Snobby shortsight, Spike. Tyler uses community and colloquil flare ("down home") to snag the viewer into his precious and heart-felt moral and spiritual feelings about life. Folks, don't look to Spike for your Black Basis. Look to your inner nature of humor in the face of strife and see that Tyler is just tickling that part of your soul that God gave you to cope with life's hardest moments. Community, family, fun and frolic: Go Tyler.

I don't know anything about any of the people you were talking about, but I agree with you about "black entertainment." Paramore and taylor swift will get played but alot of country stars wouldn't, why u think their's country music channel?
Plus the choices of channels, filters out music & artists so listeners/viewers can go directly to what they like or prefer more. Other than choice & balance for everyone to get their shine, it doesn't make sense for mtv and bet. Anyways whatever bet and mtv has been on alot of bullshit, their's no more rap city on bet and the only time you view music vids on mtv is at 3a.m. in the morning, it's all about dumbass reality shows with the same elements - sex, drama, alcohol, more drama, sex. Wow! This is exactly what I was trying say in my video. Blacks need to have a more polytheistic view of ourselves. I personally think part of the downfall of black people is that we have to walk some imaginary "black tight-rope" in order to stay black and not be a "sell-out" or be called "white". It makes me sick and I go through it everyday. Good video.
I agree with the things you said. Black folk do need to expand their interests. I am a black woman myself and I try to explore other cultures and experience new things...others should try it. It's fun :-)
Spike Lee is mad cuz he hasnt made 2 decent movie or a DOLLAR in a while...i meaan...its a shame when your movies dont go str8 to DVD but str8 to BET.....and WHO WATCHES BET?..i sure dont....
You brung up a good point about the Anime. I love anime and everything about it. And when I look at it on tv or talk about it to some one, they give me a weird look, call me weird or even GAY for viewing anime.
I don't know what it is. Especially when I bring up rock groups like Staind or Skillet, and such, everybody calls me a devil worshiper, because "White People Rock" music worships the devil.
I think that Tyler Perry is gifted in his own right. Spike Lee should just celebrate the difference in their styles instead of just being unprofessional and belittling him...I guess that would be too much like right though. Moreover, Spike Lee's filmmaking and producing days have sort of past and gone anyways.
structure and concept then its not comedy its more of exploxtation one thing about tyler perry's films I would never get that his characters are never changing and his audience I have to say appeals to the lower demographic interms of dialouge and thats the uneducated black folks of America. Now to Tyler's credit he did make why did I get married but if he claims that he's not working underhollywood and he owns his own shit then why continue to make those movies?
Well as much as I think spike is an egotiscal outdated manic I think he's right about tyler perry producing amos and andy type telivision. I watched the 60 minute interview and I think he got a whole lot of other serious problems that he needs a therapist but I digress. He said he used the medea movie as bait to get his audience to see his more serious films I get that but when you make madea 2 and 3 with jsut escalating baffoonery and you have the browns and tyler house of pain with the same
Black people who like Anime are different... Just like white people who like anime are different. Anime lovers are like die hard comic book fans, or computer geeks. Each genre deviates from the norm. But I agree with you on the not focusing on one thing. Many people in black america want to silence the voice that is ghetto black america and mark it as an embarrassment, but until when we stop allowing ourselves to be clumped together, we will always have a washed perception of what is beautiful.
I don't like Madea movies nor the meet the browns or house of payne, i don't know any of them nor would i associate with people who act ignornorate as such, plus the acting sucks
I KNOW! They cant act at all. I so agree with you. I'm sorry but shows like house of payne and meet the browns is so damm corny that its not even funny. Everything they talk about in those shows just isn't even funny. I tried so hard most of the time to listen and watch some episodes but they aren't even funny. Plus I think Tyler Perry gives black people a bad name most of the time with his movies and shows steriotyping them...
You're right. I was doing it here, and I caught on afterwards. I understand that we are a diverse group of people with different tastes, but the monolithic group thing comes into play when a black person DOES like something different and the rest of the people that he knows think that it's weird.
I get what your saying. Like one of my cousins don't play basketball cause that's not what he's intrested in, instead he's into art and painting.... but his dad wants him to play basketball. I swear that pisses me off about older black people the most. His dad wants him to do what he thinks black people are supposed to like. How ignorant!
Right -- black people are too escapist and popular "entertainment" shows this and encourages it. I'm not so much concerned about the "image" problem as I am about the "escapist" tendency -- which will really get black people nowhere.
And after Dorrian Albert's death in Chicago, black people should think long and hard about how black "entertainment" glorifies violence.
It's not "entertainment" -- it's really brainwashing.
Look up the history of Spike Lee's movies, watch them and you will see why. Its not jealousy. A lot of Black people aren't awakened to the fact that the media keeps stereotyping Black people..and Tyler Perry is feeding the stereotypes!! There used to be a time where we had shows like "A Different World" and "The Cosby Show" where they did not stereotype Blacks...now Black people don't 'own' decent roles anymore...it takes STEREOTYPES to sell nowadays and its disturbing.

It's ridiculous.

TheRealAshland 2 years ago
I KNOW! They cant act at all. I so agree with you. I'm sorry but shows like house of payne and meet the browns is so damm corny that its not even funny. Everything they talk about in those shows just isn't even funny. I tried so hard most of the time to listen and watch some episodes but they aren't even funny. Plus I think Tyler Perry gives black people a bad name most of the time with his movies and shows steriotyping them...

i hate how black people continually talk about black people like they are a monolithic group.... oh snap!
RenegadePogo 2 years ago
