What you bought, I suspect, is very hot 9mm smg ammo with really hard primers. Western Europe was never short of such weapons. Extensive shooting of that stuff will shorten the service lives of your handguns, but then, you would already know that.
Those are definitely not for extensive shooting, the unreliable primers alone would make that seem like a bad idea. I got that batch for cheap and it was more of a just-for-fun experiment, to see how such old ammo would perform.
No, you don't have to. Some grips and some calibers are more comfortable to shoot with gloves but they normally do not affect the shooting performance. Safety glasses are more relevant, which I occasionally forget to take with me...
@Cytacon Specially when firing old ammo. I fired some old Russian 7.62X54R one time and cleared the round, only to have it explode near me 20 secs later.
Ive got a couple vids up shooting 25+yr old Israeli 9mm ammo. Looks like yours fared a little better then mine. I liked the unkown part of shooting it, gave me some good failure to fire drills.
Yes, that's what I like about it, it's good practice. I also like the idea of putting rounds through my firearm that were made so long ago and still work, for the most part.
I liked the Killer Instinct music. This reminds me of some old 8mm Mauser ammo I was shooting a while back. Probably 65% or so were duds, and another 10% had delayed ignition. Needless to say, we stopped shooting it. What kind of price did you get on that 9mm btw?
I just saw that I was mistaken about the price... I actually got the ammo for 1.25 kr per round, that is 20 cents. If including the shipping, the price was 26 cents per round.
At home. Most of the time I'm forgetting one thing or the other, no matter how hard I try to remember putting everything into the bag. And this time it was the glasses...
hey mate. i seen that when the rounds did not go off you extracted and picked up the round. you should never do that the round can still go off. iv seen it at the range once it was a 9mm around 15 seconds after the primer was hit it went off. no one was hurt we lurn to leave to rounds in for 20 seconds then extract and face the projectile down range
Yes, I'm aware of that. Through the competitions I developed the habit to clear malfunctions as fast as possible, but you're right in pointing out the risk.
I see. I'm so used to the tendency that teaching how to ride a bike is a mandatory part of child rearing, at least in Europe. On the other hand, in the US driving a car seems to be much more usual and self-evident than even walking.
@SkallagrimNilsson I didn't learn to ride a bike because I had an alcoholic father. He couldn't deal with training a child to do anything. Too much stress. In the US, bike riding is part of every child's life. I am an exception in that regard, here as well.
I didn't get my driver's license until I was 36. I walked a lot.
Ah, ok, I was under a false impression then. I kept hearing (or rather reading) about the lack of bikeways and the messed up traffic structure which makes going by car easier than by foot.
I guess it depends a lot on the individual city, doesn't it?
damn that Ammo works pretty good for being 57 years old! did you think it would miss fire a lot more then that, due to being an old Ammunition? because i did, nice video man : }
Dude,,,You would love my home town of Roswell NM We have hundreds of box canyons on public land you can go to and be completly isolated and shoot all day,or camp out and shoot all week if you like and never see another person.Its great!
Very cool video. I love the first person shots...that'd look killer with some Hi-Viz or tritium sights. Anyway, I got a hold of some WW2 German 9mm last summer and put a bunch through my Glock 17 and AR15 in 9mm. Not a single primer failure. Them Germans knew how to make ammunition! I'll give 'em that.
hey skall, not trying to be a "safety sally" but i have heard that you should wait 30 secs to eject the round after a failure to fire because there could be a delayed reaction. I am sure you know what you're doing but i wouldn't want you to get hurt. I just heard that recently, but in the past i have immediately ejected the round as well.
Yes, that is correct. In theory there is a very small chance of delayed fire, so waiting is actually safer. However, I don't do it regularly because that would lead to the habit of doing it every time, automatically. In a competition or self-defense situation (though highly unlikely here) such a habit costs precious time.

Personally I would wait a few seconds before clearing dud rounds. A hangfire round going off during or after ejection could ruin your day bro.

A car sure is comfortable, but damn expensive and not exactly environmental-friendly. Yes, I admit, money is the more decisive factor of the two...
But you're kidding me, right? About not knowing how to ride a bike?
I know, no need to rub it in. ;-p

Does the police come to your house to inspect that you lock up your guns? And do you have to participate in competition to keep your hand guns?
unknown1730 1 year ago
@unknown1730
They can, but they rarely do so. It has not happened so far.
In order to keep them it's sufficient to be member in a shooting club. If I want to buy a new one I do indeed have to participate in competition.
