@ronnylongjohns "The Do Wop"—also on the album—is likewise a continuous series of rhymes with no chorus or interruption whatsoever. This rap has 38 rhymes; the "Do Wop" has a walloping 47!
Phenomenal! LL's MC'ing is just superhuman. This track is a response to the feud with MC Shan and his diss against LL on Beat Biter. Everything from 3:00 onwards is aimed straight at Shan.

Aiight, my man; you got me on this one. I found an MC Shan interview, online, by some dude named Jayquan (.com) in 2002, in which he asks Shan about "The Breakthrough". Shan does acknowledge it as a subliminal dis, but says he called out cats by name, so that "spectators" didn't have to wonder who he was referencing. But that's all he said; he didn't expand on it. Shan actually gave himself way too much credit for the hip-hop movement in the interview. Anyway, much respect due, Jasofly32!
LL and Run DmC were so huge and were considered mainstream.. Alot of artist did not respect LL's talents accused him of stealing styles (Run, Tla Rock) and beats...LL just did it better than anybody as a solo artist from 1984-1986...
Which is interesting, because as much as we loved Run and them, L..L.s flow and vocab was more advanced than those cats...or at least seemed to be, during that time.
