@mouloudo I understand you point, but I was just explaining that even though more consistently the best jumpers are white, Sotomayor has 17 of the top 25 jumps of all time, including the WR by 3cm, not 1. Even though he's not as decorated as Stefan Holm (who doesn't even hold the NR for Sweden), his consistency over 2:40m should speak for itself.

@jcreamx23 Umm, the US has won 13/16 of their attempts in the Olympics for Men's basketball, and 6/8 for women's. Don't even try to say that other countries "usually" beat us. We rarely lose in the Olympics for basketball. hell, we won 7 titles in a row from 1936 to 1968.
@EndlersaurusRex youre talking to the wrong person, i already said the US dominates at basketball. as far as the US having tons of untapped talent in the NBA and NFL that could compete in the olympics, we'll have to agree to disagree. i think a lot of those guys, if they trained from a young age like everybody else, could be getting medals. i think a few of them could go in and compete right now. some people are natural athletes and dont need much training to excel in diff sports.

As for training from a young age, yeah a lot of the talent in the NBA/NFL could be used in other sports (especially NFL in sprints), but I don't think Lebron would be world class at the jumps. The reason he looks so amazing in the NBA is because he's big but moves with such power; his actually vertical isn't a ridiculous 50 inches.

@BecomeB theres more than enough physical talent in the NFL & NBA to get medals in world competitions. if these guys had been training from age 15 at high jumping or competitive running like the olympic athletes they could definitely compete. could Lebron jump in the olympics right now with no training and get a gold in something? i dont know. if its based on raw physical ability i would say yes. we have some of the best raw athletes in the world in our NBA & NFL.
@jcreamx23 In that case, that they would have train that sport for years yes then they could win, but that's called genes. Theres more than enough genes in NBA or NFL to do that. But no way that they could go now and just win, because most of those things required good technique. I mean even if James can jump higher or have better vertical he won't win high jump. And he could lead sprint in 20 meters but after 60 meter he would be behind. That stuff is 60-70% about technique.
@BecomeB things like the high or the long jump, while having some technical aspects, depend -- at the level of elite competition -- on raw physical talent. things like that are 90% genes and 10% technical. learning to be 1st out of the gate or timing your jump so you start your ascent at exactly the right time are things one can learn relatively easily. i dont think it would take too much time for someone like lebron james to be able to compete at an international level at things like that.
@jcreamx23 I quess you haven't ever do those sports. I do both and I can tell you that James can't win. Of course he could perform very well, but he can't beat few best. And reason is that he lose so much in technique. In long jump landing technique is critical and in high jump that case is even bigger! In 100m it doesn't mean so much, but still a lot. My quess in time is that if James would choose jump thing it would take about 2 years to get his nervous system to required level
@jcreamx23 Biggest problem would be that he haven't really ever learned how to run with spikes. If he would go there now and compete I tell you what would happen. In long jump he would lose 50cm in landing, 25 cm because of step sign(or what it is in english?)
and other 25 cm because of other stuff like look where plank is and so on.
And correct those problems to that level where he would compete it take at least 2-3 years.
@jcreamx23 This is a highly uneducated response. Every field event in track and field depends much more on technique than you say, especially the high jump, pole vault, and discus. Raw physical talent allows you to succeed in such events at a younger age; to get to the elite level you need to be technically supreme.
Lebron would not be of international caliber in the high, long, or triple jump unless he lost 60+ pounds and learned the technique, and even then, his vertical isn't the best.

@jcreamx23 Umm, the US has won 13/16 of their attempts in the Olympics for Men's basketball, and 6/8 for women's. Don't even try to say that other countries "usually" beat us. We rarely lose in the Olympics for basketball. hell, we won 7 titles in a row from 1936 to 1968.

@EndlersaurusRex youre talking to the wrong person, i already said the US dominates at basketball. as far as the US having tons of untapped talent in the NBA and NFL that could compete in the olympics, we'll have to agree to disagree. i think a lot of those guys, if they trained from a young age like everybody else, could be getting medals. i think a few of them could go in and compete right now. some people are natural athletes and dont need much training to excel in diff sports.

@jcreamx23 Sorry I misread your comment. I do know, tat at least for Beijing, we had Jame, Bryant, Wade, and Howard all competing, so we do send our good player.
As for training from a young age, yeah a lot of the talent in the NBA/NFL could be used in other sports (especially NFL in sprints), but I don't think Lebron would be world class at the jumps. The reason he looks so amazing in the NBA is because he's big but moves with such power; his actually vertical isn't a ridiculous 50 inches.

@jcreamx23 Well example highest jumpers ain't in NBA, Best Dunkers have highest verticals than NBA players so what would guys like Terry Cournoyea or Haneef Munir do in jumping stuff... But Lebron ain't win any competition. I bet he can't beat Bolt in running, he could beat Bolt in 20 or 40 meters but in 100 he have no chance. And he surely can't win marathon or anything like throwing the hammer.
He would be fast, but cmon. He probably don't train with sprinter spikes...

@jcreamx23 In that case, that they would have train that sport for years yes then they could win, but that's called genes. Theres more than enough genes in NBA or NFL to do that. But no way that they could go now and just win, because most of those things required good technique. I mean even if James can jump higher or have better vertical he won't win high jump. And he could lead sprint in 20 meters but after 60 meter he would be behind. That stuff is 60-70% about technique.

@BecomeB things like the high or the long jump, while having some technical aspects, depend -- at the level of elite competition -- on raw physical talent. things like that are 90% genes and 10% technical. learning to be 1st out of the gate or timing your jump so you start your ascent at exactly the right time are things one can learn relatively easily. i dont think it would take too much time for someone like lebron james to be able to compete at an international level at things like that.

And reason is that he lose so much in technique. In long jump landing technique is critical and in high jump that case is even bigger! In 100m it doesn't mean so much, but still a lot. My quess in time is that if James would choose jump thing it would take about 2 years to get his nervous system to required level

@jcreamx23 Biggest problem would be that he haven't really ever learned how to run with spikes. If he would go there now and compete I tell you what would happen. In long jump he would lose 50cm in landing, 25 cm because of step sign(or what it is in english?)
and other 25 cm because of other stuff like look where plank is and so on.
And correct those problems to that level where he would compete it take at least 2-3 years.
And James... well he's vertical is far from best.

@jcreamx23 This is a highly uneducated response. Every field event in track and field depends much more on technique than you say, especially the high jump, pole vault, and discus. Raw physical talent allows you to succeed in such events at a younger age; to get to the elite level you need to be technically supreme.
Lebron would not be of international caliber in the high, long, or triple jump unless he lost 60+ pounds and learned the technique, and even then, his vertical isn't the best.
