all like the content from our subs...but its hard to watch them all, even our favorites.

  • Hubby has a triple monitor system at work and a duel monitor at home.

    HUGGS

  • ((HUGS))

A triple monitor system? WOW! I'd like one of those huge widescreen monitors!

  • Relax a bit, listen to some music...when you come back, I'll be around to compliment your hair still. :)

  • And just think of how much longer my hair will be by then! LOL

  • I am gone from home 12 hours a day, too. I know exactly what you are saying. I could never watch all my subscriptions. I hope you don't get burned out on YT. Taking breaks once in a while are great.

So this explains why you didn't watch my Magic Kingdom vid. Don't waste your time with it, but if you get time in the future watch the last ten seconds of it, because I wave at you.

  • Blizzee: Yeah, I missed some of your Disney vids (and your ones on your thoughts on education). I am planning on doing a Blizzee Disney night though, as you know I have an interest in your trip since i'll be taking it in a few months!

  • Then wait on those, I have three more I am working on, one to MGM, one to Animal Kingdom and one with HIPPOS! I am still editing them down to around 5 minutes.

  • HIPPOS!! Woohoo! I know we're not doing the Animal Kingdom but it's all still interesting to me. There are certain friends I've made on here (yourself included), who i try not to miss their vids. Once in a while, it just takes some time to catch up! :)

  • Scaling back is a good strategy. As you know, I've been doing this a lot lately. I watch less, and I'm fervently holding to my vow to not post things more frequently than every other day. Would actually like to see myself space it out even more than that.

And if it's ironic that you've made a video on the topic, then it might be equally ironic that I'm here watching and leaving yet another one of my wordy comments.

  • Thanks Curt. I know you and I have talked about this at length. I think it's just healthy for what we need to accomplish in our lives outside of YT. And it's not quite as ironic that you commented on this video as the fact that I'm replying to it! LOL (And all y'all are coming out of the woodwork for this vid! I can't believe the comments! LOL)

  • I <3 dual monitors...I miss my last job that introduced me to them. It's so much easier to have a dedicated email screen! :P

I missed your daily vlogging! Turn off comments and only vlog to me! jkjk

  • Actually, my screen on the right is for email, but also for the all the different menu pallettes in all my programs. it works great!

I'm sorry you miss me! I am still here. Okay, private vlogs to you now only! LOL

  • Gary, ironically (as your were taliking about about doing less videos) I found that one your best videos yet, you talked a lot of honesty - it is not easy watching everyone you would like and it is a matter of balance.

  • ok, it was late when I wrote this comment, I wasn't implying your other videos are not 'honest' but there was something about this one.

And so, down to just 3 or 4 videos per week! ;)

  • Yup...3 or 4 a week...but we'll see how long that lasts! LOL

  • Thanks steve. This was a hard topic to talk about for me as I didn't want to offend any of my regular viewers or the ppl i sub to. I suppose the "honesty" came from the fact that i addressed a topic that i've been thinking about a lot lately that wasn't exactly "easy" for me to address.

  • Sometimes i just combine the two , and just make the odd one at work . I'm not exactly a bulk video maker , so it's no problem for me , until they become more sophisticated , i always find some time to hook up and slap out a video . If you can call them that . Awesome workspace

  • Thanks JV. I wish I could make vids at work. This one was done a few hours after normal business hours. But for me, it would be hard to do it with ppl around anyway...and I'm not in my vlogger mental "place" when I'm at the office. :)

  • I don't know how you keep up , i only average about 10 comments a video , so it's no problem , you get a good number and make more videos , but i enjoy them so i'm glad you do . Feel free not to respond to this one , you need a break ;) . JV

  • Nah...I still have to respond! LOL

Trust me, there was a time when I had NOBODY commenting on my videos (for over 6 months!). The growth was gradual when suddenly i'm left wondering "When did YouTube take over my life?!" LOL

  • I know what you mean - it can consume you. I tend to go in fits and spurts. For example - I have been doing a TON of videos recently, but I'm taking this weekend completely away from the system to go do some photography and some yardwork. I don't feel bad if I don't watch all the videos from people I am subscribed to either- I pick and choose. Take it easy man. Steve

  • I think once i get it out of my head that I "owe" somebody a view i will find my balance. It certainly comes in spurts. Last week I really only felt like making those two videos. The week before i had a lot to say and made 5 or 6. For me, i'll only make a video if i have something to talk about, otherwise I feel like i'm just wasting ppl's time.

  • you go into fits? You having fits right now? hahahahhahaa

  • Actually, to be honest, we all put out TOO many vids. Don't feel you have to watch EVERYONE'S. I do my best to watch yours, but since you put out more than others... I sometimes skip one. I don't feel guilty. Neither should you!

  • Thanks Vic...I know what you mean...Even if you really enjoy somebody's videos, it is hard to watch them all. I appreciate this comment.

  • I think you should unsub from everyone except me because I made NO Halloween videos. That should ease the burden. I'm just looking out for you, man.

I still watch TV. The Office, My Name is Earl, etc...

  • Victor, you are scary enough in your normal videos that you don't need Halloween to do it for you! LOLOL (sorry, i couldn't resist the jab!)

I don't watch nearly as much TV. The Office is a must though, although I've kind of stopped watching Earl.

  • I can't get this to load... a sign that I should be spending my time elsewhere? Nah. I'll catch ya later, darlin!

  • Thanks for commenting anyways! LOL

  • Do what you want, how you want. Just know I'll still be here to e-stalk you. Kinda creepy, huh? :)

  • Yay, another e-stalker! :)

  • Just remember Real Life comes 1st. As a subscriber I miss the people when they dont make a video. Just to see if they are ok etc. But I dont want you to feel overwhelmed *hugs*

  • Thank you! :)

That's the thing though--i'm not going away...ppl will still have plenty of updates...I just need to slightly ease off...you guys probably won't even notice. :)

  • I haven't quite figured it out yet. I've done what you have so far - and I don't have a lot of subs but still YT takes up a lot of my time. And I don't even make a lot of videos. So I can just imagine your dilemma. My other addiction is also stickam and the combo is dangerous - lol. I'm sure we'll figure it out.

  • Danny: I used to spend A LOT of time on Stickam as well. I just found that it sucked up so much of my time...and i'd have these late nights (i remember going to bed once at 6:30 AM after an all night stickam chat). So even if i'm home and not doing anything, i just think its healthy to watch a movie, read, ect and get away from the computer.

  • You made a zombie movie? Man, you got a busy life!

Yeah, I like responding...but it is only going to get worse...
