  • Dude how do you get such low tunings and on all these different songs? Do you have to like change the truss rod all the time or something? Your guitar's neck must get pretty fucked up right?

  • at 3:57 the two chords you play are totally wrong, can't you hear ?

  • Nice job

  • gojira is a great metal band , and your version inspires me to play some gojira ;D

  • Okay, one question. On the pinch harmonic, where exactly do you place your picking thumb? Because I have a 2H setup instead of single coils.

  • something that confuses me... at 0:23 ,I play *on the 6th string- > 3200 3200 0 3*pinch harmonic* 320

is that right or am I doing it wrong? amazing cover by the way

  • does anyone know a good place to find tabs for this?

  • ultimate guitar. the guitar pro ones are good. You can use this one program called tux guitar to open them. and its free so you dont gottapay for guitar pro

  • @WarriorOfWoW

songsterr.i guess cause you get playback on how the instrument is played

  • This is such a fucking awesome song

  • Dude, what tuning do you play in when you play and what fret/string do you squeel on!

  • This song is in D standard, and the pinch harmonic is on the 3rd fret 6th string

  • Hey, how u do the "Biiiip" like in 0:40 ? :s i want to do that!

  • ita a harmonic, not sure if its a natural or pinch harmonic hes useing, but I do it with a pinch harmonic

  • search up pinch harmonics or youtube, its basically hitting the string with your thumb just after you hit it with the plectrum

  • Fucking great song, nice cover dude.

  • great cover, i think there is juste too many slide ^^

  • man i need the tabs very bad!! can u send them to me plz?

  • I love Gojira, and your covers are orgasmic.

  • lol agreed your guitar souns like poop but still a good cover, nice job.

  • Hellz yeah dude nice cover!

  • The sound sucks ! but you play it very well good job !

  • Good Cover, what tuning you in?

  • D-standard so its DGCFAd

  • Nice play, next time you should play it standing.

this song is awesome, i dont understand how you can play it without crying or jumping ^^

  • Those pick harmonics you're doing sound flawless...

How exactly are you doing them?

  • to make the pinch harmonic you've basically got to hit the string with your thumb just a milisecond after you hit the string with your plectrum, jus type in "how to do pinch harmonics" on youtube and there should be a few vids showing you, gotta make sure you choose the higher rated ones because the some ones are shit

  • Well I have the basics down and can do them, just they never seem to have the same sound as Gojira. It's just harmonic picked on second string A, and then you bend it, right? Cuz it never sounds high enough in tone.

  • well now that i've persisted with them i can do them on the bottom E-string on the third fret mainly, its like you sorta hit it with your thumb and push down on to the next string but dont pick it, its really akward to explain, sorry if this doesnt make sense

  • I dunno I guess I'll just have to keep at it.

  • im sure theres some vids on utube that'll help you with it, good luck and keep on practisin dude

  • Yeah, thanks man.

  • yh for some reason the 3rd fret on E string is a primal target lol

  • Hey dude, it sounds like the problem may be that you are not doing the harmonics on the right part of the string if the pitch is not high enough. Try doing them closer to the bridge, also maybe try and hit the harmonic with some real force, that also helps give it a more agressive sound. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that.

Also, you seem pretty knowledgeable on this stuff so I have a question. I got the whole pick scrape sound they do down, and it's cool and all, but I recently bought a Boss Death Metal distortion pedal, and that pretty much craps up the sound of the pick scrape, but makes everything else sound a lot better. Do you know if there is a way for me to fix this?

  • what settings do you have your pedal on then?

  • I keep everything pretty much at the middle.

  • ok basically what you wanna do is crank up the bass to full and the treb so its horizontal and facing to the right, keep the middle at about half way and that should help to bring out the heavier chugs and screaming highs, thus bringing out the pick-scrape

  • Alright and what do I do with the middle frequency?

I'll put it at the same place as middle and see what happens but thanks for the suggestion.

  • yeah jus put it half way up and thats pretty much it :)

  • Thanks, that did the trick. And it helped with the pick harmonics, so doubly awesome!

  • pleasure to help dude :) anything you need jus ask and i'll help if i can :)

  • So in the breakdown that starts around 4:38, how does that scraping sound work? is it just muting the strings and picking across them slowly, or are you getting harmonics somewhere?

  • Nevermind, got it...

  • you need some active pickups dude!.

    but still, nice cover.

  • great cover man, learning this on bass at the min, great fun to play!

  • What settings do you have yours pickups on, how much tone, which pickups, front, back etc. I need to get this right, I can do pinch harmonics I just cant get the sound.

    Thanks.

  • beautiful my friend and very nice wristband lol

  • Nice one man, thats really good.

  • just givn u shit

  • how do you get that light tone when playing the 3rd fret on the 6th string?

  • i assume you mean the pinch harmonics? :) try youtube searching "pinch harmonic lesson" or something, i suck at explaining how to do it.

  • yup. those. i'm practicing now, but can't make to many of them. at least not on the 6th string. any suggestions/tips?

