"I also cried because they said that Elder Pieper was coming into the country, and we needed to find a way to get him on the base. I just thought, 'How am I going to have any influence on this?'"
In that moment, Hollingsworth said he felt like Nephi with a broken bow and no knowledge of where to hunt.
If you immediately got an answer to every question you asked, you would turn out to have no character. ... By working hard, you grow. ... The Savior loves you. He will guide you. But He will have you work for it."
When asked what he would most like to tell the young single adults, Elder Scott answered, "That the Savior loves you. He knows all of your challenges and He knows the answers. But you're going to need to work to get the answer because He wants you to grow.
THEBACKYARDPROFESSOR Shirts video set on Egyptian/Hebrew was very good as well, even tho it doesn't get down to business till the 3rd video in the set.
Thanks FAIR for clearing up the distorted views of critics of the Church of Jesus Christ or as heathens call us, Mormons.
And I just uploaded a newer video called "More Proof for reformed Egyptian" wherein I literally and physically SHOW the examples. Every single "caractor" on the Anthon Transcript has counterparts in the ancient world as Crowley showed back in 1942. I show his parallels as well. Posted Feb. 10, 2010.
Thomas Young, a contender for the honor, published "An Account of Some Recent Discoveries in Hieroglyphical Literature, and Egyptian Antiquities. Including the Author's Original Alphabet, As Extended by Mr. Champollion, with a Translation of Five Unpublished Greek and Egyptian Manuscripts. . ." (London, 1823). F. J. Chabas, the eminent Egyptologist, declared in 1867 that Young's phonetic approach to the study of hieroglyphs had been the "Fiat Lux" of that science. (London, 1855), pp. 258-344.
I would think that America's premiere linguist, Charles Anthon would have read this book as a College Professor trying to keep up and be the top of his field.
How do you explain Joeseph Smith History 1:64? In this passage, Smith shows Anthon some of the characters Smith had been translating. Initially Anthon verified that Smith's translation was correct. Now, I have often wondered how he could have verified the translation in the 1820s if it had been regular Egyptian. Now you tell me that reformed Egyptian was really different from regular Egyptian. That further complicates things.
"64 I went to the city of New York, and presented the characters which had been translated, with the translation thereof, to Professor Charles Anthon, a gentleman celebrated for his literary attainments. Professor Anthon stated that the translation was correct,
more so than any he had before seen translated from the Egyptian. I then showed him those which were not yet translated, and he said that they were Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic; and he said they were true characters.
He gave me a certificate, certifying to the people of Palmyra that they were true characters, and that the translation of such of them as had been translated was also correct. I took the certificate and put it into my pocket, and was just leaving the house, when Mr. Anthon called me back, and asked me how the young man found out that there were gold plates in the place where he found them. I answered that an angel of God had revealed it unto him. "
Champollion was only beginning to translate the Rosetta Stone in France in the 1820s. Was there really any scholar in America who could have verified an Egyptian translation in the 1820s? Since the art of translating Egyptian was still in its infancy, any Egyptian derivative would have been even more difficult to read. Right?
At age thirteen, young Anthon had entered Columbia, ". . . where," according to the Dictionary of American Biography, "he was awarded so many distinctions that his name was withdrawn from competition
"In 1820 [at age 22!] he was chosen adjunct professor of Greek and Latin in Columbia College, and thus entered upon his life-work. While preparing for the bar he had adopted the habit, which he retained for many years, of rising at 4 a. m. and devoting the early hours of the morning to his literary labors.
However, through faith and many miracles, Hollingsworth was able to organize the first three branches of the church in Iraq.

since Egyptian characters are very distinctive, any derivative of such no matter the magnitude would be self evident.

Anthon was the best linguist in America at that time. I think the key phrase is
"more so than any he had before seen translated from the Egyptian"
