  • Baby turtles are so cute. I am thinking of getting my 7 1/2 inch turtle a playmate soon and by the why steeletate I just learned that mater is a female missippi map.

  • nice turtles

  • @spontanous91151 ~ Thank You! ;~)

  • @SteeleTate are they babies

  • how big will they all get ?

  • @coronapeacock -- With the turtles I have, females can be expected to range from 5-13 inches in length when they reach maturity. Like many aquatic turtles, the females are typically bigger than the males with the males reaching 5 to 10 inches typically.

All 3 are good choices for a beginner and each has a very unique and beautiful appearience.

Thanks for watching and posting your questions and comments!

  • I hope so. It is very bad, the discoloration will still be there even if I treat it. But I just want it to be healthy, even if the carapace is a little off in color. About basking and such, he is doing it regularly and is a GREAT turtle.

  • @DewleafWolf -- Just do the right things, and I know you will. Over time he will be just fine and so happy to be in your care. Keep me posted on the progress and send me any questions or comments if you think I can help.

    ;-)

  • @SteeleTate :: He's getting better already... I was really shocked to find that he's getting some color back. :) It's been about 2 days with a turtle-shaped water conditioner for their shells and already I can tell some green is coming up around the damage. It will still take a long time to fully heal - hopefully - but for now I'm glad to report he's slowly progressing. :D

  • (continued) What do you recommend to treat it? VitaShell? He is so beautiful with big blue eyes and a butterfly pattern on his plastron. Thinking of upgrading to a 20 or 30 gallon and giving the 10 gallon tank to my frogs... So yeah, thanks for your help!

  • @DewleafWolf -- VitaShell can be helpful and used once a week, but put on just a slight amount when applying it. You will of course need to make sure he has fresh clean water to live in and a nice place to bask daily. A diet rich in calcium is also very important, and the foods you are using I believe are all correct. If he has any fungus you will need to do a Sulfa Dip process a few times, but you don't mention a fungus which is good. It will take time, but caring for him properly will work.

  • Hey SteeleTate! I'm on my iPhone so I'm commenting here to update you, hehe. My filter randomly stopped working after a power surge so I had to exchange it for a new one. My turtles have eaten 3 goldfish so I am replacing them by buying some feeder guppies tomorrow... Also, today I got a third RES! My cousin gave me his. They did not know how to handle it properly and did not give the poor thing barely any water despite how much I pleaded them, so it's carapace is brown and incredibly unhealthy

  • Yes, I do! :) And about the ammonia levels I'm kind of relieved. I have five goldfish, and a nice filter and water conditioner kind of like you just described... So I don't think I have to worry. Thanks!

  • Hey SteeleTate! Check out my new videos and see what changes I have made in my tank! By the way, what do you use to keep the ammonia level down in your tank with those goldfish? I saw online that some stores sell kits to keep that down in a turtle tank, but I can't find anything.

  • @DewleafWolf -- Ammonia levels have not been an issue for me. This is due to the fact that I use a great filter system, complete a partial water change often and use a good water conditioner. Since I only have 5 goldfish I'm trusting this is enough, but If the ammonia levels are ever a concern, I would take greater steps and remove the fish if needed. For now my water is clean, clear and perfect.

Your tank changes look great! Don't you just love having turtles and creating their enviorment?

  • I thought you are supposed to feed turtles meat... Or do you not have to?

  • @Ktfunsizednarly -- You can feed your turtles meat which will add further variety to their diet, but it is not a must. I use 2 different types of floating pellet foods, romaine lettuce and some meat, changing what I feed them day to day. They also eat some of the goldfish food when they get the opportunity, which seems to be very beneficial for their coloring.

  • How many times a day do you feed your turtles what do you feed them and how much... please give me all the details about feeding.... THANKS!!!!! :()

  • @Ktfunsizednarly - Take your turtles and some water from your tank and place them into a small bowl. Put in 2 or 3 pellets and leave the room for 15 min. If they are baby turtles, you need to be using baby turtle food of course. I use a variety of floating pellet foods and romaine lettuce, changing what I feed them day to day. They also eat some of the goldfish food, which seems to be very beneficial for their coloring. Watch my video "How to Properly Feed Your Turtles" for more information.

  • Hey I have I a question... I think I want a Red Eared Slider because I can't find a Hierohlyphic River cooter at Petsmart.. Is a Red Eared Slider a good turt??

  • @Ktfunsizednarly - Yes, RES are great turtles also great beginner turtles.

  • Is it this a new video???

  • @Ktfunsizednarly - yes, it is my newest video.

  • is that the turtle bank?

  • @madturtlefan -- No, that's not a turtle bank, it's a Zilla basking dock.

  • there looking great as always

  • @idkwht2name -- Thanks for watching my videos and posting your comment! Jasper, Jack and Clyde really do all seem very happy and health together. I'll be posting some additional videos next week so stayed tuned!
