@Sharn0Poison unless this guy's some nutcase who can get a decent EHP without them, the rigs are medium core defence field extenders.

as for the fitting issues, a mwd should be fine with "decent" fitting skills (advanced weapons upgrades 3, shield upgrades 4, the like). it is a tight fit though, granted.

Fantastic video. I fly Caldari missile boats with the same philosophy (close range, HAM/ Torp, buffer tanks) and it is easily one of the most fun ways to fight. Some of my most exciting nights were in a gang with my Torp Raven setting primary on battleships.

One of the things that makes EVE hard to pitch to prospective players is that space combat is inherently hard to make visually engaging; even videos of intense battles are hard to follow because every thing is zoomed way out and obscured by the UI.

Not sure how you did it, but this video makes the fights look much more exciting! Bravo for a fantastic presentation!

That is a great UI setup. I may be copying that. Played as a strictly Amarr pilot until a month ago, when I spent the learning skill refund on T2 Rockets and some MLO support skills, to better round out my combat options and try out the Vengeance. I've just finished HAM V, fly a Sacrilege, and am training up to a Drake now. The versatility of missiles is amazing.

So as a newish missile-pilot (just built my first HAM-Drake, Minni ACs all the way till a few weeks ago), is it better to volley or keep your launchers ungrouped?

Or maybe split the difference, IE, 2 groups of 2 launchers, and 1 group of 3?

I group them now. This footage was from a long time ago when I was just starting out. "Grouped weapons" was a feature that hadn't even come out yet!

I do, however, keep them split in the middle on the fitting screen and offline a salvager or the like purely for use as a heat sink.

@razor650 Thanks! I usually use caldari navy kinetic but keep EM and EXP around for those tough shield tanks or gallente ships with the crazy KIN resistance.

and if u go my ham tank setup its lil less dmg but u have full drake tank, and if u got tackle in your team u can easy tank 3 harbringers like that and have enough dmg to pop em too. and btw epic song choice!

I'm happy you enjoyed my humble first attempt. There are plenty of people with far greater skill (and time) at their disposal for both video editing and EVE. I only started in 2007, after all, and I'm a weekend warrior at best.

You know, the funny thing is that I NOW have thermodynamics at V but during all of this footage I was considerably younger as a character and didn't have it at ALL! This of course only furthers the proof that you don't need an uber character to be quite effective.

All of this footage was in the well known Carrou/Ignoitton 0.4 island. I began my piracy career there, learned from some of the best, and haven't really left. Although with targets dwindling I'll probably be riding my jumpclone out of that area more often than not. If I'm around, however, I'm happy to take someone on. I fly solo, however, so if you want to beat me with your 8 friends and 3 accounts it isn't too hard and it doesn't mean you're good :) (not that that's what YOU do....haha)

Oh yea. You get another 100dps or so. Only can sustain it for about a minute though- often all you need.

I never did it back then because I didn't have the skills (I was pretty young in most of these kills some of the maneuvers I pulled like bumping into those roids seem pretty silly now) but now I routinely overload.

usually the setup ran me about 100mill, and insurance would reimburse like 38mill of that so not a super expensive setup for what its capable of.

of course, with apocrypha 1.5 and the rigs 2.0 change it is going to get considerably cheaper...
