  • Julius Caesar's tenth Legio Gemini X was Romans best legion.Make no mistake about that.

  • i have found a website webmovietube to watch movies for free..njoy

  • this movie was flipping EPICCCCCCCCCCCCC

  • How she could speak she has no tongue XD

  • Great trailer man!! going to watch this in webmovietube

  • Do you thing this fairy tale is History?

Legio VIIII Hispana never was beated from Pictis and never vanished.

This is only a fantasy movie.

  • @fellinian ,that's how it goes.Movies tell bullshit as if it's the truth.Yuk.

  • I like you or reasoning and it,s a cool idea but no.I think it s wrong. there has been much research and they now belief that Pictish language is recognised as Proto-Celtic they called or Pritenic. Thomas Francis O'Rahilly book He distinguished four separate waves of Celtic invaders the first being the Priteni. Goidelic languages developed later hence .Proto and Goidelic-Celtic linage.

Google this. The Pictish Language in F T Wainwright. read Orkneyjar.

  • I enjoyed the movie but would still like to see a film set in the Bronze to early Middle Ages that shows the other side - i.e. Scots, Irish, British (before Rome) - this was still from the eyes of an invader

  • I didn't know about this legend of the disappearance of the 9th Legion. Cool.

  • Awesome movie, getting it on DVD tomorrow!

  • i think she german not greek. anyway i liked Vahalla Rising better

  • good movie

  • No animals were harmed during this movie. Only the humans that watch get harmed. Anyway. You can get amused by the Movie in fine quality at: qui5ckfr5eemo5vie ( . ) ( Get rid of the 5 5 )

  • @MsJamesNolan you can't watch the movie without completing a survey how did u get around this

  • this movie was amazing for me, hollywood plots are always inaccurate when they based on real events, but the atmosphere (woods, ice, fog) was so adult and so "dark" also a lot of violence in there, nothing to compare about king arthur and Last Legion (wich where preatty stupid) u cant allowd kids to watching this, and everybody knows about the brutality of that era, so, yeah, a real surpirse 9/10

  • this film a load of rubbish. all of it. just a waste of lotto money. for a start they would of spoken Brythonic language. Goidelic languages come from ireland later.

  • @jimsim3 the Picts were speaking Irish/Scots Gaelic in the film. Was funny to hear Fassbender use his Irish upbringing in speaking the lingo - pretty well handled I thought

  • @lisduggan64

I know he did, Neil Marshall the director mentioned in the audio commentary that micheal was unable the speak the welsh the proper pistish languge, It, was one of the reason they went with the Irish. Maybe rhys Ifans might of been a better choice. But micheal played brilliant in the Inglourious Basterds. but then again he would. I think film producer are lazy and many a film has been let down because of the detail. You only need to look at any King Auther film to know this.

  • @jimsim3 King Arhur was a disaster. Pity. But attempts at historical epics set in Britain and or Ireland from this period back is pointless. No -one knows what we looked like, talked like or really lived like. Archaeologists base their info on stuff found or written from this time but our people(s) were an oral lot and built in timber and light stone so there is not much evidence of who they were culturally. They were Celtic in culture (maybe). Check out The Origins of the British by Oppenheimer

  • @jimsim3 I dont think the Picts spoke Welsh - I'd hazard a guess they spoke a version of it - some ancient dialect of a "Celtic" language. Some people say Irish/Scots and Welsh would have understood each other aroun this time. When you replace the letter p in Welsh with C in Gaelic many of the words are the same. Map is Mac in Gaelic - both mean son. So our languages have been around a long time. Really worth reading Oppenheimer;s book - fantastic breakdown of where we came from

  • @lisduggan64 , hi i tried to search that book on amazon , can you tell me the title again and the author. thank you

  • @Bloodthirstaid it's called "Origins of the British" and it's by Stephen Oppenhemier. Enjoy!

  • Etain? Nice Gaelic name :-)

  • This is definitely? one of the greatest movies of 2010! And I've never even seen or heard of it until now! lol Action, romance, great plot ...what more could you want! ;) Get it at this site: quickfr+eemo+vie+.com ( Remove the+ + + )

  • I watched it on the day of it's release and you can get it at:

    bit . ly / aXF4T8 no spaces

  • High quality and fast loading. I'm using it regularly!

free - movies - on - line . com without spaces

  • nice movie

  • @spfcever Thats pretty much the only historically accurate fact about the whole movie xD

  • Beat the Spanish? I didnt know Spanish had already existed in this time!

