  • I own a '85 V65 Magna and I love the acceleration, and though I'm quite certain I can spank most any Harley I come across, there are still many things I love about a Harley. They are apples and oranges really, and I for one like both apples and oranges!

  • You mean "rice eater" don't you? Even when you win you lose... you still got a Honda.

  • @JayDAnderson

I think "rice eater" is still better then "crap eater" hahaha........but still, I love all bikes, because they are beautiful !!!

  • The V65 had a top speed of 165,the harly sportster is depending on what year it is 95-105mph,I rode a 1986 V65 and it could cruise at 120mph no problem, the harley isn't even close. The V65 was rated at 115HP and the harley at 49-59HP.

The Honda will walk all over the Harley.

  • I wouldnt buy a harley to race people. I have a GSXR 750 and it is scarey fast. But it will get you killed fast too.

  • @journeyquest1 i may get a 1984 magna mint 22000 miles . anyway i say ride what you like but a v65 magna will beat a 883 all day long

  • I don't really respond to these videos, but that said, like I read if you havn't driven a V65 than don't comment. I bought one brand new in 83 and now many years later I got another and they are still an extreamly FAST bike. I pull away from bikes of all kinds like a joke.

  • This is funny... its like " my Buell will keep up with your Hyabusa " um... no sorry your wrong. I know a guy with thousands of bucks in a 883 sporty with buell jugs heads 1200 cc hot rod carburetor from arlen ness screaming retarded loud pipes and my 84 V65 Sabre makes it look like a toy. Harleys are status symbols nothing more, nothing less.

  • these v65's are more under-estimated in power/performance than what is said, these are BAD ASS bikes,if you had not rode one,you would not understand.

  • Fucking Magna is the SHIT!!!....I had one of these bikes and loved to eat Harley's...Twisting the throttle on that bike was unlike anything else... I made it from San Jose to Bakersfield in a little under 3.5 hours on my Magna...It was just a pleasant cruise for that bike...at over 130 mph..that big V4 barely breathing hard.

  • i just got off my v65 sabre i love hitting the throttle like a alchoholic

  • Why was the Harley guy on his girlfriend's bike?

  • Harley owners need therapy.

  • Suprisingly, a Bike I still beat BUT really startled me was a Yamaha Maxim X, Seemed to have a pretty low and healthy power band. Kept up with me off the line BUT the power drops off pretty severe once you get outside of it. The V65 is all pull right up to about 140-145, It has a bit more after that, but that solid feeling pull drops off.

  • I can speak from experience, I had an 85 V65 and the top I could get out of it, windshield off, back rest off and laying down on the tank was about 165-168 Mph. I raced Honda 1100 Interceptors and 1000 Hurricanes and I beat all of them in the quarter mile by a pretty healthy margin. The issue was I absolutely crushed them from starting line BUT at top speed, the Hurricanes started to catch up pretty quickly while My V65 was barely maintaining. The Interceptors never had a chance.

  • @BikerBry I have had the same experience with my 84 v65 sabre. Absolutely kills rockets off the line. I can crank the Sabre wot and dump the clutch... she comes up about 6 inches and motates >:) 160 is pretty routine on the Sabre with the full Hondaline fairing its very stable all the way up. I saw 165 once lol

  • @series1riv I now have a 103" Stage II Harley Heritage and My V65 would still kick it's ass. A sporty doesn't stand a chance against one of these 80's super bikes. The new super bikes are insane! My buddies GXR is a fn' Monster!

  • @series1riv yah i have a sabre now no fairing but i took it on the free way with a gsxr and saw 150 and probably could of done more

  • "a1986v65" is correct, the horsepower to gears ratio on a stock V65 will allow it to do 173. depending on how big the rider is affects it obviously, but 142 is definately achievable. and don't think sport bikes are unbeatable, i beat a 2011 FZ8 for the full quarter

  • nice ownage

  • The only thing that Sportster is capable of beating is the Fool riding it. That Sportster convinced that poor soul he had a Chance-In-Hell if going up against a V65. Nothing like a Dillusional Ego and a audience to amaze...

That kid in the vehicle had unfortunately been brain-washed, ...and has now been re-programmed to see the light of TRUTH!

  • No Harley ever made could beat suzuki or hondas sport crusiers !!!

  • Famous Honda rider statements, " it looks like a Harley", "it sounds just like a Harley ". The question is if it weren't for Harley who would they try to duplicate ?

  • @Harleycrazyed the real question is "what did they duplicate in the first place"? The V twin wasn't invented by harley, nor was the cruiser like look.

  • @Harleycrazyed - A V65 is a 90 deg V4 with independent connecting rods and journals. It sounds NOTHING like a 45 Deg V-Twin with a knife and fork shared journal bike. I have owned both, they are apples and oranges. That said, at 43 years old, my Harley is a piece of artwork, my Honda was to go fast.

