This is one of the best science shows ever made. I love all the new genetic knowledge we have. After watching this, it seems to me that we could possibly turn birds into dinosaurs, since they evolved from dinosaurs and must still retain many or possibly ALL of the prehistoric genes that were in dinosaurs. I would also love to see superhumans be engineered. I totally condemn religion. All religions are laughable and awfully STUPID!!!

OK, I understand if I get hit in the head with a hammer and then generations after me get hit in the head with a hammer, "something tells my DNA that I might need a stronger skull so I can survive the hits to the head...That "something" my be the felling of the hammer against my head... But how is it that the mouse or more specifically its DNA knows that it need a darker fur to survive. How and what tells the mouse's DNA that the fella needs a darker fur

@granite230 Omg that's not how it works. It doesn't "know" anything. Traits that benefit the plant's or animals survival are passed on (Because the survivors live to reproduce), whereas the traits that doesn't help survival do not make it because these animals and plants did not live to reproduce.

@granite230 @granite230 An organism doesn't change at will. They are what they are (genetically) and they will stay that the rest of their lives. But if an organism has a beneficial mutation in a gene, that gene will naturally spread trough the gene pool (breeding population). After a long time the mutated gene becomes the norm, and the species is a bit better adapted to its environment.

Basically what drives evolution is natural variation and the non-random reproduction success of organisms.

@EAAC1 some mice have light fur, some have dark fur. If all the ones with light fur die, the darker fur animals 'know' they were right and there DNA is passed on.

As an evolutionary bio-geneticist for 20 years I have been trying to prove process through simulated un-guided natural events. Along comes evo-devo and sets all our work back decades. Natural evolutionary biologists are seriously under funded with all the new grants going to evo. threatening to end any real scientific discoveries. We can prove all sorts of molecular manipulation under extremely sophisticated lab conditions with the greatest minds on earth. Hello ID.

I am not sure what your problem is - after all evolutionary biology in its "pure" form has been around for 150 years. And if filed evolutionary biology could not answer the exact molecular mechanisms of what happened during evolution - or even how modern biodiversity is generated - it is time for a new approach. Do you really think nuclear physics set back "pure" Newtonian physics as well?