  • after building my hopes up, it only ran for 3 days at my cinema and then bombed before I even had a chance to see it - hmmm.... was it any better or worse than the Last Legion which I thought was utter garbage.

  • God she is so stunning, especially when she has the blue war paint in her.

  • fuck ye's, ROMAN BASTARDS!!!!

  • Well, at least I am infatuated with ancient Rome, and GRECO ROMAN CIVILIZATION!!!

With what are you infatuated with? England? Gordon Gay Brown or your famous History?

You may have sent Romans home but, at least they were fighting.

They were not hiding in the forests, bushes, or caves like PICTS CELTS SAXONS

and all other barbarians that have infested Europe today.

    Good Night Sir.

  • @TOKETOS, the Saxons hadn't arrived in Britain at this time in history. By hiding in caves, forests etc I think you're alluding to the fact the Picts preferred ambushes and to attack the Romans at their forts on the Wall. Ever heard ot the phrase when in Rome? Well, they weren't in Rome!

  • @TOKETOS So you would rather have unarmoured warriors attack well armoured & trained soldiers? Don't be stupid, if that was the case, no military would ever defeat another.

Also, Greece used to do the same, they had units called skirmishers who avoided combat to hurls stones or chunks of copper to kill their enemy.

So, please learn history and the art of war before slagging off brave warriors who beat of a bigger invading army that was far better equipped.

    Thanks.

  • Do not waste your time going to see this. It is awful, the photography is rubbish as is the dialogue!! You have been warned

  • YAS! Mon the PICTS!!!

  • Fuck the Picts!!!!!!! S.P.Q.R. Forever!!!

  • @TOKETOS

Lmao. A Greek who's infatuated with Ancient Rome.

MON THE PICTS! FUCK THE S.P.Q.R! WE SENT YOUS HOME!

    SCOTLAND FOREVER!

  • @TheScottishRocker Good old Britains fucking everyone up. lol

  • @TheScottishRocker And whats the scots done since then?

terrible food and bent over for the poms.

the scots took roman money for peace dont forget.

  • @FGalaxie

    LOL!

Are you for real? Troll much? What have we done since then though? Hm. Let's see. How about our Scottish King creating Britain (United Kingdom), wich would go on to establish the biggest empire this planet has ever seen. The British Empire. How's that Aussie?

Oh and another thing, Australia was colonized by us, MATE! You're welcome.

And you've got a cheek to say we bent over? Don't forget who's flag is sitting ontop of who's.

  • @TheScottishRocker me an Aussie? thats a laugh

Scots bent over then and are stilll bending over now.

Independant yet? no didnt think so

  • @FGalaxie oooh - I'm sensing a little Euro or is that American or maybe Aussie resentment there pal? So the Irish and Scots are now both moneygrabbing thieves? The Scots demanded tribute more like from Rome to make peace. Did you ever think the cowardly Romans who were useless individually and could only succeed en masse like ants paid the Picts to stay away from their damp villas? (Scots hadn't arrived from Ireland to stand with their Pict cousins until towards end of Roman Rule I believe)

  • @lisduggan64 wow nor your really scraping.

who has the civilisation and who didnt?

All this talk about valiant picts defencing till the last man is bs, they made peace and traded with the Romans when it suited them.

  • @FGalaxie civilisation is subjective. It depends on how you measure humanity - is it economics and statues that make invaders feel good about the conquering they persist in (be it at home or abroad) or how big your fucking house or car is or is it more about community and look after each other.

You still haven't said where you are from...somrthing to hide I wonder?

  • Scotland !!!

  • spic fail rome haha try again? LOL!!

  • pls when the movie is go oN

  • Search official Centurion trailer (2:10 long) From1.06- Scottish accent. Just feels like the director went this would be set in what is today Scotland so shove a Scottish girl in it. The pict spoke a brythonic p-celtic dialect todays decendant are welsh, cornish, breton and the Scot/Irish a Q-celtic theres a significant flaw in the film. By 117 - Scotland belonged to the pict alone and there would not have been any significant crossing of cultures by settlement at this point except by trader.

  • The truth is that descendents of those who destroyed the mighty Roman legion still live in Scotland today and their ancestors may well have spoken p-celtic or q-celtic but that is only the concern of a pedant who thinly viels a dislike for people who did what his own could not.

  • @wlwak Well your assumption of my apparent dislike of an entire Nation on the Basis that they were more successful than my own is a poor one as you’ve based your conclusion on my decision to discuss a historical inaccuracy in a film trailer. If I claimed Braveheart to be a Hollywood Historical fantasy does it mean I despise Scotland. Further more you do not even know where in Britain I hail from.

