the political imagery is to make people talk/debate. it works. .you don't actually think sioxi was a Nazi, do you ?. perhaps it goes over some peoples heads
I think it was less to encourage "debate" and more to go for a kneejerk shock reaction without much concern for how deeply disturbing this sort of imagery was for some people. This was only thirty years after Auschwitz and there was no lack of public awareness about the Nazis - every second film and children`s comic was full of Nazis for God`s sake. I don`t think that these punks were Nazis but I think they were happy to use Nazi imagery for shock value without caring who it offended.
they are the best. the other 2 are just overrated, & these new so-called punk bands are, just like the other person below pointed out, pop-punk excuses.
WTF? How can you even say that about The Clash, i mean The Damned Are A kick Ass Band , but you should never diss The Clash kid never. the revolution rock
joe strummer and almost every band members were total assholes, i've seen joe strummer's t-shirt with "brigade rose" written on it, i'm italian and brigate rosse wer communist assholes makng "justice" by themselves, and by the way it was written wrongly.this shows us how politically ingenuous they were.let me take a piece of the song punk is dead from crass:
This band is awesome =D I just tried to listen to the new so called punk (which is pop actually I found out) and wow... I found punkrock died in the 80s T_T well The Damned still play =P and they still owned but I still love all their old stuff
Some bands like Rancid and the Dwarves carry the torch IMO (or DID into the 90's).. Operation Ivy? Very different but I must say, there are always bands that will supprise you. Punks not dead! *ahem*.
Brilliant - takes me back to my youth! The audience look like a bunch of freaked out geeks... how the fcuk can you sit absolutely still while the Damned play?
The thing I love about punk and what gives it its edge is the ambiguity. Was it a threat to society? Or just a bunch of lads (and gals) having a good laugh together. I don't think anyone ever really knew (including the participants)

Ahhhh... One of the Classics.
Love the way Rat Scabies held one arm up in the air while pretending to drum. They were definitely having a real larf.
I'd like to laugh at the audience as well, but I probably looked like that then too.

causeofmyanger 3 years ago
The first two Clash albums had good songs.
The first couple of singles were good.
By 1979 it was over. Go and listen to your
Sandinista, Combat Rock and other crap they put out. It was
a good visiual image they had. Basicly a bunch
of wannabe Rockstars(Mick Jones), Reggae Fans
(Paul S.). Even in 1981 the Damned were
writing Songs as "Ignite". Recording Garage
Rock in 1984 as N. Nomad. They are still cool at their age now, while Joe Strummer played so called "World Music" with Mescaleros
