Even in spanish it sounds wonderful: El sol brilla en lo alto El sonido de las risas Aves deslizandose hacia abajo Sobre cruzes de viejas Iglesias grises Decimos estar enamorados Mientras secretamente deseamos que llueva Sorbiendo Coke y jugando juegos Septiembre esta de nuevo aqui! Septiembre esta de nuevo aqui.
This song is so beautifully breathtaking. Totally suits September. David Sylvian is a total genius. Heartbreaking song. One of the most underrated songwriters of our time. If you like this song, you should check out Fragile Bones (Feels Like Home) by Ali Murray, or anything by Ali Murray for that matter. Musically it's very different to this but it's still sad and dreamy and beautiful.
I will always try to understand his need for greed in the projection of thoughts regarding fulfillment and ambition and the desire to inspire in recent times but songs like 'September' and its ilk i.e (Orpheus, Nostalgia, Before the the bullfight, Darkest dreaming, Laughter and forgetting, Wave, Blackwater, Fire in the forest) will always be his legacy... Should have been seen as more of a forerunner in the the experimental brigade but alas was seen to be a pretty boy just pretending...
September is here again... September is here again...
I must have listened to this song about 100 times last Wednesday (the first of September), at home, in the car, on the tube, while walking and in bed. And at least twice a day since. Every year it's the same. This song means a lot to me, good and not so good things.
re: videocanone. Bryan Ferry once said that he should receive royalties from Japan because Sylvians singing style was so similar to his own - compare that humourless old sod 's output over the last 25 years with Sylvians and draw your own conclusions..... Anyway, I see your point but would rather hear one new track from Sylvian than an album of cover versions, leave that sort of thing to Mr Ferry
He has such a great voice, and I love his work, but it would be neat if he say did an album of classic cover tunes in this vein with this kind of orchestration. I can see him singing an old Sinatra cover like "In the wee hours" or something. That could be neat ! His voice is a natural over orchestration.
An incredibly healthy, warm minute & 14 seconds - for anybody. . .We should all play it at our places (offices or otherwise) of work -- right at mid-day - or- mid night! Cheers--
Check out some of Mark Hollis solo stuff or latter Talk Talk. Similiar mood also of an artist whose been given the keys to the kingdom and returned with Art.
I don't need David Sylvian to remind me, I just check on the calender towards the end of August. The song is melancholy, September's not that sad a time of year, I quite like the Autumn.
Hello! I m looking for the piano sheet for this amazing music, can you please help me to find it, or maybe if you have it to send me by mail. A lot of thanks!
Does anyone see the similarities between this track and "On Your Own Again", the first track (proper) from Scott Walker's Scott 4? Similar length, similar mood, similar structure, similar-ish subject matter at a stretch, similar sort of mood-setter, similar vocals.. I'd say it's maybe intentional, a slight reference or an homage or something.
I like your video and especially the black and white photos. They have a lot of power... I'm speechless - really. And the title is something very special for me. One word, but it has so much to say. But there is a feeling which makes me a little bit sad. I don't know why..
The beauty is in the brevity, like a haiku poem, tho' I confess to not little more about Haiku than it's brevity.
It's like savouring a morsel hoping that there will be more, but there isn't, so you have to work hard to absorb as much as possible in the short time you're exposed.
questo piccolo capolavoro lo ho scoperto oggi! Conocsco la canzone da un paio di anni, ma con questi immagini è più bella ancora. grazie accabadora ;-)
If David Sylvian was as famous as he should be then the world would have to be a more peaceful, less frenzied and non-commercial place. I'm irresistably drawn to his music and escape all that...yes, "sipping coke and playing games"! Thanks for posting.
Subtext, we say, but we're not sure, the rain is a kind of pathetic phallacy, boding ill, that perhaps we'd prefer something to come and destroy the illusory happiness. David says it much better than me.
Thanks for responding (& subscribing- and I like your Tom Waits, btw).
:) I think you mean fallacy (unless there's something phallic about rain). But--not to be too contentious--I mean to converse, not to dispute) isn't is a pathetic fallacy to project onto rain the idea that it destroys happiness? In other words, what makes you say that rain is not happy? True, it is associated with sadness traditionally; but that doesn't mean that that association is not a pathetic fallacy.
Yes atrocious spelling, it's in my nature. I think rain has a significant power to different cultures. In GB we moan about the weather, talk about it far too often, use it as an excuse for conversation or the lack of.
Also knowing Davids lyrics, they are dark in nature and he kind of slices open relationships with songs. I think he's using the rain to suggest that it will test a relationship or that he's hoping almost for the pain that comes with a separation. Secretly wishing.
I'm sorry--I shouldn't have made that ph/f correction; actually, that was my ("pathetic") attempt to make a joke--I'm often told to keep my day job when I do that.
To be honest, I've often misspelled that word myself. So, now that I think about it, I was probably projecting my own insecurity about spelling it wrongly onto your comment.
As you probably are aware by now, I analyze things waaay too much! Anyway, u r a good sport!
I studied in Hull & York - lots of rain! loved it though.
It's impossible to offend me, so no worries. You must have an impressive CV if your Facebook and Youtube are anything to go by. I bet you checked to see if Philip Larkin had left a pair of slippers under the counter at Hull University Library. I never went to Hull, though it was the birthplace of the first woman I ever truly fell in love with, but that's another story.
Nothing wrong with analysis unless you're one of my students. They must think I love the sound of my own voice.