  • @DuffySAS the picts spoke modern Irish/Scots Gaelic in the film. One thing I really liked was the fact that the Pict leader was played by a Scandinavian - adds to to the authenticity as the Aboriginal people of the north of Britain mixed with SCandinavian and Irish stock to create Scots. The Saxon intrusion came later. So dialect not - Gaelic yes - as far as I could hear.

  • I think we all know they are going to screw this up big time.

  • If they'll f... this up like King Arthur and Last Legion were this will be second death of Gladius and sandal genre. And please don't romanticise Picts they were closer to Talibs than noble savages.

  • Heavily armed foreign invaders getting their asses kicked by local resistance - and then running away.

And we are supposed to relate to their story why exactly?

Isn't that kind of like watching "Inglorious Basterds" and relating to poor Nazis being scalped by murderous Jews?

  • yea good point, its why I'm not excited about this movie.. also from the trailer it looks like a poor man's Gladiator ;[

  • Yes but a Permanent garrison (the only place requiring one in the entire Empire), sitting in Auxiliary forts and only venturing out in large numbers is hardly a sign of the Britons being subjugated. And I really hope this film isnt going to become a Good Vs bad crap. How dare the Picts defend their lands from the nice Romans crap. And a Scottish accent? hardly realistic seeming as the Picts and Scotti were completely different. Like putting a US accent amongst pre colonial Native Americans.

  • The Picts and Scotti were completely different?

I dont think we know enough about the Picts to say that.

And as for a Scottish accent being (not that there is a single Scottish accent), which accent do you propose instead?

  • yes Dominic west was in 300

  • what a dum girl.. umm its about fighting umm its about being in horse ummm, god actress are idiots

  • Stupid romans. You can't beat a Celt in his own backyard.

  • @jordan8445

The fact that the Romans conquered and defeated the Celts in Cisalpine and Transalpine Gaul could easily disprove that. And also the fact that 3/4 of Britain was incorporated into the Empire...

  • Tell that to the Gauls.

  • Tell it to Hadrian and his wall builders

  • They are recording it here in Hungary :D I can't wait to see this :)

  • Who dominic west ?, yes he was

  • it's age of empires!

  • Legio Nonae Hispana victis!

  • dominic west would have made a good pictish war chief, i think they should have gone for someone like the white dark haired bloke in spooks for the roman role

  • Well said DOWNHILLHARRY, the Picts were warriors who no man wished to face. they'd rather a wall was in the way! no, make that two walls.

This will be a great film, it was filmed at Glen Feshie in Strathspey... an intimidating but stunning, unspoiled and historic wilderness in the heart of what is known to have been Pictish lands in the past.

    LvpvsRomanvs... reign it in, prick.

  • because the other tribes in ancient briton knew the picts were fucking scary but the picts werent like monsters. they had trading routes with other tribes and other countries but they were a people to be scared off.

  • The Picts inspired Robert Howard the creator of Conan the barbarian who loved the wild untamed nature of the Picts, due to his own scottish ancestry. He created the warrior king of the picts brian mak Morn as a tribute.

Even till the time of St. Columba the Picts did not take the christian god and even after Columba they clung to the old druidic ways. A very scary people, but also carved beautiful stones and were high cultures. Just look at the golden torcs found in Stirling 2300 years old.

  • shit film already lol. back in that time of history romans (all southern european people and others) where only five foot five or five foot 10. the pictish warrior was over six foot, had thousands of blue tattoos, waxed their red hair up high (like rhydian from x factor lmao) waxed their goatee's out like spikes and had large broad swords and always fought in the woods so the romans never got a chance to form military lines. thts why other tribes in briton refused to help rome

  • Other tribes did help Rome. How do you think Rome governed Britain? It was through client kings, leading tribes who were amenable to Roman rule. A famous example is Togidubnus, another is Prasutagus.

And if you can think of a practical way that the film-makers could portray their height, I would be glad to hear it.

  • LvpvsRomanvs. Ever been to wee pictland ? Ever compare the size of the roman empire to the size of little auld scotland? Ever wonder why the Romans HAD to build Hadrians and the Antonine walls? Ever wondered why we fought naked against a fully armoured centurion? ha ha ha because .you silly Wop......you FEAR us.......thats why we are still here .......Come visit sometime....Blood runs thick up here wee man.

  • @DOWNHILLHARRY They just bought the tight ass scots off with gold off.

