I have been looking for this show for so long that it's ridiculous but not as ridiculous as the tears I have in my eyes right now. Great childhood memories from this, thanks
One of the best kids shows ever! I have probably seen every episode of this ever made. I loved the giant Record that would tap the wooden spoons together.
Haha! This show rocked my world growing up. Sadly, it would never be permitted in today's politically correct world. "God made just one of you" would never make it through, especially in Canada.
@JewelBlueIbanez it would never make it in today's world where kids have more than 2 channels to choose from. Even back then, going outside or eating vegetables was better than watching this show.
I always remember a song I learnt on here..."I am a brave musician, I practice everyday, people come from miles around just to hear me play...my piccolo my piccolo the love to hear my piccolo..tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet" lmfao...
oh my god. i remember getting babysat at ths ladies house and her two kids would watch this show anbd i hated the fuck out of it. that lady would drive me crazy wit her calm, pleasant voice and demeanor. and then the'd do that spoon tapping thing and these kids would get. spoons. and bang them together... but now it kinda fills my heart with joy to hear it. this theme. the terror is replaced with joy. cus being a kid was wicked. biggest worry being a ladies calm voice. good grief.
Oliver Sudden... Aka Jonh Lumby.... Aka Coach Lumby... He is the offensive coordinator of the high school football team i play for. St Paul Lions... Pretty hilarious to see him young! I srsly ROFLMAO'D!
I'm sorry to read of your pain. I too was bullied growing up because I was smaller than the other kids so I can sort of know your pain. This show was very good for children it reinforced for them the joy of being who you are and liking who you are. I tear up every time I hear this opening. They're a very special family who have left a significant mark on the Canadian cultural landscape.
To answer elljec, pretty well the whole show was done by the Lumby family from Saskatoon. They have moved to Ontario quite a while ago. Oliver (John Lumby jr.) went on to work on the Red Green show and is now a radio personality. They did clips for Size Small Island up at Nemieben Lake.
I remember watching this Size Small as a kid. I liked it a little, but not as much as other Canadian kids shows like Today's Special, Mr.DressUp, Join-In, etc.
I loved this show. It was a guilty pleasure I would watch in my junior high years on summer vacation. It's so soothing. It takes me to my happy place. I remember the gramma with her lisp...sweet size small! If there was a collection of them put together I would totally buy it. For my own children of course...not for me when I need to escape. Never.
Haha, what's his name, the puppet on the left(gotta consult the tape again(yes I have a cassette tape) of what his name is), sounds like a kid you save in the recently released Castlevania Order of Eccelsia.
I never considered posting anything on youtube, mainly because I wasn't prepared to actually share anything like this. On the other hand, this series is dorky enough that it does need to be archived. You see, I have a strange passion for collecting children's audio tapes. So far I've got a bunch of Sharon Lois and Bram tapes, a tape with Bob from Sesame Street, one Size Small tape, a rare Smurfs tape(before the Smurfs became popular), a few Mini-pops tapes, a Raffi somewhere, and some others.
WOW, what a nostalgic trip this was. I had remembered the show but forgotten the intro, but after hearing the first 5 seconds it all flooded back. Thanks for sharing!
This theme song is so well written. Perfect melody, nice guitar strumming and great harmonym great lyrics even for a pre-school show. I wish I wrote this!
The whole Lumby family was involved with this show. Jeff Lumby went on to play Winston Rothschild III (owner-operator of Rothschild Sucking Services), on "The Red Green Show".
I remember watching this show too in all its incarnations (the original, SS Country and SS Island). Jeff also did voices for the English dub of Sailor Moon, he was Nephlite in the first season and Dr. Tomoe in the S series
Now isn't that a co-incidence that Jeff Lumby *and* Lisa Lumby-Richards were involved in two of my favourite shows growing up—Size Small and Sailor Moon. Too bad Helen Lumby and John Lumby Jr. didn't also provide voices for some of the characters in Sailor Moon; I wish they did, then it would have been a full family affair. :)
Jeff voiced Misha (the figure skater Lita/Jupiter had a crush on) in episode 35, he was also Dr. Tomoe (Hotaru/Saturn's father) in the S season and Kakeru in the S movie
would you be able to upload a full episode of this? the nostalgia i felt from just watching this short intro has put the biggest smile on my face. thanks!
I would LOVE to see re-runs of this on TV somewhere. I may be 26 years old, but I'd still sit and watch it. This show was a HUGE part of my childhood, along with Size Small Country and Size Small Island.
I spent many a afternoons watching this show. Grandma Gussie was my favorite!

They aired this show in the Bay Area during the early-mid eighties. My second born son LOVED this program when he was two.

Produced in Saskatoon for Canwest, even before their Saskatchewan stations were on the air. (Miss Helen Lumby hosted the STV launch program in 1987.)
By any chance do you have the closing credits? I remember them using a piece of production music that I liked, and would like to hear again.
