  • Fabulous! Love the music!

  • 1973 was the greatest Belmont race I have ever seen. Hopefully this year we will have another triple crown winner to break the streak.

  • This horse is unbelievable! I live in Ireland and there was horse called Sea The Stars and he was winning every Group 1 he entered. His last race was the The Arc in France and the commentator said before he won the race"Perfection in equine form, a horse of a lifetime".I thought it was a brilliant analysis of the horse's racing career. I think it should apply to this horse. A true champion with a will to win that i have never seen before and i honestly think that we will never see da likes again

  • Thank you for a wonderful video. Secretariat had true star quality, a true legend, in the UK Redrum inspires similar feelings.

  • I am so saddened to learn of even some of Secretariat's descendants are rescue horses. It is also so sad that the fastest horse in recoded history could not outrun the condition of his hooves that brought about his demise. No matter how many times I see him win the races, I get tears in my eyes. He truly had the heart of a champion.....and a passion to run.

  • Secretariat. The greatest horse in history. There may be another someday, but it is 2011 and no one has of yet been able to beat his times.

  • He was so gorgeous :'(

  • I hate the maudlin sappy music -- all the dead horses in the slaughterhouse don't get a musical score.

  • @HarnessExpert go hate sumwhere else lol expert <

  • GREAT VIDEO!!! Loved it...brought tears to my eyes with the music playing during his Belmont run. Still my favorite event in history! No human will ever match the "magic" of Secretariat...not to mention his supernatural performance during the Triple Crown races. Thank you for these great videos-)

  • beautiful song it does fit what is the name of it?

  • When I heard that Secretariat was 31 lengths ahead my heart just skipped a beat. Nobody can beat that record, well for now anyways. Hopefully Secretariat will stay the best for a long long time. OH! Team Secretariat right here *claps*

  • Talk about the genetic lottery. What a horse. We have one of his grandsons at my barn. He's never raced, but he definitely is part of the legend. He even has the same blaze and socks.

  • The roar of the crowd must have been so great--you probably couldn't have heard yourself think!

  • Ali lied. He wasn't the greatest, Secretariat was. He started out behind and started picking everybody off like a lone sniper.

  • good to watch beginning of video, Wood Memorial. All you have to do is watch Secretariat and it is, at least to me, clear that he was in pain fm the quarter size puss oozing blue abscess under his rt upper lip that was rubbing against the metal bit. He's just lumbering sluggishly along. When Turcotte learned about it it was clear to him why S didn't fire. He was happyto KNOW but haunted to realize pain he was causing tight reigning him, wld've loose reined him and thought he'd still win.

  • I stumbled across this, how artfully done!

  • Sham would have destroyed many triple crown winners (in my humble opinion and that of many others I think)...and that is just one more perspective on why Secretariat is the greatest that ever ran on a race track.

  • Apart from the numbers (ever faster quarters in the Derby, obliterating the world record over 1 1/2 miles, 31-length win in New York, etc.), there is also the DRAMA of his Triple Crown wins. Like the many peaks in Muhammad Ali's career, each of Secretariat's victories were so very different: Come-from-behind at Churchill Downs, chase down the lead on the first turn at Pimlico, and bring-them-to-tears-divine at Belmont.

And his smarts: He took the broom from the groom and swept the stable!

  • You wax poet. Perfect summary of a perfect career. Along with Secretariat's videos, I also watch, time and again, Ali in his prime. Ali vs. Williams. Secretariat alone in the Belmont. Two athletes who competed for the privilege of competing and just loved what they did. Ali loved to fight (see Ali vs. Williams, Ali's perfect fight); Secretariat loved to run (the Belmont). Thank God Secretariat went out a winner in Canada. Never met either but I will see them both on the other side.

  • I am not sure I really care who was the greatest or what, but watching this makes me get a lump in my throat every single time.

  • 2:24 nough said!

  • What is the music? It is great!

  • Yes indeed, what is this music? Absolutely fitting!

  • Comment removed

  • Secretariat ran a 2:24 on dirt in that Belmont Stakes a record that still stands today as a world record on dirt. No other horse has even broken 2:25 on dirt over a mile and a half since before or after 1973. In other words Secretariat is the all time greatest thoroughbred on the flat by some distance.

  • Secretariat's son Kingston Rule STILL holds the race record and national record in Australia for the 2 miles in the 'race that stops the nation' The Melbourne Cup. Almost everyone in Australia stops for this race by the way even though it is run on a Tuesday. Workplaces have luncheons and let the staff watch the race across the country so it is a big thing and 'Big Reds' son's record still stands from 1990.

  • The point you raise about him being only a 3 year old.... Honestly I don't need to say anything else.

  • What? You mean some do not know that a horse is at his prime at 3 years old? LOL!

  • Secretariats heart was 3 and a half times larger than an average horse. He had a VERY BIG engine.

  • A world record that no horse has come within a whole second of since 1973. Secretariats heart was the key to his record. It was HUGE!

  • This is rare gold. A seriously great youtube clip.

  • Always good work, Kierk...but I like this verse better...

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Jeremiah 33:3

  • This is why I subscribe to your channel Kierkegaard. 5 stars....

  • Thank you Kier...somehow when you watch these it makes EVERYTHING possible...

    Brilliantly done..!!!!!

  • This is absolutely brilliant!

  • You truly have a talent Kierkegaard...your videos never fail to move me to tears...God bless you for giving all us Secretariat fans such good stuff!

  • Ok..thanx for getting me all teary eyed. LoL. You are right about the music..its perfect. Most of all my dear, thank you for it. I absolutely love it!! It means more than you know!

  • You are absolutely the greatest Secretariat tribute maker of all time. Every video you've made has blown me away, EXCELLENT job!

    Five stars.

  • Thanks fo watching sugarpuppy137. The videos are all the horses, not me. I am just a vessel they use to tell their story

  • @Kierkegaard73 But they need a true poet to bring us to tears; I thank for that!

  • Finally! I have been waiting for a new one! :D

  • Thanks Carly, I love your work btw.

  • Thank you!

Do you get all your videos from ESPN Classic?

  • Some, I get them from various sources. This was something I had sitting around for awhile and the footage is entirely from ESPN

  • I very much appreciate you sharing these videos with us. I sorely needed a pick-me-up.

    Thank you, sir.