Knowing what money grubbers scots are.

  • erm 're-creation' of Israel

  • damn shes hotttt

  • Olga is gorgeus, insteand, i was looking for a movie based on the history of rome, sins the gladiator one

  • Good grief, there is no point in applying contemporary polemic arguments to the ancient world.

  • Ah there is - its fun and gets people riled....

  • By the way having aid all that I'm looking forward to the film....be nice to see the Roman eagle fall to the Pictish standard for a change....

  • Are you American? British? Italian? Do a "damned" thing about it? Who said I wanted to do anything about about it. I bet you wish your army would put you in a front line somewhere. I wonder what you would do without the gang around you when faced with a man defending his family against the legacy you seem so proud of. No...wait - like all cowards you will hide behind a flag or banner and stand with your conscripted comrades & kill children for a good that will make your leaders rich & you dead!!

  • British and Italian. Your opinion seems like you want to do something about it.

Its a thing called loyalty mate, ever heard of it? i doubt it...

  • The loyalty you proclaim kills children. Like a cancer, disease kills those who carry in the end. And you are a disease, a virus - like the Romans before you. You and your loyalty will go their way too - towards extinction - when the very thing you push on others turns on you . Where are the Romans now? We (the indigenous) peoples of the world were here when Rome was a pup and will still be here when Rome (i.e Imperialism) is buggered up! Now go fuck yerself.

  • Temper, temper. You people were squatting in houses made of cow shite, with no written system, scrapping for control of farms.

Development comes with technology and central government, the best army the world has ever seen and a legacy that will live on forever in glory. ROMA VICTOR! Vale!

  • You sir are a fascist!

  • Forgot to add that what Hitler, Mussolini and their class of subhuman said to those they were about to exterminate because they didn't want part of the glory. Cop on ye stupid cunt - I'm just riling you...you nazis are so easy to rile...! Ww live in 2009 - the only romans (the lower case ro is intentional) I see now are selling Ice cream, making pizzas, in the mafia in movies and shaggin' teenagers (Berlusconi). Lighten up take off your helmet and get some air....! Nazi!

  • what, when my grandfather hid jews in his house? right...

Obviously you dont know the difference between a Fascist and a National Socialist. Im neigther. Im an Imperialist, but im not racist. I havnt been racist atall.

I think your the one that should calm down and get some air :) ciao

  • I stand corrected. Imperialist? And you're proud of yourself? Talk to the kids in the Middle East who are struggling modern day Soci-economic and Religious Imperialism - to the Aborigines who ancestors who were shot for sport and the Irish who were the first test colony of Of Cunt (sorry) Queen Elizabeth 1 of England.

  • what the fuck do you care about the middle east? it went to the dogs after the creation of israel anyway.

  • also, your being racist to the Italian people atm. My Gods, your quite the hypocrite are you not?

  • Racist? Moi - I am merely pointing out facts pal...sounds like you're a bit prickly this fine day

  • would i be pointing out a fact if i said you were a prize prick?

  • We're peas in a pod then buddy! ~takes one to know one...go away!

  • which pod? the Nazi one you accused me of? or has that theory magically dissappeared?

  • Have you - we - nothing better to do? Last message - I'm off - better things to do with my time than argue with a loyal imperialist who lives in the past and can't see the modern parallels of a world on the brink to the Empire he spends too much time dreaming about and defending against his betters

  • Bennissimo. I got bored around the time you started contradicting yourself. If you were my better, you wouldnt have bothered arguing in the first place =]

Face it: Arguin about wether Rome was great or not is a lost battle at the beggining. Rome has done too much for the civilized world to deny its supremacy. Hail the ancestors!

  • I just like a good argument! It's the Celt in me!

  • @lisduggan64

irish? FFS, Contribute to europe instead, thieving scum.

instead of just writing shite potery and making liquid marmite beer.

When the irish have done something besides molest kids, then talk.

  • @FGalaxie you raise three points in a a racist rant I have to come back at you on. 1. Look into your own DNA/heritage and I bet you'll find one of my lot fucked one of your lot and you are the result - that aside - never look at current circumstances and judge a people. Many more than Irish deviants (religious or other) abuse children - UK, Belgium & more are rampant p'hile haunts. Shite poetry? Our boys took a foreign language & showed the world how to use it. IF you are a brit u can talk beer?

  • @lisduggan64 Welcome to psycho babble 101.

im not english, ango or a pom.

    So there goes your theory,

And Irish are still in the Greece class, moden day leeches.

