I guess in the end we all do what we can to keep our hay burners!! I have a swamp now with all of this rain we are getting, and the First cutting was only 185 bales on 6 acres, so we need to play catch up!! No Hay stores here to go and buy from :O( It is all up to US. So U are Lucky. REALLY!!
185 bales on just 6 acres? We baled our 5 acres once and got less than 50 bales, and it was too much work because if we didn't turn and rake and turn and rake, we couldn't get the moisture out of the bits of clover growing amongst the grass. We ended up feeding it to cows and now we just mow the pasture when it gets too tall and let the horses graze. We spend about $1400 per year in hay to feed 3 horses.
