  • Does anyone know where this clip came from? I would love to find the source to use it in a video.

  • Wonderful !!

  • I love this type of music , when ever i listen to it , i feel like there's nothing wrong with the world . It's absolutely woderful !!

  • A real treat to see the originator of a famous, iconic solo, one that has become a standard, on video. Very historic! Now if we could only see and hear King Oliver's solo on Dippermouth Blues...and Bix on Singin' the Blues...and ....Louis on West End Blues...

  • cris barbers clarinett player rules this solo biches.....

  • I was in Alphonse Picou's daughter's bar back in 1956 and saw Alfonse. He was playing the same old horn, a soprano sax I think.

  • An honour to listen Nick Walsall

  • Estupenda grabación, muchas gracias por compartirla.

  • That's one wicked Bb clari.

  • I think it is a Bb but he has made his own bell to make it easier for him to hear himself

  • what kind of clarinet is that? I thought it was a soprano Bb, but then I saw the curved bell, is it an Alto Eb?

  • Grand.Standard.TY

  • Once again, music from my childhood---probably music from my PARENTS' childhood as well. My aunt Olive May was quite a society "grande dame" and whenever she entered a room where the band was playing, they would STOP whatever they were doing and start playing High Society. It hardly gets better than this tune.

  • It was 1958

  • This is my GreatGrand Father! Wow, thanks for posting this. I've only seen still photo's until now. Very cool.

  • Bravo old boy :-) in a age of 81

  • awesome! this is my wife's great grandfather

  • Yes, he definitely nails it. Thanks for the rare treat. Never heard of Alphonse Picou before, I'm glad I did now.

  • wow, this is my great uncle !

  • Woah! the lick from 1:29 was used all the time by charlie parker. It's so interesting to study the origin and history of melodic lines

  • He was born in 1878, so he was 81 when this was filmed and seems to be quite fit. Thanks for posting.

  • This solo came to be played by just about all of the New Orleans clarinettists, but no one ever played it quite like Picou with that beautiful delicate, archaic quality. Thanks for posting this.
