I work at a mazda dealership in the service dept. what most people don't know is that the engine's redline limit is actually around 15k. the only reason it only goes up to 8700 is because it would never pass emissions. but if somehow the full potential of the rotary could be used it would absolutely kill many cars that are similar in performance with its redline limit now.
@ElMojaoFrijolero Its been noted that the RENESIS will Literally tear itself apart due to its exhaust pulses. The way the combustion burns in much different than that of older 13b's but thats not to say it cant rev up high.

I like both cars. I'm still driving my Tiburon gt v6 and she is still fast. It's the price for the 3.8 your spending 27,000 to 30,000. For the Rx8 baseline 24,500. The difference is the engine in the Gen. They are not selling the RX8 in the USA anymore and boy are they a hot looking car. Her is a question if you had $30,000...would you buy the Nissan Z370 over both of them?

The RX-8 is shifting too soon, I didn't hear the beep when the rpm gets into red. Because of that you get in too low rpm on your next gear and don't have enough power. Also at the start you should rev up to make a quick start.
RX-8 pretty slow to begin with, my 2010 Tundra on 35's is faster then an RX-8, I guess they look pretty cool, but I'd put my $35,000 into a used G37 that has torque.

BUT I'm about 99% sure there in a similar class, well at least the 370z is which is the glammed out version is the G37. Both are Rear drive, front engine, manual, 2+2 (not the 370z),sport coupes. And yes the G37 is pretty heavy, but have u driven either the 370 or G37? TORQUE!!!! I drove the rx-8 and it's very balanced and fun to drive, but the 370 and G37 have that everyday torque and more interior room

one last thought in this months issue of Motor Trend they had a wounderfull break down of the genesis 3.8 track and turned in a best 1/4 of 14.4 compared to the 8,s 14.5 and a 0-60 of 5.4 to the 8's 5.6 . So in the end it will come down to driver skill when there is only 2/10th's on the line (Motor Trend VOL. 62,NO.7)

RX-8s gain next to nothing with bolt ons. Cars come with options? Did you know there were NO options with Genesis Coupes? It's strictly 2.0T base, premium and track. 3.8 base, GT and Track. You cannot single order options.
This is a 2.0T, a heavy, slow ass car that is better TQ than your RX-8 and similar HP. The results reflect that. A 3.8 will slap you.

@mehmehxxx I have yet to see a stock 1.3 RX-8 beat a Genesis 3.8. While the rotary does produce a good punch if it's not a good rolling start the Rx-8's lack of torque tends to cripple it in a launch. I'm sure it could beat the 2.0T but not the 3.8. I go to the track a few times a month and have raced RX-8's. It doesn't dominate the Rx-8 but it pulls ahead.

Thank you. Yes, you are close. The 1.3 puts out 237 hp but only 180-190 of that makes it to the wheels. The gen on the other hand makes 306 hp and puts down 250 whp and is only about 300lbs heavier. It was a close race for a reason

Auto rx8 wont allow you to reach past 7k rpm (loss of 2k rpm). I didnt hear a beep from redlining so I assume that it is the rx8 thats an auto. I want to see a video with a manual rx8. Auto rx8s aren't meant to race.

The main reason for the 9000 rpm redline is that the gearbox can't handle that much spinning and emissions.

The ratings might be a little off in the real world, but it still isnt a drastic difference. If you're so concerned about gas mileage, maybe YOU should look into a prius, instead of sports cars.

@ImportDreams500 But Rx-8 is underpowered and a joke from a straight line unless modded. Rotary is a gas guzzlin engine, but Rx-8 handles extremely well and the rotary has potential so those are pluses for Mazda.

I've had both an Rx8 & a Gen coupe , && I'll say that the Gen coupe is a much better car . The Rx8 just has better hadlinqs .. . Other than that , the Gen coupe is a much better Sports vehicle .

i have rx8 - it is real joy in corners, but it is not so grate in strait line....my gues is rx8 was manual ... genesis should be .5s faster in 1/4 - beating by about a car, but this race was hardly even an 1/8 mile long

The RX-8 is shifting too soon, I didn't hear the beep when the rpm gets into red. Because of that you get in too low rpm on your next gear and don't have enough power. Also at the start you should rev up to make a quick start.

RX-8 pretty slow to begin with, my 2010 Tundra on 35's is faster then an RX-8, I guess they look pretty cool, but I'd put my $35,000 into a used G37 that has torque.

@Jamzkangster I do agree with u 100% about a USED 335i, there fast as hell stock. BUT I'm about 99% sure there in a similar class, well at least the 370z is which is the glammed out version is the G37. Both are Rear drive, front engine, manual, 2+2 (not the 370z),sport coupes. And yes the G37 is pretty heavy, but have u driven either the 370 or G37? TORQUE!!!! I drove the rx-8 and it's very balanced and fun to drive, but the 370 and G37 have that everyday torque and more interior room

one last thought in this months issue of Motor Trend they had a wounderfull break down of the genesis 3.8 track and turned in a best 1/4 of 14.4 compared to the 8,s 14.5 and a 0-60 of 5.4 to the 8's 5.6 . So in the end it will come down to driver skill when there is only 2/10th's on the line (Motor Trend VOL. 62,NO.7)

Don't really want to rain on your parade, but this was a 2.0T, noticeable by the lack of LED side mirrors and stuffed exhaust note.
A 2.0T will do 0-60 in 7 seconds or sligthly less, similar to a RX-8. An AT 3.8 is a 5.4 5.5 0-60 mph with a soft 2000 RPM brake boost.

I own a 3.8 MT. RX-8s do not compare. All the AT needs to do is stand on the brakes and gas, launch and you're history.
RX-8s gain next to nothing with bolt ons. Cars come with options? Did you know there were NO options with Genesis Coupes? It's strictly 2.0T base, premium and track. 3.8 base, GT and Track. You cannot single order options.
This is a 2.0T, a heavy, slow ass car that is better TQ than your RX-8 and similar HP. The results reflect that. A 3.8 will slap you.

Now I'm not arguing a modded 3.8, because if the genesis has pretty much anything done to it then it will most likely beat me, but as far as a stock one goes... sorry Genny fanboys, I'm faster with my little 1.3L

@mehmehxxx I have yet to see a stock 1.3 RX-8 beat a Genesis 3.8. While the rotary does produce a good punch if it's not a good rolling start the Rx-8's lack of torque tends to cripple it in a launch. I'm sure it could beat the 2.0T but not the 3.8. I go to the track a few times a month and have raced RX-8's. It doesn't dominate the Rx-8 but it pulls ahead.

Thank you. Yes, you are close. The 1.3 puts out 237 hp but only 180-190 of that makes it to the wheels. The gen on the other hand makes 306 hp and puts down 250 whp and is only about 300lbs heavier. It was a close race for a reason

Auto rx8 wont allow you to reach past 7k rpm (loss of 2k rpm). I didnt hear a beep from redlining so I assume that it is the rx8 thats an auto. I want to see a video with a manual rx8. Auto rx8s aren't meant to race.

If you are manual (rx8) should shift first few hears at 9k rpms (because otherwise you land in too low rpms next gear)