  • looks like sum1 cant play with 6 strings

  • more like i broke the highest string and couldn't be fucked to buy new ones. heh

  • i just realised

i looks like your highest string is broke

    lol

i have to much time on my hands

    to notice stuff

  • Nice dude. Good job

  • how do you nail that harmonic so easily? i swear i suck at harmonics, i must not be holding my pic right.. tell me your secret DAMMIT :P

  • no offense it was pretty sloppy and again no offence but strats arent metal guitars so if i were you i would buy a more metal guitar

  • and sorry djeffes but that commen wasnt meant for you i just wasnt paying attention and didnt scroll down to the bottom so sorry for that

  • if you check my more recent guitar vids, you'll see that the tone is pretty marvellous now. there's so much complaining about what is a metal guitar and what isn't, but i personally don't care, nor do i have the extra cash to get a guitar for each genre of music i play. since i don't even consider myself a guitarist, heh.

i did however buy a charvel model 3 off a friend a couple of months back, i just haven't gotten around to fixing it. when i do, i'll start using it in my covers. :)

  • i am not saying it is a terrible guitar but you cant get a real metal tone with a single coil pick up

  • all depends on taste.. i fixed my charvel though, check out my newest cover, gojira - rise. :)

  • there is no such as a "metal guitar". Only metal musicians.

  • ok...thats semi true, that there are no offical metal guitars, but some guitar manufacturers specifcally make guitars with the tonality etc suited for metal ex. dean they even say themselfs they are "THE METAL GUITAR" and jackson guitars are all built with high output humbucking pickups, most with floyd rose's in order to get a heavier sound. also look at the musicians who uses them. ex. dave mustaine(jackson, dean)dimebag darrell(dean)phil demmell(jackson)etc.now fender john mayor, elvis costelo etc

  • This man is Very Wise^

Oh and I disliked the song

    Listen To Dying Fetus

  • How long have u been playing guitar and what great cover by the way u rock!!

  • could you play without the music in the background?

  • well, yeah.. but i really don't see the point. i find cover vids a lot more entertaining when people play along with the music, and it's a lot more fun too.

  • eh i guess i just found it a little distracting...

  • They make so many M7 harmonies

  • this song IS easy

  • Maybe, but in metal I think is more important to write good riff that kit ass and have soul for it. There are bands that try to be over the top with the techniques they use and they don't put soul into their music. I like technical bands, stuff like Death, Nile, Atheist, Dellinger Escape Plan, Necrophagist, Cynic I think this bands put a lot of soul and passion into there music, but not all tech bands do that.

  • U MAKE IT SOUND SO EASY!

  • GOJIRA PWNS!!!

  • respect! nice work

  • hey man, i've been having loads of trouble with the pinch harmonics. any advice?

  • well, when i first discovered how to do pinch harmonics, i pretty much practiced them for two days straight. at the time i found the easiest frets to pick them on to be the 3rd and 4th fret on the low e-string. once you master the technique, it doesn't really matter where you pick them. :)

  • thank you kind sir

  • did you use tabs?

    if so which ones?

    btw great job

  • hey nice job! i finally put up a cover of it. Its probly my best so far even thought its horrible due mainly to the crappy mic. haha. check it out if you get a chance!

  • Evening old boy! At last the Horses of Hell neighing! Well at least it sounds like that to me! From watching you doing the thumb scraping lick, it seems obvious now. But still beyond me nevertheless. My attempt sounded more like a wet fart. theres a down before the upstroke. Well. heres to the new album! Cheers again old boy

  • there's always a place in metal for wet farts. always.

thanks a lot for watching squalitube, and if there's anything you're wondering feel more than free to ask!

  • at the "lightning struck me" part, this may be wrong, I think they pm the open d-string along with 3 on the a-string. That's how I play it, but again I may be wrong. Btw you always play awesome. how do you hit the harmonics so well. Is it your pickups, distortion or just lots of practice? sorry, I love this stuff.

  • thanks a lot for the reply!

you're probably right, and i wouldn't really know since i just kind of figured this song out before i recorded it, and didn't "check" if what i played was completely accurate. as for the harmonics, i'd say it's all about practice in my case.. a couple of years back i used to sit for an hour at a time and just practice picking harmonics. :)

  • i do things the same way unless i can get an official tab book. i hate internet tabs. sounds like all your practice has paid off though. i can hit pinch harmonics pretty well but they're not always clear and sometimes i just miss completely! what kind of distortion are you using btw?

  • the distortion you hear is all from a little vox amp, cranked up to full gain, treble and bass. :D :D

that's three out of four knobs cranked to 10, how awesome is that!

  • thats the way man. vox amps are amazing. how much do you use the mid knob?

  • there isn't one, the only knobs are gain (and a little gain on/off switch), bass, treble and volume. they made it easy for me :)

    who uses mid anyways? heh

  • i do...haha i change my sound a lot cuz i play a lot of different stuff

  • love the last riff <3

    gd job

  • thanks! :)

  • Hey Finowa, what are you doing at 4:40, 4:43; 4:46? It sounds like you are raking the strings, but is there something I am missing, that sounds awesome!

  • yes indeed, it's the trademark gojira pick raking! i don't do them all that well in this vid since i have one less string to rake due to the missing e-string and that has an unbelievably large effect on timing and such :)