  • i dont want to offend anyone that says any different but when the 82 magna came out...it had a tested top speed of 175 ...my dad had one..i kno

  • if it's well designed and you take care of it, it will last a long time. The technology of bikes today I would say they are pretty neck and neck. It's all good. My choice of motorcycles will always be Honda. I will say this though...the Hyabusa is impressive with it's speed and horse power BUT you can't "ride" it. It was designed to go in a straight line very fast. Have you ever ridden the mountain roads in N.C. or the Dragon? FUN FUN FUN!!! Good day to ya.

  • @saber356367 I totally agree with u. Honda may not of had the latest & greatest tech like the other companies, but because of that their bikes were much more reliable & simple to work on. I own a couple old single cam 750s & they are both easy to work on and really reliable too. I personally prefer Yamaha, but wouldnt think twice about buying another Honda. As for the Busa, its not the type of bike I would like to own. That bike is for people who care more about bragging rights than ridding.

  • @LordSamuelJ

Oooops sorry I should've worded that differently...I know didn't say they were fastest. I will agree with the 70's technology but the 80's V4's were ahead of their time..including the v-twins and Yamaha's V Max. Honda's technology was very good. Just look around and search the Craigs List ads for 80's Honda's There are many of them still on the road today. I know V4 owner's that have over 100K miles on their Hondas. As with any machine something will always need repaired but......

  • @LardSamuelJ Not bashing you just saying....ALL the 1st gen V65 Magnas are 1100cc's. 1983-1986 The V65 Magna engine is not crammed into a 700/750 frame. The 700/750 Magna frames are considerably smaller than the big Magna frames. Nothing about the 1100cc engines and 700/750 engines are interchangeable. The V65 Magnas weigh roughly 590 lbs wet. That's considered heavy. They are not the fastest bikes on the street but they can out run some of those lighter 600cc sport bikes.

  • @saber356367 I never claimed they werethe fastest bikes on the street, but its impressive seeing technology from the 80s beat up on a newer lighter and supposedly faster crotch rockets. Especially Honda technology, they always seemed to be the slow, low tech bikes of the 70s and 80s.

  • @LordSamuelJ Honda technology has always been based around it's rider for comfort and bulletproof reliability. Alot of their newer bikes are probably the most advanced yet easy to use.

  • Respond to this video... yeah sometimes the latest and greatest tech is not so great after all. Honda proved that simplicity is the rule of thumb for reliability, well that is until the bugs are worked out of otherwise beneficial tech. Now Honda is up to date but they waited until the tech became much more reliable. My first bike was a Honda so I always have a soft spot for them.

  • my first bike is a r1...still got it looks new

  • The v65 is a 1100 not a 1200.(Just saying, my 85 is.)

  • The V-65 Magna had an 1098 cc engine rated at 116 HP at the flywheel. My 1986 model on a frame dyno produced 106 hp at the rear wheel at 8800 RPM. The mathematical design top speed was 173 mph and I ran through a speed trap at a dragstrip at 142 mph in fifth gear. It has a 6 speed transmission.

  • @a1986v65 Very nice reply man... I was just ranting above telling that schmuck that thinks a Magna cant do 140 that my 84 106hp vf1100s sabre has seen 160 mph... barely out of fifth gear. Magnas are lighter and early ones are more powerful. This is a foolish arguement. Bradbyars has obviously never ridden a v65

  • @jmend56. Can't argue that hardly ablesons hold there resale value better than most all bikes. I have seen that decline in recent years though. It should. They don't offer any advantage over japanese cruisers. A Jap cruiser has better brakes, INFINITELY better engine designs (ie newer than 50 year old tech found on hardlys) IMO they look way better, AND they cost about 1/3rd as much. It is a shame that people keep supporting Harley. They build crap bikes and market them well. Thats all.

  • HAHA at the guy running 160 on his Magna. Not trying to start a fight but what mods did you have on that bike exactly? If you don't say a freaking GIGANTIC turbo or supercharger then your lying. Honda magnas are quick for a cruiser but ANY modern 600cc sportbike will out run them so bad it wouldn't even be funny.

  • @bradbyars who says he is running 160?? he has had it to 140 topped out plus wen it came out even if it was 200 years ago it was the fasted bike at the time.. and yea a 600 could with good rider but normally the idiots who buy a 600 got it to pick up chicks and cant ride plus who will get the launch?? the cruiser and 600 guy will b afraid to pull its little tire up

  • John38special said it on this page a few posts down. I owned a magna. Loved it. It was a quick bike. Even 140 is a stretch, MAYBE not impossible but it would take a long straight to get a stock magna up to that speed. Can't argue about dopes buying sportbikes but idiots are everywhere. These new 600's are crazy fast and should not be considered learner bikes. Way to much power and acceleration in the hands of unskilled riders. To me its idiotic to buy a harley davidson. They are junk.