    Who contribute nothing.

  • @FGalaxie so where are you from friend? Tell us what you contribute?

  • @lisduggan64 A Euro country.

Thats not broke, that has industry, and a cuisine.

Not just rip off the EU.

    Like Ireland does.

  • @FGalaxie A Euro country with cuisine - again cuisine is subjective. Still can't tell us where you're from eh? Do I sense a little Franco-German thing going on here...where 2 carrots, a pea, a slice of lettuce drenched in olive oil, and chips (sorry pommes frites) is called cuisine...or maybe you eat horse arse. Whatever it is pal you are an example of why conflict still haunts out world. The we are better than you argument is lame. Tell us where you are - what are you ashamed of? A dark past?

  • @lisduggan64 hello... pot meet kettle.

conflict. Thats all you have done, or attenpted to do.

But i guess when you are Irish what else can you do, nothing else of achievement.

I dont have to tell you anythying.

I might hate the Poms and other empires, but can at least respect their achievements, whilst your still whining.

  • @FGalaxie aha now we have it - you do have something to hide. Any conflict that came to The Island was brought by invaders. Whereas if I look at most countries on the continent (not all I hasten to add but most) went after their neighbours or poor fuckers too far away to care about but were handy to conquer. Where have I whined? I state facts friend and stand under and over my place in this world - you still cannot say where you are from. Very interesting I would say. Respect empire? Cop on

  • @lisduggan64 And im stating facts too.

I dont have to state where im from or what my heritage is, simply that it has achieved a lot more than Ireland has.

You are acting like Greeks and Croats do these says.

countries worth nothing who rubbish their betters. Sad really.

  • @FGalaxie now we are getting close to the bone. I have to commend you on your English. Pretty good for a Continental - or dare I suggest your parents are the Continentals and you were raised in the UK then returned home to ze Vazzerland or maybe Italia (which wasn't even a country until 150 years - neither was Germany come to think of it). I'll stop guessing you're from Fascist stock and note you dislike Empire but your racist rants about other nationalities has me and maybe many others thinking

  • @lisduggan64 Oh yeah im a rabid right winger.

better a nigger than 10 irishmen lol.

Thats not me, thats what they used to say in America.

  • @FGalaxie Now the contribution and thieving question. Again if you are British your nation stole more than half the world through Piracy, invasion, decimation of ancient peoples & their culture & subterfuge - not to mention divide & conquer. Along with all the other s called "Great" powers you raped the world and are now reaping the rewards of centuries of sin and degradation you meted out. As for contributing - the list is endless...if you mean financially then your vision is narrow. However

  • @lisduggan64 If you are not a right winger you are doing a very good racist impression of one. So I guess you learned your English in the USA - I wonder did you pick up some of your other ideas over there too? Still not saying where you're from or what is so great about where you're from I see. Ah well...without that info we can only assume you are not on the face of it a fascist but you are definitely a supermacist of some sort. Which is sad...

  • @FGalaxie every country and individual has contributed something both useful and useless to the world - here are some of ours - I vouch for none and enjoy some - Patoto Chips (Crisps), the Submarine, Soda Water, the Tank, U2, James Joyce, WIlliam Butler Yeats, Newgrange, colour photography, Chemistry, Splitting the atom (50% of the team were Irish), Literature (since 400AD we have been leaders in literature and the spread and saving of knowledge worldwide), Guinness, Music sessions, the pub!!!

  • @lisduggan64 Well noone would want to eat brit food would they?

    or have it delivered?

The poms have a lot of blood on their hands.

  • One day they should do a film like this from the Picts point of View.

  • Never a truer word said. And one from the Gaelic point of view, the Australian Aboriginal POV, the Native American POV, the African POV, and the pov of all other peoples who suffered at the hands of progress and EMpire.

  • The series 'Into the West ' did an episode from the native American point of view. Was really interesting.

  • Check out the series 500 Nations. Pretty interesting. It's a documentary series hosted by Kevin Costner (I know...dodgy but...) well worth a look.

Must check out the Into the West show thanks.

  • Rome never once practiced genocide. Ever.

  • Romans. Genocidal Imperialistic forebears to modern Empires that have caused chaos in the world of free living and thinking indigenous peoples since the late Middle Ages.

  • lisduggan64. A stupid, ignorant fool that should keep his mouth shut because his overt stolidity shines through his every word...

  • See? this is why Imperialists can't get it. They fear the truth. That those who suffered under the eagle banner s of the past can see through the smoke screen of "civilisation". As for my stolidity - do you even know what the word means? Do you take it from the Latin "stolidus" (foolish). As Monty Python asked, what did the Romans ever do for us? Not much in my opinion.

