Rolf van Os in BMW 320 STW

I know this is probably a stupid question, but, is it just the turbos making the whine? I ask because the whine is ever increasing throughout all the up shifts and decreasing constantly on down shifts. I am assuming it is not the engine rpms.

@buteaux34 Read some of the comments under the video. The car has no turbos, it's a NA engine. The noise that's making is the sequential gearbox with straght cut gears. Someone made a good comment: it's like driving your car in reverse the whole time (normal cars usually have straight cut gears for reverse. Don't know why).

@Nixxomatic It's cheaper and easiere to avoid having to helical cut the reverse, and leaves you without the need to add a syncro mesh ring to it aswell. Ford's MTX75 have it for an example.(syncromesh'd reverse

The gears are spur gears or "straight cut" gears. In a normal streetcar gearbox only reverse gear is cut like this. That's why your car sounds ALMOST like this when your reverse.

No 318 is engine its a 320 24v made by carly motors in The Netherlands, 290hp no motorsport engine