  • @bradbyars guess there is something we can agree on haha.. and yes ur right 600 are getting pretty quick for stock.. guess thats why we leave those to the kids and we step up to our 1000s.. but as long as ur knees are in the breeze thats what we are about

  • @lowejo89 Good for you guys. I havent ridden a 600 in years. My last three bikes were hayabusas and far from stock. Sold my last busa 4 years ago and have only ridden a buddies cruiser a handful of times since.

  • @bradbyars You owned one and you don't think it could hit 140? I've put good seat time on one and it will get up to 140 in less than a half mile, maybe something was wrong with yours? Out of the box they would run a little over 170 and trap ~120 in the 1/4, which puts them right around modern 600s. I'm not talking a beat to shit V65 like most are, but one that's running the same as it did new.

  • @bradbyars I have personally seen 160 mph on my 1984 v65 sabre on several occasions. Just saying. It is 100 % factory stock 10,000 miles. Magnas are lighter. I wouldnt recommend anything over 120 on a Magna with stock rubber mounted turn signal stalks though... they get floppin bout 130 er so

  • @bradbyars sorry dude you are sadly mistaken, my brother raced a cocky asshat on his gxsr 600 and beat him 3 outta 3 , was funny to watch his ego get turned upside down by an old guy on an old bike..

  • @chowhound3 Well good for your brother. I dont doubt it if he can ride well, his harley is heavily modded, AND he was racing a punk kid that cant ride. Stock 600 with a good rider will crush most any harley. That being said I LOVE seeing loudmouths get shut up. Good job for your bro.

  • @bradbyars Naa, my bro was on a stock 1983 v65 magna, He and I are of the same opinion about Hardly Davidsons and yes if the azzhat would of spent a bit more time learnin how to ride the 600 and less puffin his chest out it would of been a better race for sure....

  • @bradbyars dude please shutup and stop comparing old bikes to modern junk. A 600 faster than a Magna?? Are you retarded? A v65 will eat most rockets. The other day I saw an old 84' Yamaha Vmax eat a new Gixxer for breakfast. New bikes are fast but not that fast.

  • @LordSamuelJ Dude you cant seriously believe the shite your spouting right? I can appreciate stirring the pot but come on. Not to take anything away from your beloved magna but it is no match for newer lighter bikes with the same or more horsepower and way less weight.

  • @bradbyars Im saying this because my old pile of junk 1975 Kawasaki H1 500 keeps up with my bros brand new Honda CBR 600 fairly well. I have my doubts that it will keep up to a v65. My friend's 1984 Yamaha Vmax beats all of our bikes proving that newer is not always better. I think the new bikes are over hyped much like every bike when its new. Plus a v65 Magna is 1200cc stuffed into the 750cc magna frame. Its not a heavy bike.

  • @LordSamuelJ They did nerf the shit out some of the newer 600's though (mostly because only 5% of them hit the track). I think they did this in part because they didn't want anyone new to the bike to kill their selves while racing someone else and because of stricter noise and emissions laws (you should see how tough it is in cali). But a 1000 would easily smoke anything but IF you buy a 1000rr you are just ASKING to die! That's to much bike for most to be able to handle.

  • @EpiDemic117 lol there are allot of monster 1000cc and bigger bikes these days. I think they are almost getting to fast for the rider. Kinda seems like the 1970s repeating itself. The 1980s had tame bikes, but with a few monsters like the gpz turbo and the vmax. I have a 1982 XV750 Virago that can barely pull ahead of my 1972 Yamaha R5 350 and thats after I modified it. Allot of the 1980s bikes had electrical issues and carb issues especially Suzuki.

  • @LordSamuelJ good shit. MY XJ750 needs the carb synced. Fuel injection is without a doubt the best.

  • @EpiDemic117 yeah those 1980s vacuum carbys are terrible.

  • @LordSamuelJ Ya cant throw the rz in with the rest, it was a beast , even with its small cc , twin cylinder 2 stroke, nnnasty, thats why the yamaha banshee was the nastiest four wheeler for its day, it got a version of the rz engine but it still got rolled by the v65 magna as with all machines of its day til the v max came out and lets not forget the suzuki madura

  • @chowhound3 Yes the RZ 350 was an animal and so was the banshee. I currently own an R5 350 (non power reed version of the RD). But, the RZ 350 was not as fast as the Kawasaki H1, H2 or the Yamaha TZ750 (this bike will destroy a v6 magna without any issues and prolly a Vmax). Even slightly modded H1/H2s will roll a V65. The two stroke bikes were insane back then and even still today. As for the Madura, It was slower than the Magna by a small margin but still insanely quick.

