@AlexsiMAC If you simply want to connect to the internet through your gateway / router / modem you just need to google /etc/network/interfaces and throw in resolve.conf as well while you are at it!
no some of them ... debian isn't just naked but a very well balanced distribution. Of course if you don't care about learning about linux you can always use some 'idiot-proof-click linux distribution' ...
"Idiot-proof? Get away, stupid gentoo elitist, iv'e installed and configured gentoo with kde all by myself, and i still love and use ubuntu for my everyday use, fck off....
I prefer Debian because of excellent security and stability. If you want to be more mainstream you stick with the testing release (who is very stable).
Debian is great because you can always trust it to be working and upgrades are as painless as it can be. To me Debian is what every GNU/Linux distro should be - stable, "standarized", good quality and got excellent support.
well ubuntu is based on debian so it is very debian-like system
a 100% debian live cd is "knoppix" whic his also aviable as dvd, but the editor made very much additions and tweaks so it would also not represent the original debian feeling (just because kde3 is used rather than gnome)
i said the editor made some additions, but the base system is debian...he did not changed anything in the system files like ubuntu so knoppix is 100%compatible with any debian package ;)
it IS close to wubi. that's convergent evolution for ya... (thought Wubi was the only linux installer to work in windows, too). The only difference is that this installs GRUB, reboots the computer, and allows you to set up Debian. Wubi installs inside the Windows file system, first, and then reboots to Wubi to finish the job.
Lol pretty dumb it clearly states "you need to reboot to continue" so pretty much its installing it when windows isn't running, might as well just restart and then install :] Oh well, anyways can't wait to try out debian soon :]
a new installer that makes it easier for Windows users to run the distro. win32-loader. runs within Microsoft Windows and updates the boot loader so that you can restart into the Debian installer. This gets round the potentially confusing task of changing the boot order in the BIOS.

why debian?
Isnt every almost every linuxdistribution based on Debian? So why just use the "naked" Linux?

Yes it is. Official Debian Live images are available from the Debian ftp server.

Where can I get this Win32 loader from and do I have to burn it from a CD
Missingno3000 3 years ago
1. You can download it from goodbye-microsoft (DOT) com.
2. No. You simply download and run the program.