  • Maybe it is you that fears truth. That the strong over-came those who were too weak to rule europe. The tribes quarrelled amongst each other for control. It is better for the weak to be defeated and then submit to the eagle, than to quarrell pointlessly for centuries.

The Romans gave order and stability to europe during the Pax Romana.

  • The word tribe is another indication of the imperialistic notion you obviously adhere to friend. The tribes as you call them were individual peoples whop admittedly quarrelled and in time would have moved towards some form of centralised governance - the Romans were the masters of quarrelling by the way - civil wars, etc. It is not a matter of strength over weakness is it live and let live. Something those that support Empires and "strength" choose to ignore or can't see.

  • there is no such thing as live and let live. There is the human condition, the will to survive, the stive to be dominant.

The Romans took the dominant role and through it imposed their will, some great and some brutal, however that is war.

Throughout history Europe has been a battlefield for tribes. The hellenic states of Greece, the factions in Persia, The factions of Alexander. The German tribes, the Gauls, the etruscans and Latins. The Romans just came out on top and attained power.

  • Again the human nature argument. I can hear the fathers in uniform saying, that's just how it is son. Men kill kill and women cook.

    S.A.D. Very sad.

The Roman just came out on top...for a while and those they subjugated looked over the walls and turned on the master. Human nature. The fat arsed Romans with the immigrant foreign slavlish armies fighting like robots under their eagle got lazy (what does that sound like?) overstretched themselves. And paid the price. Live & let die I guess.

  • Rome dominated, Rome ruled and Rome has a legacy that wil last thousands of years to come...and there is not a damn thing you can do about it.

  • Clearly, they didn't do much for you...

  • Who's the dude at 0:57?

  • This should be good.

  • The mystery of what happened to the 9th legion was recently solved... An inscription turned up in Turkey recently which suggests they did not vanish, but were redeployed to the Eastern Empire. Still, its a good story and I'm happy to enjoy it on that level-- like I felt with Gladiator.

  • Sorry, Roman records state clearly that the 9th Legion ceased to exist after it was sent into what is modern day Scotland! The 9th never left Britannia after it landed!

  • Really? What records are you referring to?

  • The records available at the time. The 9th (Hispania) Legion were one of the four legions that invaded Britain, and were subsequently stationed here permanently. All references to the 9th available in the UK detail that the legion never left these shores! There are references to the founder of the legion being from Turkey, but the legion itself was never there after the Britannia campaign! I searched through Google just to make sure!

  • It is true that the legion suffered a huge loss in 117. However, it is certain that a substantial part of the legion was still active in 121: they are listed as part of the Rhine garrison. L. Aemilius Currus, an officer of the 9th, later became governor of Roman Arabia. The 9th is also recorded as having been in Judea during the Bar Kochbar revolt, though it is equally possible that the legion was reformed, having been decimated in Caledonia. Either way, it didn't dissapear entirely.

  • In the instance of a legion either losing it's eagle or being destroyed, or both, the legion is removed from the records! This is what happened after the 9th legion were lost in Britannia! In AD43, they were part of the invasion force led by General Paulius. The Legate of the 2nd Legion was the future emperor Vespasian! They may well have been in the Middle East, but not after AD43! Local legend says that the entire legion to the last man was never seen ever again!

  • AD 43? In AD 60/61 Q. Petelius Cerialus commanded the 9th against Boudica's people, the Iceni, as recorded by the Roman historian Tacitus. There is no actual record of the legion being destroyed in 117, its just that there is no trace of them in Britain after the Northern expedition. Which makes sense, seeing as how they weren't there. Nevertheless, I suspect that a lot of people-- like the film makers-- tend to reject scholarly findings in favour of folklore.

  • Movie looks good but I'm more pumped for The Eagle of the Ninth one coming out. Based on the same legion, same story but The Eagle of the Ninth was a kick-ass book. If you haven't read it you should, it's excellent. I hope the movie does it justice.

  • They're making a film out of Eagle of the Ninth? By R. Sutcliff? That book was kickass! Who's making a film and when does that come out? Also, where? (I'm in the US.)

  • I don't remember the exact details, but it's on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), so you could find more information there. I think it's supposed to come out some time in 2010. I read that it has already got distribution deals in pretty much every major market because it's supposed to be a major blockbuster.

  • That one dude looks just like McNulty from The Wire.

  • it is