  • @LordSamuelJ Someone told me that most of the Kawasakis built after the 70's were junk, anything before that was good. But i think alot of bikes in the 80's had some type of electrical or mechanical problem. i have an 83 XJ750, And that bike did have some electrical problems but for some reason it all of a sudden went away after i rode the bike for a while.

  • @EpiDemic117 1970s Kawasakis were insanely fast for their time but would blow up faster than the other Jap brands. They kinda got a bad rep for being unreliable, but u must consider the fact that they were the first true sports bikes and were beaten on unmercifully before all the design flaws were worked out. My bike is a two stroke tripple which is why its fast, but handles like dirt. Its as fast as my bros bike in a straight line but when that first corner comes, Im the one whos slow.

  • @bradbyars also, if you actually knew what you were talking about and were able to properly compare some of these bikes, so many people wouldnt be in total disagreement with you. cheers :)

  • @LordSamuelJ everyone is entitled to their own opinion. To say that i dont know what im talking about is an assumption. Ive owned several bikes in my life. Granted ill admit i dont know much about the v65 1200cc magna as i owned a 95 750 magna. I liked it a lot. It was/is a great bike. All im saying is a properly tuned 600cc bike is not "modern junk" and with equal riders its tough to beat on a stock cruiser. I personally ride hayabusas because im a big guy. Be safe and ride what ya like. :)

  • @LordSamuelJ i own a 1984 v65 sabre its fast i road a 2009 r6 its scary fast (sabre1100=600lbs+106hp) (r6=400lbs+120hp+newer tech) eh think about it

  • @bradbyars I know its a late responce but in any case you are way off with your statement about 600cc outrunning the magna, I on many occasions smoked various 600's, especially the gsxr 600, my brother had a dude at his work that thought as you do,they went to the local 1/4 miles strip and my bro wasted the guy by 30 feet or so, both bikes were stock, before posting read a bit, 1983 v65 magna ran 1/4 mile in 10.84 @ 124 mph stock, without mods any 600 will get owned..

  • @bradbyars nah i disagree w/u partner sorry, those motors are one of the best motorcycle motors ever built-one of the fastest bikes in the world is powered by a V-4

  • @bradbyars i have a v65 magna and ive had it burryed at 160 and all it has is fuel jets in the carbs so its very possible

  • @bradbyars Agreed. But the Magna"s are pure vintage excellence... if your lucky enough to own a sweet one! You can keep the new CHACHI stuff.

  • I've never seen a Harley beat a Honda.

Harley's just aren't made for speed . . . They're made for idiots that are easily conned into spending $18,000+ for two wheels.

  • @BloodTar : Punk Ass kid, look at the resale value of a Harley compared to any import, Harleys are always higher, that shows that the Harley is a better bike.

  • That Harley got owned!

  • Which Harley was that?

  • morons without helmet.

Ever seen splattered face of somebody who just touched the tarmac?

It looks like spaghetti with burned edges.

The skin really melts because of the heat.

  • Forget helmets, your much more likely to drop a bike than to get thrown from it. Did you see dumbass fatboy #2 wearing the white sneakers? LOL

  • @Maxipad44142

    Same thing...

I use Daytona's which are pretty expensive...

but the cost is worth it because hitting your foot to anything with regular shoes just pretty fucking hurt a lot!

  • @v1nnie0012 You gonna tiptoe through life to end up safe @ deaths door? I'm coming in sideways all fucked up with burnt flesh cuts and scrapes yelling "that was a fucking ride!"

  • Comment removed

  • nutin like that V-4 sound!!!!

  • Magna's never run out of throttle. The higher you go the more they like it. The magic starts at about 8K

  • I used to eat Harleys all day on my v65 and most of the sport bikes too. No kidding! Fastest bike i had ever ridden!

  • l'll never forget on mine passing a trans am (78 6.6) hitting the horn button going around it and by the time it honked i was past the T/A running about 160...

  • bring that hardly down here will let you see what a v65 sabre will do for him

  • there is no way a harley would keep up or get a jump in any gear with a v65.. fastest bike ive ridden :)

  • A Harley will always get the jump..more torque. But I have never lost a race one.

    1986 Honda V65 Magna

  • lol yea know if u look really really close i think just maybe the harley was riding a wheelie, or maybe it was the shocks just extending lol never know.......

  • Pretty good race until 3rd gear... Thumper actually pulled on him in 1st and 2nd gear... then he rode off

  • rider error.

  • A harley wouldn't stand a chance in hell.
