I know from my experience in many local-level (and one semi-national level) metal bands that, generally, when metal musicians are writing riffs, we weren't generally concerned with a riff being catch, so much as conveying the meaning or drive we wanted from that part of the song.

i hated Christianity in my teens & early 20s after being sent to a private Catholic school from Kindergarten - 8th grade. you were taught/brainwashed that you were not worthy of God's love & you had to obey 10 rules in order to gain his love. after quite some time (i'm 29 now) i returned to Christianity 2.5 years ago by attending a Free Methodist church. in these several short years i've learned more about God than i ever did in my early years when i feared him. i love metal & God! screw pop!
